I am lucky enough to be local to Beamish. It makes me so proud when I visit to see people learning about our local history. We often see coach trips from cruise ships visiting. I have family possessions that were donated to the museum in its founding years so it always holds a special place for me. Thank you for visiting and encouraging others to learn about my ancestors way of life
It’s a beautiful place!
Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
The first time I went to Beamish it was on a coach trip, I was 9 and I had been learning about WWII at school during the summer term so my mum thought it would be a great idea to have a history day at Beamish. It is still one of my favourite places, this and York Railway Museum. You are so lucky to live locally to the museum, I wish I was closer.
Nothing more heartwarming than beamish school trips. Best times ever and I hated school 😂
Just FYI, Beamish has been used for filming scenes in lots of films and TV series. Many of the Catherine Cookson episodes were filmed here too.
Thanks for sharing!
That explains why it looks so familiar, I was sure I hadn’t been, thank you!
@@tannysasmr well, when you think about it, it's the ideal place for filming. It's already like a film set.
The village was used in the filming in Downton Abby. The motor shop that Mary’s husband and Branson buy (where marry announces her pregnancy) was filmed in the mechanics shop.
It was used alot in Downton Abbey
Ahh, memories of Frys five centres. They used to do a bar with one orange, one mint ,one strawberry, one coconut and one raspberry segment in each bar which you can't get anymore
Amazing!!! It is so cool and fun to see the historic display of the times! I grew up in the USA Southwest and saw all of the old pioneer/western towns...But Nothing like Beamish! Best I have ever seen!!!!! Thank you for sharing such a fantastic place!!
That was a fantastic experience. Thanks for sharing this with us. Good commentary by the way ! More plz. 😊😊😊
Old Son! Just watched this Vlog. As usual it was entertaining. I've never been. However, from what I've seen, it reminds me of The Black County Living Museum, in part. Especially some of the buildings, the insides of the houses etc. Very similar. Hope to go up there soon, Old Son.
If you loved Beamish you have to go to St Fagans, it's the same sort of thing but Welsh history, it's really brilliant. It's near Cardiff and they actually take the original historical buildings and rebuild them in the outdoor museum piece by piece, with original fixtures and furniture. It's actually incredible the work they do saving these buildings. It's one of my most favourite places and it's huge with a castle and medieval church to name some of the buildings.
They do the same in beamish build the original buildings piece by piece
It's great to see you visit Beamish Museum, its local to me and I have paid many a visit here over the years as a child and adult, so many school trips, family days out and visits with my partner. We sometimes just go for a walk around and some sweet treats or fish and chips.
You've gone at the right time with the recent opening of the first section of the 1950's town.
I'd highly recommend returning at Christmas as it is wonderul!
Also my grandad has played the organ in the church several times over the years. 😊
Absolutely loved it here!
Omg, i remember going to Beamish as a child about 3 times, we used to go at christmas time and it was magical at night in the dark with all the lights and they had reindeer and you could see Santa and they also had an ice rink. The last time we went, it snowed and that was magical. My favourite part was the sweet shop where we always got cinder toffee and watched them making rubarb and custard. Glad you enjoyed it!!!
Shawn and Charlotte,
Absolutely wonderful place, a
real step into the past!
Cheers,
Rik
Beamish is more than a good day out , my first visit I spent half a day then came back for another 4 days seeing something different every day , then returning yearly and still seeing different things each year , it is continually evolving and changing
Love your history vlogs, this is a museum i have been wanting to visit for ages, so great to be able to get to see a vlog of it, it makes me more determined to do it.
Definitely do it Mary! Wonderful day out! But you’ll struggle to do it justice in a day!
We had such a great day!
Wow! Never hear of the place until now. Looked amazing! Cheers Shawn.
fab really enjoyed this blog we live very near Beamish but don't often go it was nice to see what is new keep up the good work
My favourite part of this place was always the sweet shops. I always loved seeing them pulling the old-school toffee on a hook!
Great Vlog as always Shawn and Charlotte
Really enjoyed this vlog will definitely be planning a trip back to beamish not been since school in the 90s and they’ve added lots more things. X
Always makes my day when I see either adventure Shawn or theme park worldwide uploads.🥰
Thanks Luke!
@@TheSanbrookeAdventures beamish is one of my favourite places to visit you can go as many times you can in 12 months
I love this place so much to see.remindse of York museums. Glad you both experienced xx
What a Fab Vlog.
