  • This video discusses series connections and connecting batteries in both series and parallel.
This video is for demonstration purposes only and not to be used as a definitive guide for those who are unfamiliar and inexperienced with connecting batteries.
Please seek assistance from an electrician or other appropriate licensed professional before connecting your batteries. Improperly connecting equipment to batteries is hazardous, can cause fires and may result in injury.

Very clear and simple explanation. One thing for people to keep in mind trying to increase voltage, anything connected to this system when doubling/tripling/etc, be sure the components connected are capable of handling the increase. Example: a lot of people running Power Wheels or similar Ride-on vehicles for kids...they'll drop an 18v tool battery or run a series of 12v7ah batteries like in this video, and they'll fry all the components either immediately or within days of use. Motors, ESCs, audio/lighting, etc are all set up for 12v WILL FRY and catch fire if you run even 16+V to them.

Great, simple, clear video. I was thinking that, while you were showing the voltage increase between two batteries compared to one, that using the term 'potential difference' instead of voltage would make a lot of sense because you can physically see that the potential has doubled when they are wired in series. I don't want to suggest there's a direct relationship between physical size and potential difference, but the additional terminology can be useful.

A better way to hook batteries in parallel.
Line up all the batteries and solder all the negative connectors together with a single black wire.
Then solder the negative end of a diode to each of the positive connectors. Then solder all the positive ends of the diodes together with a single red wire.
This protects all the batteries from being fed by any other battery. They feed and charge independent from each other.
This way is preferred as there always seems to be one battery with a bad or weak cell.
