  • In this week's video, we explore the average costs of updating and renovating a home in Washington DC. We covered a full gut job, replacing a roof, updating HVAC, changing bathrooms/kitchens, and even pointing brickwork.
If you are thinking about updating your home or buying a house that needs improvements then feel free to reach out. I often help buyers navigate the process and even did my own house.

What about gutting all drywall and electrical? And installing new one?

Tough to tell without knowing the size. Updating an electric panel is probably around $3.5-$5k. Drywall is relatively cheap. Not sure if the whole house needs to be wired thought which would add a fair amount of cost.

Do you know the SF price for a contractor to renovate a house . will the price include Routh material like framing drywall etc

    • @CoffeeWithColeman

Those prices were inclusive of materials - but someone can spend much much much more without trying very hard. Also - This video is from 2020 so prices have gone up.

Hey Coleman, I am a recent homeowner of a row house on the NW and I am having noise issues since the home is on a main avenue. How would you recommend mitigating that noise? The windows are single pane currently. I have read about acrylic add ons but I am not very certain on what to do. If you have any good contractor that handles sound reduction I would absolutely be interested.

Does the brick repair that you’re referring to only for the inside living room portion of the home that is often in the classic DC row homes? OR are you referring to the outside of the home?
In addition to that, do you know how much it is to paint a DC row home because that seems to be a big part of the culture here

      I’m thinking more exterior.
Probably $4k to $10k depending on size and company.

would have helped if that pitch in the beginning, was more hands-on. if you could show what exactly was done and what did it cost

Every house is different. Even sharing that number likely wouldn’t help you any more than they numbers outlined in the video. That cost would have been $250-$300k