I’d heard about this place a few years ago but completely forgot about it. I’m gonna look for local B&B’s and plan a trip. Nice One 👍🏻
Nice to watch this Shawn! And to know I met you in the metro centre the next day is awesome! I’ve just got back from filming videos on Poland and getting trains from city to city had the best time! Keep up the awesome videos Shawn!
That’s awesome and it was great to meet you!
@@TheSanbrookeAdventures it was my pleasure Shawn you and Charlotte where so lovely!
I adore this place!! I used to be a local and then I moved over 300 miles south :( However went up for a week and went back! It was amazing!
We love Beamish! We were one of your followers who recommended it to you!
We live 60 miles away and visit 5 or 6 times a year on our season ticket - amazing value.
We recommend the restaurant in the town. Their roast beef is amazing!
You really can’t do Beamish justice in a single day! But you did a great job! We like to chat to the knowledgeable staff and take our time soaking up the atmosphere! And eating and drinking!
I first went to Beamish with school in 1974 not long after it opened. Apart from the fact that there’s loads more, it also means that history is still current. Older people visiting in 1974 would actually have remembered the town era circa 1911. That is now the case of the new 1950s exhibit. And a 1980s exhibit is planned some time in the future…
Try visiting The National Coal Museum near Wakefield. You’ll love that too!!
We had such a fantastic time!
Love this Shawn. It's many years since I went to Beamish and won't be able to go again. Thank you.
We loved it!
Very cool tour S&C thanks for taking us along! We have outdoor Museum in my home state that my dad and I toured one time. But yours is much more massive! Of course our country is just a baby in comparison 😆😘p.s. you mentioned the bakery was actually baked goods how they used to be back in the day. But you didn't take us inside. Well I haven't finished watching yet maybe you have. Be interesting to see what is different. Would probably be really yummy because no processed food whatsoever would be in that yum yum
Thanks for watching!
Thanks both of you for this. Its a museum I have always wanted to go to and I cannot believe how cheap it is.
It’s fantastic and so much to see
What a great video. I have been to Beamish many times and always enjoyed it. I loved your commentary. I’ve now subscribed.👍
Thank you!
Great vlog Shawn and Charlotte. I’ve always wanted to visit this museum but have never got round to getting up to that part of the country. So nice to see all the vintage vehicles, buses, trams and trains. Love the layout as well including the beautiful old buildings and streets. A real step back in time almost like a time machine 👌😉
You want to try and go it’s a lovely day out
@@Michelle-qd9gm thanks I will
We had such a great time!
@@davidnm21 then go and see the angel of the north it’s not far from beamish
Excellent video - hope one day to go to the museum and thanks for your great videos
I love Beamish, it’s a great place. Glad you had a great time.
Aww this was amazing Thankyou so much for sharing this! Iv wanted to go here for a while now my parents live in Northumberland now so this is on my list to visit. I had no idea the place is so vast! Definitely needs a full day and maybe another visit to take everything in properly, I enjoyed watching this so much! I think I would be more starstruck with you both now than any other celebrities or film stars after watching all these videos of you this past week! 😂 your both so genuine with such a kind uplifting soul 😊❤❤xx
Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed this vlog, didn't even know this place existed. It looks amazing and so beautiful in parts. I love visiting the National Trust park around the UK but I think I will start looking for places like this. A great place to show my children, what life was like in the past plus the fish and chips looks so good and not bad for the money. Thank you both for showing us places like this 😍
It’s such a great place!
Its unbelievable
What a great vlog always wanted to go now after seeing this I will have to get there it looks fantastic
Thank you!
I love this place, I'm definitely going sometime, the old trams and buses are so beautiful, buildings too.
We live quite close and go often. Such a brilliant place. Feet are aching by the end tho lol. Glad you enjoyed your time in the NE guys
24:43 Love the vintage Shell Station sign from the early days.
Loving this vlog this place looks great reminds me of the black country museum in dudley xx
We loved it!
Brilliant stuff!
Very interesting shawn Charlotte gd to see u guys great vlog shawn
Went there a few weeks ago and loved going there! Hope to go back at some point. 😌
You should visit Blackpool zoo at some point!
I love Beamish. I did a placement there and did you know people who work there actually live inside the museum? Only a handful of people but it’s really cool.
