the 'C' is always a hard sound in Gaelic so it would be Kinail not sinail
Only an ill educated silly sunt would forget the hard C
His name was Column or columnkill
St Colmcille Columba uncle granted him the island of iona.
@charlesd3a.......st columba was copied from 2 earlier st columbas. one scottish and one spanish. all 3 have the same story..
Interesting . Islay is pronounced eye - la or Isla. The y is always silent. The la is short and clipped. So not I- lahhrrr. But I -la..
Ye the Ai voice is miserable at pronouncing names originating from Gaelige or Gaelic
@@EireGoBragh32 You are right.. You can tell I'm virtually a boomer - I don't spot it was AI.
@@user-oo8xp2rf1kIt can be hard to spot , I prefer to spend my time researching and writing and I just plug the script into the AI software to get back a voice over!
Ireland like Britain was made up of various ethnic groups.
The term 'Gael' is a linguistic and cultural term.
The Scoti were a distinct ethnic group who spoke Gaelic.
They didn't invade Scotland, they were migrants who eventually became the the majority population in the region.
Their language and culture was spread by population expansion, by force and treaty the Gaelic language eventually spread across Scotland.
@mv12379......any migration was from scotland to ireland (certainly ulster). also, it's gallic in scotland coming from the frankish regions of europe. the galls/gauls were always at war with the romans there so they fled to england. when the romans invaded england they then fled to and settled in scotland. eventually, it would have crossed over to ireland , most likely with scottish galloglass warriors in the 1200s. irsh monks changed it to gaels to suit the narrative of the bible. probably around the 1400s.
I never want to hear a single bitching about planters again.
Shhhh. They like to pick one moment in history. It suits a narrative.
there was no invasion from ireland to scotland......other way round.fergus mor was most likely a pictish chieftain from scotland. also, it's gallic in scotland coming from the frankish regions of europe.the first peoples to enter ireland (certainly ulster)came from scotland.
There was
@@Gypsygeekfreak17 any movement of peoples to ireland (certainly ulster) was from scotland . there was never any invasion/incursion from ireland to scotland. archaeological/historical evidence points the other way.
