The Congress and regional parties, particularly in the Hindi hinterland had humiliated the Hindu upper castes since 1952 and had given preference to the Muslims and Yadavs in UP and Bihar. The BJP restored the self respect of the upper castes without discriminating against the minorities, OBCs , Dalits etc. That is why the BJP got clear majority in 2014 and 2019. In fact the lower castes gave the BJP more votes than the Hindu upper castes. The BJP’s welfare schemes benefited all economically weaker communities without discrimination against any community on the basis of religion or cast and creed.

Panelist Arvind Kumar's analogy of Congress' elitism where he refers to "popular" local leader of Varanasi (Ajay Roy) and JNU's "sloganeering" leder (Kanhaiya Kumar) is absolutely wrong. First, Kanhaiya Kumar doesn't belongs to "elite", he comes from a very humble background and Ajay Roy is not as much popular but has criminal background. I wish He will reconsider this "example" in support of his argument on "eliticism" in the Congress at organisational level.

The second reason is the implementation of Mandal Reservations in higher and elite education under Congress rule by late Arjun Singh. This really hurts higher caste interests. This was a pivotal moment when disillusionment with Congress was complete
It's not that BJP policies are pro upper caste. On the contrary. Only difference is they don't talk down. Under Modiji, BJP treats upper castes exactly like Congress has treated muslims. Taken for granted. When Hon SC tried to amend atrocities acts to stop its blatant misuse, BJP surrendered to SC ST lobby which resulted in massive backlash particularly in MP and Rajasthan where BJP lost state election. Modiji immediately introduced EWS quota. Just 2 years ago in a blatant vote bank bribe, Modiji, introduced Mandal reservstions in medical PG courses without any notice. No additional seats were created. As a result open category seats were reduced to 3200 from appx 6000. Almost 50℅ open category seats were lost. Nobody felt any sympathy for the open category students who felt cheated as rules of game changed midway. To add insult to injury, the SC bench which ruled in Govt favor and provided legal shield to this was headed by most pro Affirmative Action Judge , the present CJI Shri. Chandrachud who, if my information is correct, has done PhD in Affirmative Action from a US University. Hardly anyone knew how whole this was beautifully managed.
Point is today open category has no altetnative leadership other than Modi. Higher caste votes are uo for grab if any political party has guts to help then addressing their concerns of rapidly diminishing education and career prospects of their children.
The points I have flagged are real. I'm not against reservstions. They are necessary. But if after 75 years we must review it.

After getting cornered in all parties,theytoo had to find out ab alternative politicsl base. What is so strange about it?.Every group,whether the Muslims,Dalita or OBC or othrrs do it by aligning themselves to a particukar party. In fact,in the case of dalits,OBCs, and Muslim, their fixation a particularly exclusive ideology oriented party id more pronounced than Brahmins and other upper castes. But the upper caste orientation is more fluid than others,so they cannot be taken for granted. They aligned with Mayawati at one stage,but with same ease, they left her party.

Excellent panel and matured nuanced analysis without bringing in personal bias. Firstly the title is offensive when the subject is Upper caste. You have singled out Brahmins as they seem to be your personal target of hatred. But kudos to guests for well researched answers. All of you missed the elephant in the room, reservations particularly to OBC classes which never faced any real atrocities or economic depravity and were as guilty as upper caste in suppressing SC and ST. This is perceived as votebank politics and social backwardness as a reason doesn't convince many. Nobody is against reservation but the way it is justified by pro reservations lobby including yourself is by insulting and humiliating Open categories and throwing merit in the dustbin. It doesn't work in reality. Secondly while justifying ever increasing demand for reservation all pro mandal lobby conveniently forget is rainfall of freebies like nominal fees, financial assistance, subsidized hostels, books, scholarships support at every stage. Open category pay far higher tution fees and not even crumbs were thrown to them. Bigger hurt of the open category is they are the max tax payers. It's their tax money and they get humiliation in return. Since Congress and Mandal parties are on same page here so higher castes don't vote from them. Even 10℅ EWS quota was not accepted gracefully. The pro reservations lobby reaction was over the top. This is first reason of upper caste voting mindset.
