I’m surprised the original Sims sold like fire and was still selling after the Sims 2 came out… Sims 3 was probably the best when it came to gameplay features and 4 for character creation, however I remember the Sims 2 Castaway for PS2 being my absolute favourite game. That was way ahead of its time!
The first Sims game I ever played was the original Sims on my mother's computer somewhere around 2008, not knowing a 2nd generation Sims game existed... Maybe they lacked marketing? I don't really explore the internet back then, i thought it was so complicated to use. Maybe people didn't get the Sims 2 because it was kind of graphic intensive for the computers back then, (i did play the sims 2 pets on the PSP tho, somewhere around 2011) My opinion is that the Sims 2 has the best details out of all of the Sims games I've played, developers really cared for the game that time, then the Sims 3 removed all of those to be replaced by the new features and things you couldn't do in the Sims 2 (or maybe they had different devs).

How come you included Seasons & Pets for TS2? Is it because almost everyone who bought the base game also bought those two packs? In that case, I would expect TS4 Seasons to pull similar numbers because it’s arguably the pack that impacts gameplay the most. I would be interested in seeing a similar breakdown with all the packs for all the Sims games.

Sims 2 is low here because they are not counting the EP in as well, since you can see sims 2 and sims 2 pets EP is on there, so combined it should be more than 10m
happy to see new horizons pass the sims 4, i love both franchises but the sims 4 has had too many problems. new horizons had some too but the game and nintendo are more deserving of it being higher.

I still don't understand how the Sims 4 did so well when it took massive steps back compared to the Sims 3: no create a style, nothing frigging matches, *no open world*, they make 3 packs for what would have been only 1 in the Sims 3 (looking at you Cats&dogs, My 1st Pet, and Horse Ranch), etc. Also that's a personnal thing that may not appl to everyone but I hate how there's so little traits and aspirations to choose and choose from., it feels harder to give a fully fleshed out personality to my sims when I'm so limited in my options. Sims 3 had so many traits to choose from, and you could have 5 iirc, plus a bonus one if you had Universtiy and reached a high enough level with a social group (geeks, popular or rebels), and there were *a lot* of different aspirations, too. Sims 4 was a disappointment in a lot of ways, and for me it brought a lot more disappointement than it brought good things (building is more fleshed out for example, though, again, decorating sucks cause nothing matches and create a style wasn't implemented).
Sims 2 is actually still a lot of people's favorite. But looking at the sales, it definitely undersold. I wish I could still find copies of it now. My second favorite in the series after 3.
