Today we are having a closer look at the one G-Shock to rule them all. the GW-M5610.
Fun fact, the heaviest vehicle to drive over a watch weighs 24.97 metric tonnes. This was achieved by none other than Casio (Japan), in Kodama, Saitama, Japan, on 30 October 2017. Casio's G-Shock DW-5600E-1 was driven over by a truck and survived, it ticked correct time afterwards without any crack on the timepiece body or the wrist band. A Guinness world record, believe it or not. In this video we have a closer look at the GW-M5610. Beating inside, if I can say that, is the module 3159, which has now been updated with the 3495 module. The very latest version of this watch is the GW-M5610U so bare that in mind when you feel like getting one of these in the near future. The differences between this version and the latest update, visually at least are quite small. In a nutshell, the old version uses a green panel that lights up the entire display from the back. The new version has a white led that shines from the left, and as a result, a different wording referencing that light on the bezel. Personal preference here, I prefer the old green backlight myself, which is what I have here.
The module is also different from the new one, with a few tweaks here and there, including being able to display the date and month in the non-US format, which is great for many of us. If buying today, keep an eye out for the GW-M5610U, meaning the letter U at the end, and you’re good to go.
However, functionality and looks are mostly the same between both versions, if I can say that. Meaning they both display time, date, a chronograph, timer, alarms, and world time.

The 5610 is literally god tier.
The watch I use in the night to see what time it is - because of the perfect illumination. The watch I use in the morning to set the time on my mechanical watch of the day - because of multi band 6. The watch I use... for everything. Good looking perfect watch. You never have to change the battery.

Cheers Bob! NO G-Shock? 😱 If you get just one, imho just get this one (maybe get the latest version, as mentioned in the video / depending on preference). These are really not expensive, readily available and just… well they will last forever 😄 This is the easiest watch to recommend imho. This and perhaps an SKX (which is a different budget).

Awesome review....not sure about you Euro dates!!!😅 I also prefer the backlight vs the LED, not sure why watches went to that older school face light vs back Lume (I'll call it Indiglo which TIMEX did, maybe extends battery?).
It would be hard to call a "one G-Shock to rule them all" because you can own a bunch and they are really fun (Styles etc). I still wish I had mine from Highschool (90's) I had a pretty sick silver one and the classic DW (forget reference).

Thanks a lot Karl! Yes, I agree, I own around 10 G-shocks at this time, and I'm not even trying to collect them lol, I just pick one up every once in a while and they never break, so they add up.. quickly. A single G-shock is a lonely G-shock, right? :-) Much appreciate the feedback!!
Do you know where I can find the older 5610 with EL light and not the LED? ?Anybody have new old stock that isn't EBay?
The only thing about this one and other 5610 models is the line crossing the screen where is the battery indicator isn’t straight.
Only thing I don't like about the 5610 is the inability to display the current time whilst the countdown function is operational. Really annoying.
