This brings me back to a mid-winter Sunday evening, 35 years ago. Sitting in a train, with 2 hours ahead of me, on my way to the army barracks where I was stationed back then. Watching all the street and station lights flash by in the dark as we speed at 80 mph on a cold steel rail road. The cadence is soothing. Got my headset on and plugged in into my walkman. Playing the album Somewhere in Time out loud twice until I reach my destination. And again during the walk from the train station to the barracks in the icy cold dark on the desolated and empty streets. Just me and Iron Maiden.

It's lives biggest battle,Not giving into resentment, and self-pity, keeping your mind active in the present and able to take advantage of opportunity, instead of taking sad indulgence, in reimagining the past, which gets the dopamine levels flowing, on a superficial, momentary basis, but is counter-productive to having a successful future life

@Bras & Lex Too bad she dropped most Metal for some unkown sad reason! Lexy never got to really explore Yngwie! & Now @Brad After Dark is into it more. Brad was always more of the lyrical one. Love to see him revisit some song he wasn't into as much first time around.
Idk who in their right mind called this trash? This is one of their top songs & Very importan measage! Not uncommon for UK bands. More intelligent then most. Redo on early Iron Maiden songs. Love Bruce but Paul was godly! & MUST redo #1= Krokus -Screaming In The Night (with video a must this time❣) & all feel free to add on...
Wonder why Lex pulled away? Maybe because masses don't get it? Don't have the extra wrinkley brain to appreciate & understand it? Then people claim it is bad for children. Yet look up Ivy League studies & they proved how intelligent Classic Metal especially is.
It lights up many sections of the brain & for children more so. Even in utero they proved it aids in brain development. Thus why 60-70% of Mena (Genius Club) Members prefer Classic (not nu/un) Metal! & Next is Metals cousin, Classical! Look it all up! Many studies & papers written!
      &
*Light up your brains & smoke some Classic Metal instead of the brain killer green!
Enjoy all one can whilst can... Take care & be well all💜🤘

The best solo on this incredible album is on the song 'Stranger in a Strange Land' - you need to hear it Lex. 'Somewhere in time' was Maiden's 6th studio album and the first time they dabbled with guitar synths. They got some criticism for this but the whole album had a real ethereal quality to its production, mainly the electric guitar sound.

At the height of their youthful and creative powers. This is from the very middle of that period when they were literally world conquering. It expresses the homesickness and the recognition of the fact that they are in fact at the top of their career... '' Living in the golden years ''

This tape would play the song and then the song without the guitar part and then the song without the other guitar part so that he could practice playing those parts... It was this song.... My parents listened mostly to country and I had never heard anything like this before.... It changed my life.... About 5 years later my dad bought me a very cheap guitar... Within 24 hours I was playing Kirk Hammett solos.... I didn't sleep for a week.... Few years later I started my own band... The band eventually broke up because I wouldn't sign the record contract... I was in Highschool when this came out. At the time I had been listening to them for years, and thought this was them going commercialized, so I really didn't give it a chance. Later in years as my diversity in music increased, I really got to love this whole album.

you should do some live concert video of Iron Maiden. theyve got an energy on stage that lex will love...and be aware most if not all Maiden songs are usually based on history, books, poems, movies or dreams. theyre the easiest way to learn history ever

I saw Maiden throughout the 80s. I went to see them in Pittsburgh show during the Somewhere in Time tour in '87, I believe. On my way to my seat I stepped on something soft and wouldn't you know it was a packaged Wasted Years t-shirt! Lucky me! Not so much someone else.

I was 12 when Iron Maiden entered my Life
It was the video for Run to The Hills
The Number of the Beast album had just come out (yeah I'm old)
I was hooked that day and have been ever since
Its so pleasing too see Young Folk, no matter what race, embrace this incredibly talented band
Now if only the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame could get its head out of its ass

I love this album, the one that introduced me to Iron Maiden. The album, Somewhere in Time, is controversial with some fans, but for those of us who heard iron Maiden first with it, it's one of the best. I'll echo suggestions for the song "Stranger in a Strange Land," also on Somewhere in Time, which isn't as speedy, but it's as dynamic with its rumbling bass line, and has one of Adrian Smith's best solos (and ranks up there with solos by David Gilmour imho). Love the reaction!

"WASTED YEARS" came off of Maiden's 1986 album "Somewhere In Time" which was a synth heavy album. It was the first, and for the most part, last time Maiden used synth sounds in their music.

When these come to the USA you need to go and see them live. To feel the drums thumping in your chest, and the bass thumping you in the stomach. And the guitars just going through your head. Plus the show these guys put on. You will never see a finer show. Plus you'll be accepted as part of the Iron Maiden family. Try to get as close to the front as possible. You won't regret it.

Doesn't get better than Maiden, Lex really gets metal and Brad seems less confused than usual. Brad needs more Iron Maiden in his life, maybe even a live video with an appearance from Edd.

For all of the youth out there. You hear your seniors around always talking about the good old days. Well my young friends, you are currently living in what you will later call the good old days, because in 30 years you will look back, hopefully with fond memories, on what was your good old days. Make every Day count, learn something new everyday, and don't have a life full of wasted years.
