The Jebel Jais mountain peak is part of the spectacular cloud-piercing Hajar mountains. The range extends from Ras Al Khaimah on the eastern side of the United Arab Emirates to the Musandam Peninsula on the northeastern side of Oman.
On the Omani side, the mountain is largely undeveloped, inaccessible, and far from any development, however, on the United Arab Emirates side there has been a lot of development in recent years. A 20 km (12 mi) road has been built, which hairpins most of the way up the mountain on the United Arab Emirates side. Near the top of the road, there are parking places, food providers, toilets, and a viewing platform. After a security checkpoint, the road continues up a few kilometers further to the world's longest zip-line and an Etisalat cell tower, as well as a large flat area used for outdoor shows and parking. New buildings are also being built along this road section, for use by the zip-line operating company.
In January 2009 there was snow on Jebel Jais. This was only the second time the snow had been reported in the history of the United Arab Emirates, previously having only been seen in 2004. There was less on this occasion. In February 2017 it snowed again on Jebel Jais and the temperatures fell down to -5 degrees Celsius. In January 2020 a mix of snow and hail covered the mountain with the temperature dropping below zero degrees.

2009 ജനുവരിയിൽ ജബൽ ജെയ്‌സിൽ മഞ്ഞുവീഴ്ചയുണ്ടായി. യുണൈറ്റഡ് അറബ് എമിറേറ്റ്സിന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ ഇത് രണ്ടാം തവണ മാത്രമാണ് മഞ്ഞുവീഴ്ച റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്യുന്നത്, മുമ്പ് 2004 ൽ മാത്രമാണ് ഇത് കണ്ടത്. ഈ അവസരത്തിൽ കുറവായിരുന്നു. 2017 ഫെബ്രുവരിയിൽ ജെബൽ ജെയ്‌സിൽ വീണ്ടും മഞ്ഞ് വീഴുകയും താപനില -5 ഡിഗ്രി സെൽഷ്യസായി കുറയുകയും ചെയ്തു. 2020 ജനുവരിയിൽ മഞ്ഞും ആലിപ്പഴവും ഒരു മിശ്രിതം പർവ്വതത്തെ മൂടി, താപനില പൂജ്യം ഡിഗ്രിയിൽ താഴെയായി.
