      @@truckinterrapin7706 I mean the reason why he doesn't produce a whole backing track with drums or other instruments on the fly is because it will take too long. He's mentioned it before that people have a short attention span because of tiktok or other reasons so they are not going to wait 10 minutes plus or however long it takes just so they can hear a cover they don't know might be good or not. Ok I'm gonna clear something up, I've been playing guitar for nearly 30 years, there are a HANDFUL of people that can play like thedooo, and I do mean a handful. He doesn't just play fantastically by ear, he uses techniques that take literally decades to master properly. This is not a commonplace guitar player, most guitar players can play their entire lives and never hit where he is right now in skill.
    He uses a delay pedal and looper station. He actually went to college for music theory and composition. That's why he has so much setup in a way in which he can immediately play it back.

    He is one of those musicians that has great relative pitch and he does play the songs on the fly. He does not add the music in post production. This is laughable how much you undermine the brilliance of this guy. Your average metal rock band guitarists are nowhere near his skill and fluency levels, the way he plays and connects the pieces on the spot with all of the complex scales, harmonics is just incredible. This is much more than picking a few chords and shredding pentatonics on top. As a fellow musician, I would say that in terms of raw technical skill he is even above most of the well known shredders like Herman Li. For what I heard watching him I believe that Eric is one of the most technically skilled guitar players in the world, below only the actual freaks of nature guitar gods like Buckethead or Paul Gilbert

    • @homedogoli
      @homedogoli Před 2 lety +4

      I don't get the people getting wound up by his comments, he didn't say anything that undermined his talent lol... He was saying that the ability to listen to something and then play it is common with highly trained musicians, that doesn't mean it's easy or unimpressive. He even said "the magic is still there, he's fucking insane". And while the dooo is incredible, I really do think it's a stretch to call him one of the most technically skilled guitar players in the world... There are so many freaks of nature guitar gods who are in a different league, but I wouldn't be surprised if he reaches that level one day. I'm sure he could already play a lot of their songs but it's just not quite as clean and refined as them.

  • @rheniusantonyraj8562
    @rheniusantonyraj8562 Před 2 lety +3

    The reason he can play the melody so well over the chord structure is that he 1. Just heard it like 30 seconds before he plays it. So the sound is fresh on his mind/short so he doesn't need to practice it. 2. The songs are pretty mainstream/basic melodies 3. He is just looping the chorus usually and fills the melody gaps with scales/runs which allows him to freestyle so he has leeway to not exactly play the notes. His stuff is not CUT.

    It's not really perfect pitch it's relative pitch. He's identifying one note and the key and that helps him find the rest of the notes from there.

    He is amazing. The amount of music theory required is crazy for someone like me who never learned anything past the circle of 5ths.

    • @AmarothEng
      @AmarothEng Před 2 lety +1

      I can play any of the major, minor, pentatonic and melodic minor scales all over the neck and don't fully remember that bloody circle :D. I visualize the neck and the patterns on it, I don't really worry about notation. Honestly, most songs requested are very straightforward and simple (they are catchy - that is why those kids request them). He has to pick up the catchy melody, pick up the chord progression and the root chord. That is all. Then he just improvises over it. It takes practice, not insane theory knowledge. What he is very good at is actual improv and technical ability to play cleanly.

      @@AmarothEng To be fair, this kind of pop music is not generally what he plays, but rather what others request. He is a metal-head through and through, with some electronic and jazz influences.

    This could sound as normal to a guitar player but looping base, tracking on it and hearing the songs for the first time then combining them all is not normal. Even if it is normal, no other guys has courage to do this in front of the people live. Respect to The Dooo please.

    Just found you and looked up the band. Solid tracks. Can’t believe it doesn’t have more traction. Better than a lot of crap on there.
    And no. He actually takes just a few seconds to listen. He cuts is short to avoid copy right claims. He’s self taught and no one really knows who he is. They know he worked in fast food 🤣 and his name is Brian. Watch the video between him and Herman Lee. He’s actually damn good.

    The thing is some of these songs are indeed not that complex to play. But it doesn't have to be complex to impress. It's an art to make something sound complex and beautiful with sometimes simple tricks. Nevertheless, you do have to be hella creative to come up with these on the spot without any try out/practicing.

    His rig is run through his PC, which allows him to upload pre-recorded backing tracks to his loop pedal at any time. What we hear in the video is what's heard by the people he plays to, it isn't "cut together" in post.
    If you want an example of him listening to a backing track before playing, watch his "Playing Guitar for GIRLS on Omegle" video.

  • @ACBongo
    @ACBongo Před 2 lety +4

    So many people seem to be confused about what you’re saying about the video cut. He does often play more of the song than he’s listened to even with songs he says he’s never listened to before. I assume he cuts out some of the listening to the song A) to stop copyright strikes and B) to make the video more interesting and compact. Nobody wants to see him listening to 3mins of a track to then play it back.
