I purposely visited here in 2018 because of the soundtrack to John Carpenters 'Dark Star'. I went to the tourist office and had an awesome chat with the people there. The chap had a box of ACME dynamite on his desk amongst the piles of paperwork. I wish i'd taken a picture of the office. Any office worker would of been proud of that desk.
I lived here from 1983 until 1988. Then again from 1992 until I moved to Tucson in 1996. Honestly, I can remember wanting out so bad as a kid. It's nice to see it now (well, 2 years ago anyway). What a walk down memory lane. I miss it to be honest. I love San Antonio but miss the people and the smell of rain on the desert in Az. We lived on Patrick Drive up in the heights! Miss you Benson!
axelhsa ~ Were you living there when they filmed the segment on the NBC show 'Real People' about Sheila and Gene Reynolds? They were a transsexual couple where Harry, a Vietnam vet, became Sheila and the wife, Jean became the husband, Gene. They showed the towns people giving them dirty looks, etc. I wish Real People would upload their story since they've been uploading other segments of their show.
Here it is 4 1/2 years in the future from this video, high summer in 2021, and the little changes I can see from then to now are really interesting. Just watching this I can feel the winter chill in the video. Only wish you would have taken the turn on County Road and gone up the hill by the water tank. I would have liked to have seen my house, 2 1/2 years before I bought it! 😎
Really enjoy this video, I'd like to visit Benson one day soon.... BTW, what are you driving ? it sounds healthy and my guess is it's heavy, like a heavy truck or motor home ?
Thank you, glad you liked the video. I'm driving a 4x4 2000 Dodge Ram 1/2 ton extended cab, 5.9L stock, with a flow master exhaust, one muffler; dual tip. The kind you can feel on the floorboard, and hear in the cab. I always liked the loud ones. Hopefully, you do get to visit Benson soon. It's a friendly town, I get a good feel about it when I drive through.
Ahhhhh !... after looking at the video one more time- I had it pinned as a 4x4 pickup after watching one spot where you turn around in Love's, for like 2 seconds you can see the shadow of your truck cast forward onto the parking lot. Too funny. But I had it in my head it was a Ford for some reason, I was thinking 4.6 with possible flowmasters... I should have known Dodge by the transmission, it's a little looser than Ford, meaning, less lockup. It makes perfect sense ! Do you live in the general area ? I'm in SE Michigan, Fraser.
As you may have noticed from the shadow, it also has a camper shell on it. I live in Tucson, which is about a 45 minute drive from Benson. Michigan sounds cool, Tucson's already hitting 100+ degrees. Keep cool and thanks for the reply.
I live in benson it’s actually a great little town I love it 🥰

I've never seen this video until now, but being from Maricopa County, I have to say that Arizona has the best paved roads ever !!!

huh? Benson AZ is a thing? I thought this was made up by Carpenter on a waystation...nice engine sound too ;)
There were cross-streets, running north to south, that you could have turned on, driving a loop through the town. It's not just a single road.
why did you get off on the Sierra Vista exit in the first place ?
Maybe because that's part of Benson too?
