Idk if anyone has mentioned this about Kurt Russell in this movie yet, but the scene of the basketball shot clock... Kurt did it in the time for the rules and the full court shot... he did it in one take, no wires, cgi, or help. Kurt Russell is a bad ass.
Talking about how fit and ready Kurt was for the movie, I heard a story years ago, for which I have no proof for, but still like to believe. The wardrobe people were talking about how they needed Kurt in for fittings and measurements to recreate the old Snake costume. He told them something like, "No, it's ok. Kurt Russel made each and every one of those baskets. I do not remember where I heard this from, to be honest.
Here is some things you might not know about Cliff Robertson. "PT 109" was released while President Kennedy was in office & he personally chose Robertson to portray him. The PT boot was struck and sunk by a Japanese destroyer & had to take a long dangerous escape from the enemy. Kennedy's back was very badly injured & suffered pain from that for the rest of his life. It is a very interesting WW II film. Robertson was a good baddy in "Three Days of the Condor" opposite Robert Redford a great spy thriller.

They were made with so much love you can feel it in the movies. I've rewatched the classic b rated movies more than the blockbusters, they have great humor and are so filled with corny tough guy one-liners that make me smile from ear to ear😊
This movie was campy as hell and it's one of the reasons why I love this movie. Kurt Russell is my favorite current era actor. He's is the Clint Eastwood of our generation (even though Clint Eastwood has been around for a few generations). Love this movie! I saw it at the Drive-In Theater when it came out. I had beers, herb and nostalgia. One of the best nights ever. My ex was a little younger than me so she didn't understand my excitement. Plus, it was an action movie so she wasn't all that into it. Me on the other hand?! I had more fun watching this than any of the Star Wars prequels.
I saw Escape From LA in the cinema. It looked great, but felt slow at times. The basketball scene and the Surgeon of Beverly Hills were great. Kurt Russell is always great as Snake.
Haha ha same. I loved escape from NY which is a cult classic a la Blade Runner style but they both bombed so most didn't hear about it. So had to support this in cinema and it's a great post apocalyptic detective noir but the script is weak. Basically same recycled story. John Carpenter didn't get another cinema release after this.
Thank you again for this 10 things list. I actually saw Escape From New York when it came out here in Oregon when I was a kid and it was and still is one of my favorite movies of all time. So when the sequel came out I was there to see it opening day in the theater. And I do love it, but not as much as the original by any means. It's fun, but it's mostly a rehash of the first movie. From being suckered into taking the job, to what bugged me the most, getting shot in the same leg he got an arrow in, in the first movie at about the same point and then limping for the rest of the movie. That always bugged me. But I love his outfit. And the ending is great when he's gets one over on the entire world. That's totally Snake right there. Anyway. Sorry to drone on. I had the exact same experience. Feal the same way too. But like you said, if I had seen Escape from NY first then I might like that more. However, I truly enjoy the campy, action packed, fast-paced LA better than NY
Thanks for the great video!! I was working at a videogame company while Escape From LA was being filmed. We were going to make s game based on the film so we were on set multiple nights watching them film for reference. Great experience!!
Personally I really liked Escape From LA. I think those that didn't like it, especially compared to Escape From New York, thought the movie was a little too silly compared to how more serious Escape From New York was for the most part. Also the special effects in Escape From LA do leave a lot to be desired but for me they add to my nostalgia for the movie. It's a guilty pleasure and a great movie to turn your brain off and enjoy.
Agreed. '" ESCAPE FR0M LA"' was too campy/silly. The scene with snake on a treadmill in the back ground was just stupid. "'ESCAPE FR0M NY'" was awesome. It was dark, cool and morbid. Awesome premise. Cool F/X

