Thanks for taking up the considerable challenge of actually running it and not just doing it. I hope to be more involved this year and we'll see going forward. For now, I'm getting into the swing with my 10 minutes a day minimum. If anyone has access to the wood and does that, the wood will just add up fast without even thinking about it. Also catching up on your and other YT friend's axe content and FB cordwood challenge posts. My head has been so far from cordwood challnge that I almost never remember to post videos in the group. But I'm weird and I'm usually either doing something or I'm not. My original challenge was in cords, but I decided in public year two that ricks made more sense, since the challenge is about chopping time. It seems to hold some weight (with me included) tto be able to say "cord". I don't even measure length anymore. I just eye ball it if that and have one stove that takes long and one that takes short. Stay safe everybody! I'll send people your way and try to do an ACWC shout out vid this month.

Stephen, I can’t thank you enough for starting this challenge. It’s gotten me out in the woods more often than I would be otherwise. And I’m just starting to get efficient at using an axe. Still a long way to go and a lot to learn. Thanks for watching some of my old videos too. I know they’re not great. I’m sure I’ll get a camera sometime and stop using my phone, but I’m just using what I have at the moment. Love to know what you think about my safety videos. I’m just trying to share the things I do that seem to keep me safe.

As the new ambassador of the axe you did well with the emphasis on safety and a demonstration of expectations. I also like the fact you honoured the previous ambassadors and introduced yourself and told us of your occupation and interests. My attraction to the axe is that of a skill that for those who frequent woodlands is very necessary. The axe will free a stuck chainsaw, drive a wedge while felling with a chainsaw, aid in the process of dressing game. My great-grandfather and step-great-grandfather were timber cruisers and loggers before the chainsaw. My great-grandfather died in the woods while working of natural causes. What better place to meet one's Maker than in the woods. Our attraction can also be akin to the skill of primitive fire, friction, flint and steel etc. Not required but very nice to possess and practice. I would also add your choice of words was very commendable....

Thanks a lot, really. It means a lot when people take the time to comment instead of just consume and move on, especially in such a small community. Anyway, you’re reasons are my reasons too. But at the end of the day it is fun exercise to me. That said, i think there’s something intangible about axe use and bushcraft type stuff that connects us to our forefathers. Hope to see you with a Rick or more at the end of the year. Good luck and stay safe!

love the one tree challendge, we used to offer a woodcutting camp between christmas and old/new year for scouts 12 to 17.
were we teach them how to use axes and saws safe. and the older ones (14 an above) need to fell and clean a tree to show everything they learned on the third day. only 4 to 5" trees but still a chellendge for them time wise and all.
to bad the big C stops is again.
still it is doable and you will learn a lot, pasing yourself is one of them.

We’d be glad to have you! Even if you just get started. Don’t have to commit to a whole rick or cord. Try the one tree challenge first. And you’re actually ahead of the game if you’ve used an axe splitting before. But chopping is a very different kind of axe use. Check out my Safety Sally series. It’s aimed at someone just like you who wants to get into the challenge, but hasn’t really swung an axe for much else besides splitting. See you in the chat...

Sorry, just seeing this now. Yeah we have tried new water-based formulas for cabinets, but have gone back to HVLP and lacquer as well. You just can’t beat the durability and fast dry time. I’ve done some in high gloss slow drying oils, just to achieve that hard glass like finish the customers were looking for, but it takes forever and you basically have to have a dust free environment because one fruit fly in the paint can ruin your day lol.

Hopefully this year, but still unsure. Most of my hobbies have taken to the back burner in the last 6 months. I pine for going into the woods to live, to forage and to chop. I leave every morning a life in the woods to drive into the suburbs and make a living. It gets harder and more difficult each day. I really like the 'one tree challenge' idea. Last year was unusually busy in my line of work (custom granite fabrication) despite the pandemic. In 2019 ACWC I chopped a little over a full cord (which had more than couple single trees) - and did the big log challenge, so I know without a doubt that I can do it again. Just need the afforded time. Anyway, keep up the quality content (and production), I think you appear very comfortable and cogent in front of the camera.

I know it wouldn’t be fun most of the time, a lot like work really, but there’s something to say about working for your own sustenance and security than for a paycheck. Although starting my own business really helped me. It switched my mentality from having to get up and do my job, to I have some work to get done. That said, it takes up most of my free time. I take one day a week to get to the woods. Granite is a great business to be in at the moment, as everyone has money it seems and is spending it on their homes. Thanks for the compliments. I do my best with what I have. I’m just shooting and editing on my fine atm, but maybe I’ll upgrade this year.

Thank you Kevin! Excellent, that is quite a surprise and will look forward to using it. Another great video. Let me know how we should get together.

Hello! I liked the content! You most def have to put out more vlogs! You should most definitely collab with the crazy team Bad Friends. Their vids low-key are like Danny Duncan mixed with PewDiePie. Theyre the coolest group in America and they straight up vlog every time!
Go check out their YT out and give the vloggers a like! 👉 #FreeRealBadFriends
