Bravo to Director Jin for touching on this sensitive stateless issue which our country is severely addressed with. He not only directed but also written this excellent touching script which ultimately brought Msia to the international stage. Winning prestigious awards at Film Festivals & going to several foreign countries like New York, Italy, Switzerland & Poland etc., indeed a dream comes true for any director. Breaking the box office in Taiwan was a tremendous feat & looking forward the same here in our own country, honestly, it's one movie which all Msians should not miss. It hits home. Yes, the power of silence, without words, but a thousand precious feelings put across. Abang's heartrending speech to the monk in the death cell spoke volumes. We could feel his immense agony & severe pain. Similarly, when Adik confessed "In next life, I'll be the Abang to take care & protect you" brought the cinema to heartfelt tears. An achievement for Msian film industry. A pride & joy for our nation, something our politicians miserably fail to achieve at most times. Sinje Lee, being a renowned actress is now a splendid producer. Her confidence in casting Wu is exceptionally brilliant. Wu successfully looked slim & tanned in the movie (due to his great efforts & dedication of dropping weight, working at the Pudu Market & deligently learning the sign language) but now astonishingly handsome. The Best Actor Award was deservingly his. Jack Tan's transformation in the movie proves his acting skills & he rightfully deserves an award too. After Shuttle Life, he's our favourite local actor of all time. (Am also a great fan of his entertainer wife.) More successes await him. Definitely on par with our marvellous & awesome Michelle Yeoh. Many would be surprised that the adorable Money is a man. His performance of the transgender role is SECOND TO NONE! The highlight of this movie is the close bond of the non-blood related brothers; the message is perfectly portrayed. Preciously priceless. Salute to the Music Director (Ryota Katayama ) for the OMG, such inspiring music! It lives on even well after the show ends. Ribuan Terima Kasih for the well-chosen title of Abang Adik. Emotionally relatable to all Msians. So much so, many of us would watch this wonderful movie more than once. Indulgence of such is a luxury. We do not often get such a Msian pride. It's a rarity. It's a gem. Most of us are honoured to be able to enjoy this nearly 2-hr show. At the same time, we are awaken with reality; the stateless issue which NGOs, lawyers & selfless social workers are trying to rectify. This is Msia today ... Waited patiently to watch AA aftr reading many rave reviews publicity news of it. It was worth every sec, min and the near 2 hr or so glued in seat, eyes fixed on screen thruout the whole storytelling flow absorbed as a passenger to the fortitude: the courage and adversity engulfed in pain and constant uncertainty, hemmed and corsetted in a struggling, stifling social condition of both the titular character in AA movie. A well-thought, well-crafted, unique story premise hitting/pulling all the raw emotional notes espc my heartstrings. Congrats director/storyteller Lay Jin Ong for being fearless producing AA in a progressive inclusive but grim approach, thought provoking anchored in empathy. The titular characters the actors are in a class of their own including that the tender, sweet and affecting 'kakak Money'; a milestone of inclusion in a Msian produced movie. Abang, in his defeated silence got my emo oscillated as he epitomises a tear-jerking power of brotherly love; wishing if only i could have the same 'sibling' love and sacrifices in real life experience! It was inevitable tears flowed crying a river! Transfixed in movie seat till end of credit roll then an only unashamed, bold thunderous clapping frm me filling the cinema hall, typically unMsian. According to the director, one of his classmate who came from a poor family, everyday come to school with only one hard boiled egg. And he always cracked the egg on his own forehead.
