  • TotalBoat's TotalProtect Epoxy Barrier Coat is a universal high build epoxy primer and barrier coat. Use it both above and below the waterline to prevent and repair gelcoat blistering. Applying TotalProtect will eliminate the possibility of water absorption and migration, the major cause of blistered fiberglass hulls.
TotalProtect is also an excellent anti-corrosive substrate primer for all underwater metals. Use it on keels, aluminum, steel, lead, cast iron, stainless, and bronze.
This video goes over all of the important steps in preparing your boat and the materials for a perfect application of barrier coat. As with any paint job, and even more so with this vital first layer of paint on a bare bottom, your surface must be perfectly prepared or the paint won't stick and your "barrier" will be compromised.
Additionally, applying bottom paint over the barrier coat requires a proper application of the TotalProtect barrier coat paint, with multiple coats applied and at the correct thickness.

Hi! Thanks for the great video! Do you have to remove and reapply masking tape for every new coat of epoxy? Or is it Ok to remove the tape when all 5 coats are done?

you should be able to leave the tape until the job is done, however use good tape and not something cheap. Make sure it's 3M and maybe even go for the green tape or FineLine which is higher quality.
