    I never thought to do this! Also to get rid of the top soil pest you can just place a layer of stones on top of your soil.

    I used to be too shy with cutting them down for winter...
    Not anymore! Less leaves and less soil means less pests may come inside along with it.
    Sometimes I even submerge the whole plant for a while under soapy water...

      I do that as well! Pest prevention is a must.

    I’d like to see follow up videos of your overwintered plants.
    It seems nobody has any that show progress into year two.
    Everyone is all talk about how to do it but not results.
    You have great videos, so doing a complete cycle would be nice.

    I greatly appreciate the videos you posted and I always check up on tube for any new ones you may have posted. Gotta say that I’ve learned a lot of the small sized pots or recycled empty water bottles where you grew the peppers indoors. I really got to planting the way you showed of the different ways of planting the peppers in small containers and they stayed small. I share your videos with a lot of my family and friends trying to get them to planting indoors because they are the elders that have limited disabilities. They get amazed when I show them what I grew which I learned from so that they can still plant a garden indoors. I hope you can try growing some micro dwarf tomatoes because they don’t really grow that big at all. Micro dwarf Rom Tomatoes, Micro Tina, Nina Neutron, Micro Baby, and just so many different varieties. Please keep up with your videos because I’m sure it will help a lot of elderlies and small space dwellers. Many thanks again. BTW, let me know if you need some micro dwarf tomatoes seeds that can I share for your videos.

    I dug up a bunch this year, last few years they never could manage the winter indoors without a light so this year they got a light.

    I love your voice! You have a DJ voice like you are commentating Soul Train or something. It's chill but has energy behind it. I love it!
    We overwintered our chillis in the bathroom last year and was scared that they wouldn't come back, after so much pruning but they did.
    Building up the kids chilli levels slowly here in London, UK. They are currently at cayenne, red hot chilli pepper level atm. I think you call it elementary school age.
    I made jam and froze the rest so mummy and daddy can have the Thai Dragon's or hot chilli's as we need to. I am also drying on vine some of the Thai ones.
    I see a lot of people in the UK not over wintering hot peppers. The least you can do is try.
    I have saved seeds from both and going to start a whole bunch of onions and peppers as challenge on Boxing Day!
    I might use kitchen paper towel to spray my pepper seeds first. I got these chillis from an allotment sale, so first time growing from seed! Fingers crossed!
    We are working at it but one day, it will be natural to put chilli in a meal as normal again.
    We are just content that we are having home grown veg atm and they find it weird why people don't like sprouts!
    Was a big mistake that home economics was just for girls only before they dropped it from the curriculum to be more inclusive. Same with wood work or craft, design and tech for boys. It now just seems diluted to make way for the separate ideology session, which should be placed into the religious education sphere.
    You might block me but i am a firm believer of children learning to do, rather than enforce beliefs.
    Not sure where the saying is from but give a person a fish and they have a meal for a day but teach that person how to fish and they are set up. Just like with spreading information on how to grow your own food and know where your food comes from to make educational decisions.
    Probably rambling by now. Great video and take care!

    I live in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Sometimes my temperature goes below 32 degrees in winter but not often. I have one jalapeño that has survived in the ground for 5 years without freeze cloth. I have a bell pepper that survived four years in a pot outdoors only covered when temperature dropped to freezing.

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Mine usually dies as soon as it drops to freezing for 2-3 days. If it's just 1 day, they were fine.

    Can we overwinter the same pepper plant more than once?

  • @blasermann1994
    @blasermann1994 Před 7 měsíci

    I would suggest a neem oil dip for the plant and bake the potting mix prior to using it to kill all the eggs.

    Thanks for the video Khang! Question... How many years can I over-winter a pepper. I have a Serrano that I've already over-wintered for 3 years. Is there a limit before there is a decline in production or heat level?

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  Před 7 měsíci

      Some varieties can live up to 10 years. We had a member on pepper lover community who grew Hawaiian chili and he said the plant was 10 years old! Most varieties can live from 3-5 years. I personally have not had any over 3 yrs old.

    What is the humidity and temp you keep your tent at? Im overwintering my Carolina Reaper and an F1 Chili Pepper plant in my basement. My Reaper plant withstood the 29F outdoor temps and the leaves are not even crisp or shrinking it looks like as if they are still in summertime weather minus the folliage turning from green to light green prior to overwinter. I agree yr 2 my pepper plants produced so much more and hoping for a successful year 3 harvest in 2024!

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  Před 7 měsíci

      wow that's a tough plant. 29F usually kills all of mine in one day. My tent is usually between 65-70F

    Another fine episode to add to your growing list of overwintering peppers Khang! And with your upbeat approach to overwintering, there is every opportunity for a plant to return to full life in the spring. Perhaps your upbeat outlook is an important part of the term "Green Thumb?" Who in your family has the sweet tooth though? Will there be a video featuring an empty container of Christmas candies? lol Speaking of Christmas and the Holiday Season, I Hope you and your family enjoy a Safe, Happy, and Merry Holiday time, with a spicy kick too! -Bob...

    Do you recommend fertilizing the pepper plants when conditions are right to move them out? I have a reaper that I'm overwintering for the first time.

    How long do you leave the lights on in your tent each day?

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  Před 7 měsíci +1

      My lights are on for 10 hrs because I am growing basil next to them. If you're just looking to overwinter, and not much growth, you can do like 5-6 hrs at cooler temperatures (55F or so).

    HELP! Anyone, I failed to pull my plants before 1st freeze. Should have pulled 30 days ago, have had maybe 12 nights since then below freezing with the lowest maybe 3 nights hitting 26 degrees. Can I still save/overwinter them???

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Dig them up, and check the trunk near the soil. Usually the temperature is warmer near the soil and they won't die just yet. Cut the branches near the bottom. If the inside looks fresh, not shriveled, or hollow, they plant could still be alive.