It’s such a great place!
my family are local and been going there since i was a kid, well well worth the money for what you get and the staff are amazing
Bemish is unreal lovely place 50s village is so so good fish and chips are on point 👌
I’m pleased you went to Beamish Museum and it’s an interesting place to visit.
Yeah they run steam locos down to that station. I think its something like quarter of a mile of track, shuttle just with one coach when I visited.
Fantastic video of Beamish, my fav place to have a day out. I live 5 miles away and go at least once a month. I was just there on Wednesday and with it being -3 degrees there were no queue's anywhere and all the buildings had big roaring coal fires which was brilliant. 😀
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing, we went 3 years ago, interesting to see what's developing. It seems quite a bit busier now. It is a super day out.
Thanks for watching!
I love beamish I last visited back in 2016 but I will hopefully be going back sometime this year. I would also recommend visiting the Black Country living museum in Birmingham which is really good. Another great vlog 😁
It’ll be coming up! Thanks for watching!
Downtown Abbey was filmed here a few times were the car garage are. Glad you both enjoyed your experience. Me and my partner been many of times the ice buns are really nice 👌 🙂
We had a great time!
Interesting to see the saddle tank loco in the engine shed being for the Yates Duxbury paper works in Heap Bridge, Bury - I wondered what it was doing all the way up at Beamish, but looks like it's normally resident at the East Lancs Railway, but has been on loan to Beamish for a couple of years.
The whole place has a similar feel to the Black Country Museum in Dudley
Can’t believe you have never been to Beamish before, it’s probably the most visited tourist attraction in the North East of England !! Saying that I’ve not been myself in a long time, used to go on school trips here and been a few times with my parents
We had a great time, really enjoyed it!
I’ve been twice it’s amazing!! hope you both enjoyed it me & my family went last year and recently😊
Another great vlog shawn, next stop Blist hill another great living history museum
We’ll definitely have to check it out!
First rate and comprehensive blog. My daughter and I are up from London on 19/6/24 four days to Newcastle and to see Beamish two days . Time permitting its off to Durham.
Thank you
Wow what a really cool place really enjoyed that. 😆😁😄😄😄😃😄😁😁
Beamish is just absolutely amazing I live in Poole but go at least once a year, one of my favourite places!! 😍
Bless you both x
No way?! I work at beamish now wish I’d seen this sooner , the cinema and tavern are opening soon!
I've been enjoying your videos for years didn't realise I hadn't subscribed. Now I have. 🇬🇧💙
Thank you!
I loved coming here at a teenager thought it was so much fun, blists hill is also great.
Years since I went, I love the fact it has a masonic lodge. Very very very cool.
Hmm interesting. We have one nearby called Black Country Museum, which is mostly outdoors too. Shows old style buildings etc, they have a mine they take you down in tour groups etc. Have old fashioned trams too. You can pretend to go to school again, they do roleplay of you attending with a piece of slate and chalk to use to write on instead of pen and paper lol & the Bonus of the museum is there’s an actual fish and chip shop in the museum!
(Don’t think it’s anywhere near as big as Beamish, but it’s near where I live so I got to represent it).
Hi guys
Thanks for posting this. I’ve never been there
I feel it is very similar to Black Country Living Museum in Dudley but they appear to do more displays and yo can be a pupil in the classroom, unless you just didn't have chance to show these. Remember seeing Beamish in Downton Abbey.
Great video 👍
I love it there as I used to live not far from there and the little houses are the same as my grandparents used to live in 👍
A Rural Policeman Constable was assigned to a Village and a special house was provided for Lodging.
They tended to integrate better within the community and became trusted and popular.
Went there with my junior school back in the 80's changed a lot.
Some of the catherrine cookson films were filmed at Beamish. Its very similar to the black country museum and the iron bridge museum and the living museum in Yorkshire.
I love watching your channels, I would love to see you cover some heritage railways and trams.
Thank you! More on the way!
Maybe a steam railway after sik :) ?
In future if you have already got your yearly membership pass and pre booked your time slot there's a little green hut at bottom of entry path that will stop you having to que and go right threw building. Also the Christmas and Halloween events are amazing always a sell out.
Brilliant vlog
One of our favourite places. The harvest themed agricultural event is particularly good. You missed out on the trains though! The station does normally run a proper steam train. Puffing Billy is amazing. It's a replica of an original first generation locomotive and the brutal iron shod cart wheels are a real Grand National style rough ride! Lastly the chips are amazing because they are cooked in beef fat instead of vegetable oil.
