    This I must do, even if the relay shows no problems. Just to know that I have the option to replacing relay or bypassing to make it home. This upgrade is awesome. THANK YOU!

    I’ve been trying to figure this out for two years I was going off of a different wire for pin 86 That was hot in start and run and 85 which is the negative was just grounded to the metal on the car so the ground was always grounded therefore the fuel pump would stay on if you didn’t turn the key off I was afraid to let my daughter drive the car but not anymore thank you so much for this I read so many wiring diagrams and videos and research online for two years or more and could never figure out how to shut off the fuel pump after three seconds but now I got it thanks to you I didn’t know the PCM send out a negative ground that shuts on and off To switch the relay

    Thanks for taking time to make this video. I did this to mine, sure i had it fixed cause i jumped the grn yel wire to 12v and drove it home. Wire in a relay, and would not start. Cut hole in floor and check for 12v and gnd. Replace fuel pump. Runs now. No small task. Thank you again for this detailed information!!!

    Just want to say thank you so very much for such a fine video. I seriously thank you. This video saved me probably $900+ in repairs. There are other videos on the subject but yours was by far the most comprehensive, well presented and simple/straight forward video out there. This worked like a charm and cost me only $28 to fix my Lincoln Navigator. I now realize the first symptom was a faint electrical burn smell in the car. I smelled it for almost two weeks before my car finally stopped running. Other videos gave you the basic wiring principles on a relay but the great thing about yours is that your approach was to have the external relay working just like the original, internal relay. You ran the wires to and from the PCM so the PCM would send the signal to the relay and manage it just as intended. Also, thank you for adding that you have been running your vehicle for 5 years with this external relay. That gave me a great sense of security. Again, thanks for a great video and diagrams you presented.

    Thank you so much for this extremely well thought out and detailed video! You just helped me fix my son's truck and saved him the better part of $1,000! If anyone is worried don't be, it took me longer to gather the parts at the store and watch the video a few times (taking notes) than it did to do the repair. Great video and THANK YOU again!

    I did this repair last night on a 2003 Expedition with 210K miles on it. Running great now, no more codes and no more staling, thanks. A few suggestions: 1. provide an overview still picture with the clusters of plugs circled - I use the free photo editor Irfanview - PC only, not mac. Would be helpful to disconnect and label the plug / wires as #Step 1 - primary aka Trigger wires and Step #2 Secondary POS to feed fuel pump.

Now it's far easier to test this circuit if there are any fuel delivery issues in the future, and the fuel relay can be very easily change in the future ! (like it should have been from the factory). • @CarShopTalk
      @CarShopTalk  Před 11 měsíci

      You could just splice into them. My concern with that would be the fuel pump relays usually still work intermittently, so you have the potential for both relays and fuses powering the circuit. If there was a short, the circuit could be over loaded resulting in a potential fire

    One question: what am I seeing between the heatshrink tube and the wire when you cap the little ends sticking out of the harness(es)? Is it a glue or grease? Thanks!

    • @CarShopTalk
      @CarShopTalk  Před rokem

      That type of heat shrink has a glue on the inside that turns to liquid with heat. It sets back up as it cools. Helps to seal wiring repairs water tight. I’m sure it’s available from other places, but that came from Ford. They used to sell it in bulk packs, but I think that’s been discontinued. Now I think it’s only available from them in overpriced wiring repair kits like Motorcraft WT-56814.
