I helped cut the cord for my senior aged parents a few years ago and went with Roku. As many will attest - simplicity.
LOL, I'm probably a senior aged parent. My son is 45 years old. I am fortunate that I worked in IT since the 1970s, and computer technology became a hobby as well as work. I help out my senior friends with tech related questions and problems. Just recently, a close friend had me over to help him wade through channel selections on his satellite TV service. The man is well educated and a former educator. To be fair, he is an expert in some areas that I am not, and he helps me out with lots of things.
Have only cut the cord within the last year. First with a Roku 4K+ streamer and then bought a 65" google tv about 3 mos ago. Strongly thinking about resetting the TV and installing the Roku ultra. Simplicity and less bloat and ads is the reason.
I purchased Roku's first player way back in 2007. Have upgraded Roku boxes several times over the years. I like them for ease of use. Great little remote. I have no plans to switch to another box.
Same here. I now also have a ROKU TV. I now use my old ROKU box on an older smart TV that doubles as my computer monitor. That has worked out great for me, especially when searching for a show or movie, since IMDB is not always up to date . A few years ago, I bought a Fire TV Stick, out of curiosity. It works fine, but at my age I prefer the larger sized channel selections on ROKU. I really like having s web browser on the Fire Stick, which the ROKU doesn't have. I keep the Fire Stick plugged into the TV so that I can switch to it as needed.
I use the Roku Voice Remote Pro on all my Roku devices. It allows me to plug in earphones so I can listen without disturbing anyone else. Only problem is they have to be charged, so I charge them in the day and use the earphones at night. Love it.
cool video. love the roku's. upgraded from the express, then the sticks, and now have roku tv's along with the roku speakers and voice remote pro. highly recommend.
Roku needs to have folders to sort the apps, its a pain scrolling through. Or have a recently used section.
Hate how roku deletes apps with no notification so that number at the top changes but you don't know what disappeared. They don't even have a blog or anything to find out about deleted apps
That would be handy. Originally, I thought a favorites section would be cool. But folders would allow you to categorize your apps. Making all apps easier to locate.
Roku Ads were not covered. How do you turn off Roku Ads and tracking spyware?
We cut the cord years ago.
I still cannot figure out how to scan on my ROKUs.
Question for Luke? Love your shows!
Is there anywhere available to get major political news channels (CNN, MSNBC, FOX) outside of a paid subscription? If not, what is the least expensive service that provides these channels? Thank you.🙂
Make sure to watch tomorrow's video. I will answer your question at the end.
Question for Luke: Have you ever reviewed the WebOS on a TV? I found my purchase of an LG WebOS too complicated and not as effective as the Roku TV I purchased after I returned the LG WebOS TV.
I'm confused as you are talking about Roku TV, but I see the name of the corporate naming rights john of the theater in hollywood. So, who made the tv you are using for this video?
I'm guessing that regardless of who made the tv, that the tv is a smart tv and it will need an internet connection. So, in that case, does this tv flood the screen with ads while you are actually watching content or if you pause content? What is the relationship between roku and the john? As far as I know, they are separate companies, so did the tv company build in the roku app to its tv?
And lastly, what about the non-negotiable Terms of Service that roku recently forced down folks throats? Did you have to accept that TOS in order to be able to use this tv? I am looking for a new tv after moving, so I don't want to get stuck with ads while I watch something that's not supposed to have ads or while I am trying to find stuff (I did see that other than the static ad on the right side of the roku home page, there weren't any ads; that's what I remember from my roku set-top box I have).
To be clear, I not a fan of naming rights, hence my use of the term I wrote. I avoid as best I can buying products or services from such companies.
Thanks.
Bare with me if I am missing your point. Smart TVs require internet access to be fully functional. Roku is an operating system found on several television brands and Roku-branded TVs and players. They sell and service ads in-house and for some apps. So you may find Roku anywhere. Personally, I find they have fewer and less obtrusive ads than most devices. As for channel or app ads, the number and frequency depend the channel or ap.
@@advlandvideo No, you nailed it perfectly. I didn't know that roku is an o/s. I just figured it was on their own tvs. I will be looking for a new tv in the coming days, so I appreciate the info. Thanks again.
If I chose to, could I bring it home take it out of the box plug it in hook up my outdoor antenna and watch TV. No logging in no signing in. None of that Crap.can that be done?
Is it safe to buy a Roku tv now
Memory limitations often effects the number of apps you can have loaded until streaming is effected. So memory expansion is a concern.
What confuses me is how to reset the roku tv
If you accidently hit factory reset.😢😢😢
Will there be a Apple TV video? I mean, the Apple TV home screen is just as simple plus no ads!
Haven't got no messages on my tv
How do you know ur TV is Roku
So what's better, Roku or Firestick?
It solely depends on the individual. In and of themselves, they are both great. So then there's the question on how to test drive them both? There's really not a convenient way to do that. I'm thinking that one could visit friends that have one or the other. Here's an idea that just popped in my head; go to a big box store that have both on display, and try them out.
I use both Roku and fire devices. But I have never had a memory issue with the Roku. With the fire Sticks I have had to clear the cache. For me, Roku are simpler. Fire devices have a web browser that Roku do not have.
I prefer a TV with a web operating system like LG TV's have
What about the interrupting roku update that stopped my roku streaming and total use??? I agreed and checked the update to agree to update and they have me cut off yet? And it has been over a week ?? And no reply to my requests any suggestions or do I go back to amazon now ? Thank you
After what Roku has done I will never buy one of their products again. That is next level anti-consumer behavior. And the bold face lie that the new EULA and the account hacks are completely unrelated.
LMAO Yeah, this is the guy I take financial advice from. LOL
A lot you have to pay for on Roku you get very little free. I had to pay for the History channel just to get American Pickers.
If you like your data breached, Darth Vader altering the agreement, and forced arbitration, sure.
Actually, arbitration Works faster than court systems. Once you complete arbitration, you still have the option to go forward to court if the arbitrator grants it. Not a bad deal. Of course I am active in alternative dispute resolution.
