I have been riding motorbikes in Thailand and Bangkok for 10 years.
I generally stick to Honda because they have the most shops and have 72% of the Thai market.
Best manuals are Honda Wave 110cc (about 45,000 with front disc) or Honda Wave 125cc (58,000 baht) If you change the oil every 3,000 kms will last for ever.
Best automatic is the Honda Click 160cc (67,000 baht without ABS) and Honda Click 125cc (58,000 baht). Great for shopping and the Thai girl to use.
Honda Scoopy 110cc (50,000 baht) is an excellent buy as well for Thai girl to go shopping.
The Honda PCX and ADV (farang seem to like them as do "successful" Thai bar girls). They are too long, bad turning circle, too many plastic panels, stepped seat that means really limited to two people and very expensive compared to the Honda Click that can carry a lot more shopping and people.
Over 200cc and under 400cc I would buy a Honda CB300R (156,000 baht). It is narrow, short wheel base, short turning circle and light so good for driving in Bangkok city as well as commuting and going on trips. The Honda Rebel 300/500 is good for a short person with low seat height and therefore ideal for a Thai girl to ride.
Over 400cc, the most common is the Honda CB500F and X and Honda CBR500 (215,000 baht) for reliability and price.
I would say that the ultimate big motorbike, value for money in Thailand is the Honda CB650R (308,000 baht) for its 4 cylinders and Neo Cafe Racer looks.
The Honda Monkey 125 is a fun cool motorbike but at 102,000 baht is expensive for a Thai. The new Honda DAX 125 is also cool at 86,000 baht.
Forget buying a BMW or Ducati as they are unreliable costly motorbikes with poor after sales service.
Also worth considering is the Royal Enfield 350s and Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Twin.
Vespas are not worth the money.
If one lives in Pattaya or Bangkok, I would opt for an automatic Honda Click 160 (67,000 baht) for getting around, going to 7-11, supermarket and knowing it can carry two Thai girl passengers on it or for manual (no clutch) a Honda Wave 125 (58,000 baht).

@@robertcanning1888 I would not go for used in Thailand due to abuse and lack of service (oil changes) and maintenance. If you can't afford 60,000 baht for anew motorbike, you should question if you are affluent enough to afford to be a farang in Thailand.

Very informative buddy, for those inclined. I only ride off road - Kawasaki KX and Honda CRF 250s. Too chicken to ride on the streets. Coffin on wheels. Need to ride defensively and assume that all the cars WANT to hit you. Same rule I have on my bicycle.
I don't like the sissy bike scooters, even the >300s. Suzuki Hayabusa, Ducati Monster are my favorites if I was on a suicide mission.

and comments thus far !! Another question and observation. The cars 🚗 and scooters 🛵 (second hand) are priced to sell !!
With regard the history of these units - does the vendor know how many “owners” the unit has had ?? Traceability wise !!
Also - over here we frequently take our units
to a garage to have them MOT and serviced
regularly, A stamp is entered on the book with the mileage, plus any receipts 🧾 for new parts that was needed during the service - this allows the current owner to document 📄 the entire history of the unit which makes it a lot easier to sell on to the next owner !! Is that
    a “think” over there ?
My thoughts are from a aesthetic point, a car can be made to look 👀 good - however,
the entire engine might be knackered !!
We have a saying here: -
You can’t “polish” a 💩- but my word,
you can roll it in GLITTER ✨ 🤩
    😳🫣🙀
    Thanks 🙏
    Mind how you go !!

Hi James, yes here in Thailand you only buy a second car if it has a “blue book” which documents the number of owners and a “Green book” for motorbikes. They have the same here where they stamp the service book and after a certain timeframe you have to take it for an inspection to re register the car/bike

Mate that is so typical here (TIT) this is Thailand as they say and very frustrating especially when comes to a bike, I had the same thing buying the Xmax last year, told the new model was 6 months away and then two weeks after taking delivery of the 2022 the 2023 was on the showroom available for immediate delivery…. I said wft too 😩. Did you get the ADV in the end?

Waves are number one for what Thais buy, this video is based on what are the top selling scooters bought by expats, I think yeah good for all the Pattaya city soi’s but not much more for my liking, I had a PCX160 and it was great but not for long distances and a little uncomfortable for me at 6th