Interesting fact, a movie called New Crime City came out in 1994 with the same exact premise for Escape from L.A....it was rumored that New Crime City was the original script for Escape from L.A. Personally I love Escape from NY, it is one of my favorite movies of all time and I think I've watched it over 100 times...however Escape from L.A., I saw just once in the theater when it first came out and that was it. I am glad I saw Escape from L.A. but it was the one John Carpenter movie I felt completely missed the mark. The first movie was grounded in a dark world of a prison city, LA felt like a campy comedy fest with unbelievable and over the top action sequences that had me rolling my eyes instead of cheering for Snake.
Kurt Russell based the President in Escape 2 off of Televangelist Pat Robinson. Escape 2 actually has pretty good Social Commentary. And there was a 3rd Escape movie in the works. They weren't going to have Kurt Russell, though. And Carpenter had said he wasn't interested without Russell bring there. So it fell apart. I think this was worked into Doomsday starring Rhona Mitra, as it wasn't long after the rumors of the 3rd Escape movie, that this movie was made. This was my introduction to Snake Plisskin, I rented it from the video store across the street from the Burger King I worked at in high school. I'd run over there on my lunch breaks to pick out movies or video games for after work.
Dude I love your 10 things you didn't know videos and I loved this particular movie. Could you please do one on 1995s The last Supper with Cameron Diaz ? It's one my favorite movies.
Escape From the Retirement Home could be hilarious! I loved the Escape From films. Fun fact, I watched them out of order when I first discovered them. So LA had a bit of extra nostalgic goodness, and New York was just great. Anyone who says they couldn't see an old, crookbacked Plisken beating someone into oblivion with a walker is just wrong.
Escape from Mars!? Oh hell no! Escape from Cleveland is what we want. Give us the Prequel set in 1994. With a flashback to Escape from Kansas City just a year prior. One in which we graphically see just what happened to Fresno Bob. Referenced in Escape from New York when Snake confronts their old treacherous partner Harold Hellman (who now goes by "Brain" in Escape from New York). That's what we want!
I remember my brother told me that this was a sequel, after watching a commercial for this movie. Our neighbor had Escape From New York,. After watching that I had to watch Escape From LA. I think both are awesome.
I remember watching LA back in the early 2000's and never known there was a New York one before it but I like the LA one more because of the ending on how Snake made his clever escape.
Great show.💪 I don't know if you've covered another Kurt Russell movie: 'Soldier', but if you haven't I'd love for it to be on some of the next issues of the show.👀

Great vid, on the movie names changes, I am french and this was very common back in the day, for good or worse, it was always about marketing as english titles would be difficult for many to prononce or stick to the general audioance, at least New-York 1997 and Los Angeles 2013 made sense. Those movies will forever stay a big classic, I might re-watch them, again, thanks for the vid !
10:32 Here in Italy, "Escape from New York" is known as "1997: Fuga Da New York" (1997: Escape from New York") and early ads for the sequel carried the title "2013: Fuga da Los Angeles". I reckon they dropped the date so that people wouldn't confuse the movie with "2013: La Fortezza" (the Italian title for Stuart Gordon's "Fortress").

I remember seeing Escape from L.A. in my home town of Lynchburg, Virginia in the theater… The part they say they moved the capital from Washington, DC to Lynchburg, VA… I remember the whole theater roar with laughter and everybody started clapping..It was a neat moment…
Fun Fact: Georges Corraface who played the lead baddie of L.A.: Cuervo Jones, previously played Christopher Columbus (replacing my favorite Bond actor: Timothy Dalton) in the 1992 film: *"Christopher Columbus: The Disco-very"* which reunites John Glen as the film director, Arthur Wooster as the Ocean Unit photographer & director, Bob Simmonds as a co-producer, and Bond baddies Robert Davi, Benicio Del Toro and Michael Gothard.

