I would definitely say it depends on the comedian. If you have the ordinary white dude making cliche black jokes, and it comes off more of a style of jokes just to joke on black folks to majority white crowd, I would say it wouldn't come off as acceptable to some. But he has earned his ticket to the cookout years ago so he is just going with the flow lol. He has always been accepted for who he is and company he has kept

I have a friend who is black and much younger than I am. She grew up in Compton and we went to lunch one day. We got to the restaurant and she just sat there for a minute after she turned off her car, then she told me I was the first white person she’d ever had in a car with her. I thought she was joking but she was completely serious. Fast forward a year and her family had heard so many silly stories about me that I was invited to her brother’s birthday party. It was a pool party and I’m 💯 Irish; so pale white that I’m almost see through. Secondly I have a really, really Catholic name. It was so far outside the realm of names they were used to that they just ended up calling me “white girl” for the whole party. That was 13 years ago, they know my name now and call me by it when they’re talking about me, but when they’re talking to me I’m still “white girl”. lol
