I think a sketch book is a very personal thing just like a journal is. If you love a messy sketch book it shouldn’t make you feel inferior. If it is personal it should be the way you want it to be. I really have an issue when people tell try to say what a sketch book should be. If it isn’t yours it shouldn’t matter. My other pet peeve is “you should paint loser”. I think “do I tell you what your style should be”? One question… why a “realistic sketch book”? A person who prefers a more polished look to their sketch book doesn’t think it isn’t realistic for them and you kind of imply it is not.
I totally agree that a sketchbook should be whatever you want it to be! As I say in the video, there's nothing wrong with other people having sketchbooks full of amazing paintings. I've used the word 'realistic' as I know for me and plenty of other people, those sorts of sketchbooks just don't seem achievable. That's not to say there's anything wrong with them or that anyone is lying by posting them online - just that it's not necessarily realistic for everyone to achieve. Hope this makes sense ☺️