Oh and you didn't mention it but all the buildings there either came with the site or have been rescued and transported there brick by brick!
We’ll definitely be back in the future!
It’s brilliant here, I went here in 2018! We stayed at the nearby Premiere inn and went here. I remember they sold us some Delicious Pineapple sweets 😁! We also got ‘Dab and chips’ Here Which is presumably a Jordy phrase (I don’t know cos I’m From Yorkshire) This place is amazing, it gives you a rough idea of what life was like in the olden days!
Love beamish I’m pleased you have finally been you missed the chip shop in the coal mining village at the beginning of the video lovely food in there, it was a good vlog but you did miss a few bits so you must come back and visit the rest
The other chippy was closed for refurbishment unfortunately! We’ll definitely be back in the future!
Would love to see this but it’s over a four hour drive from where I stay. Maybe one day. Thank you for the interesting video
You should try and get back up, there is loads of new bits to see now. Nearly all of 1950s section is open with the last bit opening soon.
Love beamish been going there for years, saying we live 30 minute drive away 😊
Seems pretty similar to the black country museum near Birmingham which I would recommend because they also have a fairground with lots of classic rides to try out as well
I love these vlogs so intresting and shows the history
Thank you!
I'm a costumed exhibit demonstrator at Blists Hill Victorian Town in Telford. Beamish is on my bucket list.
The Yorkshire Sculpture Park at Wakefield would be a good one to film that is outside but it also has an indoor section.
Also the classic fish and chips in news paper was my favourite too
So tasty!
I love beamish. Its great at Christmas and Halloween. My son treat me and his dad too afternoon tea there the yr before covid. I hope to get to do it again very soon.
Awesome it was
I love one word trade centre my favourite video
If you liked Beamish, you should definitely come to the Black Country Museum! It’s not far from you both and is an amazing day out. I’ve been there lots as I live near. Bits of Peaky Blinders was filmed there too, just incredible!!😊
They are both good, as is Blists Hill at Iron Bridge, but Beamish is on a totally different scale to BCLM. It's the Disney of UK living museums
I love beamish, I saw me on here and had no idea u were on the tram the same one as me
One of the best value days out you will ever have.Go and enjoy.👍
It’s epic!
Love beamish one of my favourite places to visit my son loves the old transport
34:06 😂😂 shawn!!!!
Shaun did you go into the sweet shop? Love going in and watching a demonstration. I've been to Beamish about 4 times. First time in the 1980s or early 90s and last time around 2016. It's one of my favourite museums just abit far from London. Never seen the vintage cars there maybe it was a special thing the day or weekend you went.
We did indeed!
Wow.
You guys should try visiting the Black Country museum near Dudley as well ! xx
Wow what a place glad you and Charlotte loved it. Nice to see Martin box 31 running well. Former Blackpool tram.
How was it riding on her. Still got the swing over seating. Very well preserved since it left it's home back in mid 2010s. Was Marton vanbac running also.
We had such a great day!
@@TheSanbrookeAdventures good to hear. How was the tram ride. Thought being a regular Blackpool visitor would recognise Marton 31 on the prom
excellent video Shawn and Charlotte from Beamish Museum in County Durham for our first ever visit! Beamish is a HUGE open-air living museum spread across a 350-acre site and features a variety of different buildings, equipment, and working vehicles! Join us for a full tour of Beamish including footage from on board the wonderful trams! We also enjoy fish & chips and much more as we experience this fantastic attraction for the first time! keep the good Adventure up on the channel both of you Shawn and Charlotte, I can't wait to see the next Adventure from some were.
Really is good to see places like this, displaying vintage buildings, transport and amusement park. Be good in my opinion if they added railway / heritage railway to circle entire site? Offering vintage various types of steam locos & coaches. Aswell a few stations? But who knows. Its like a theme park, but not. But yeah still a good place to go & see in person. Cheers. 😀👍
It’s got a station and a railway track
Shaun, I hope that this video may be an inspiration for some planco Beamish Park in the future
Beamish is great and as we live nearby we go often as they have various events throughout the year, as others have mentioned Christmas evenings are lovely. The area opposite where you bought dab and chips is being developed to include a 1950s Cinema, Toy Shop and Electrical Shop which should be completed next year, further details and images are on the Facebook page.
Thanks for sharing!
Should have filmed this in Black & White!
Always wanted to visit here love history. 😁👍
