What a cheerful couple. Anyone would think they'd been at a funeral, not their wedding.

I wonder if any of these machines were used in Honiton, Devon? I am aware there used to be a company mass producing lace in Honiton, although hand made lace making eventually out lived the mechanical powered method.

Honiton didn't produce lace. Tiverton has a Lace Factory (Heathcoats) they didn't produce lace they made the netting which then went on to be embroidered. The machines used at Tiverton were the Bobbinet Machines. Bobbinet machines are still in use today in our factory, Swisstulle (Somerset).

I've heard that there are lace making machines in Ireland that have been making lace for 200 years...

Is the "clipping" subtitle in the right place, or out of order?

Even though this is kind of sad, because it took MANY MANY MANY jobs away from women who handmade (bobbin lace) lace, it's still fascinating. The was lace is mass produced today is absolutely disgusting. It almost looks like it's plastic 🤢🤮🤢🤮