Escape from L.A. is a great movie. I own it on DVD.
I remember seeing this the day it opened! It’s a fun flick!
Great work again, Minty!
Some of Minty's most common phrases are:
"I don't know"
"you know"
"who knows?"
Haha it's awesome 👍 "I remember when this movie had a different cover".
Very Underrated Classic! Loved This “Big Popcorn Movie!”
Been waiting on you to do this one. Thanks Minty
Saw this when it was released. It was a ton of fun to see. I miss seeing movies like this at the theater.
Awwww yeah! Been waiting for this one🤟🤟🤟
I actually enjoyed this movie more then escape from NY. Loved the soundtrack.
This was my introduction to Snake Plisskin, I rented it from the video store across the street from the Burger King I worked at in high school. I'd run over there on my lunch breaks to pick out movies or video games for after work.
I absolutely love these movies 😢❤
Dude I love your 10 things you didn't know videos and I loved this particular movie. Could you please do one on 1995s The last Supper with Cameron Diaz ? It's one my favorite movies.
Escape From the Retirement Home could be hilarious! I loved the Escape From films. Fun fact, I watched them out of order when I first discovered them. So LA had a bit of extra nostalgic goodness, and New York was just great. Anyone who says they couldn't see an old, crookbacked Plisken beating someone into oblivion with a walker is just wrong.
Solid Snake of MGS got his name from Snake Pliskin
Escape from Mars!? Oh hell no!
Escape from Cleveland is what we want. Give us the Prequel set in 1994.
With a flashback to Escape from Kansas City just a year prior.
One in which we graphically see just what happened to Fresno Bob.
Referenced in Escape from New York when Snake confronts their old treacherous partner Harold Hellman (who now goes by "Brain" in Escape from New York). That's what we want!
Snacks ARE good Minty! Thank you for existing and all you do.
Snake Plisken!! Great video as always!
I remember my brother told me that this was a sequel, after watching a commercial for this movie. Our neighbor had Escape From New York,. After watching that I had to watch Escape From LA. I think both are awesome.
I totally agree... This movie is underrated. It was lost on me as a teenager, but I totally get it now
They already did escape from the retirement home. "Bubba Ho-Tep" 😂
I remember watching LA back in the early 2000's and never known there was a New York one before it but I like the LA one more because of the ending on how Snake made his clever escape.
Great show.💪
I don't know if you've covered another Kurt Russell movie: 'Soldier', but if you haven't I'd love for it to be on some of the next issues of the show.👀
Another great video Minty
Kurt Russell based the President in Escape 2 off of Televangelist Pat Robinson. The Social Commentary in Escape 2 is actually pretty good.
I remember seeing this in the theater. 96 was a great year for movies.
I remember going to the theater to see this movie!! STILL LOVE IT!
Nice take on this! Saw it in theater and enjoyed it a lot!
love both movies and still up there with my favs of all time
I love this movie. Underrated. Lots of fun.
Steve Buscemi looks like The Joker 😅😂
As an Aussie, I do recall this movie being advertised, but only a couple times, really late at night which was always reserved for B-movies.
As a fellow Valley Stream Alum like Steve Buscemi and Jim Breuer whose entire family were extras... It is *"TREES LOUNGE"* give it a try Minty. Good lil flick
Time to time the "Snake Plissken" Theme gets stuck in my head for no reason.
Nice one, Minty.
I actually always did like escape from LA in spite of the bad effects
Awesome video as always, you're never lazy with your facts and always have fun.
Awesome video! Escape from LA was a fun movie to watch
Russel really did that 3 pointer court shot!!
One of my top 4 favorite movies, along with Big Trouble in Little China
Love this movie, childhood memory for me. I know people will disagree but I prefer escape from la over New York
The Piper always comes. He always balances everything.
SNAKE PLISKIN..........The OG Solid Snake from Hideo Kojima's METAL GEAR/METAL GEAR SOLID franchise.
1 of my all time favorites.
This is one of my absolute all time favorite movie
Strike while the what is hot? I heard "hour". If so the phrase is strike while the iron is hot. It's a blacksmith thing. Working metal is easier while it's hot. Not trying to be a jerk. Just helping a friend. Great videos bud! Keep up the great stuff! Glad you are back home!!!
I remember seeing Escape from L.A. in my home town of Lynchburg, Virginia in the theater… The part they say they moved the capital from Washington, DC to Lynchburg, VA… I remember the whole theater roar with laughter and everybody started clapping..It was a neat moment…
I love Escape From L.A. I actually saw it in theaters... with my mom. A fun time with a lot of legends, including Peter Fonda.
Fun Fact:
Georges Corraface who played the lead baddie of L.A.: Cuervo Jones, previously played Christopher Columbus (replacing my favorite Bond actor: Timothy Dalton) in the 1992 film:
*"Christopher Columbus: The Disco-very"* which reunites John Glen as the film director, Arthur Wooster as the Ocean Unit photographer & director, Bob Simmonds as a co-producer, and Bond baddies Robert Davi,
Benicio Del Toro and Michael Gothard.
Ghosts of Mars was amazing to child me. Scared the hell out of me at times, but loved it.
It is a underrated classic!
Great soundtrack to this
