- The Los Angeles Lakers announced yesterday that they are trading for Washington Wizards forward Rui Hachimura in exchange for Kendrick Nunn and three second-round picks. According to reports the Lakers plan on signing Hachimura a lottery pick in 2019 to an extension this offseason as he finishes up his rookie deal. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe react to Lakers trade.

What Hachimura should do is help them win those close games. Nearly all of their recent losses have only been by a few points. Hopefully Rui will provide an additional scoring punch and get them back into playoff contention. That will also let AD heal up longer so that he can come back strong for the playoffs

I'm with Shannon, I don't think this move makes them that much better. He can definitely help them score in key spots, but he actually doesn't fit w/Bron and AD for big mins. He's not a great long range shooter and he's not going to help them where they're weak defensively which is guarding wings. He definitely improves them but he's not a game changer, though a good young piece for what they gave up.

Thomas Bryant came from the Wizards, and he's everything the Lakers need rn. I think the Lakers got another piece they need. Rui can start or come off the bench and play consistent. The Lakers traded an undersized 2 guard and picks they got from the Wizards before for a 3 and D player with good size that can help them win now.

Adam Morrison hype, also from Gonzaga Bulldogs, didn't turn out great for Lakers. Hachimura's full debut 12p, 4r and 1 put up Ben Simmons' numbers but less assists.
I would give this move a B+ because it gives the Lakers some up size from the 3 to the 5 position, they had too many guards, and it gives guys like Lonnie Walker IV and Austin Reaves back to their primary position which is the 2 guard when they come back. So that balances out their roster. This is a good pickup.
I agree but I feel like they are still gonna need one more role player that can shoot and to even things out I feel like they should have went a little harder at the wizard and found a way to get kuzma too

I think this a good move on the low Nunn wasn't a factor being hurt 2 yrs in LA, Rui is a pf/sf which they needed was size & a shooter good pick up
Lakers now have a quality young player at the wing position without giving much up
True...but he can't guard wings. I don't think he can play big mins next to AD/Bron especially in playoff moments (assuming they make it) where teams have time to game plan. He's not a great distance shooter and defensively he doesn't upgrade them.

@@jerkkkkitlb I agree that he helps in that he's a talented young player, plus they gave up peanuts for him...but his efficiency will definitely take a hit with more volume and more high pressured moments, which he hasn't really had in DC. He's gonna get put in constant pick/roll action and Bron is also a P/R target for teams so I don't think Lakers will be able to hide him defensively if he gets big mins.

I think he’s going to help more then people think. He can play the 3, 4 and even the 5 against some teams. He will allow the Lakers to reduce LBJ minutes and AD also. The key is if AD can stay healthy. Defensively he makes them better because of his length, he has large wingspan 😊
Honestly, I know they need size but with him coming off the bench they can cut down a lot of leads or outright bury teams down the stretch without tiring out the starters.

Cavs in 2014/2015 season they were 19wins 20losses. They traded for mosgov, jr, and shump. Got lbj back from injury and they went on to win 50 games and make the finals. I like this for the Lakers. AD is back by Boston from what I'm hearing. And Rui won't be forced to create on this team he will be needed to pop n shoot. I love him in that role. I think Ham can help him improve defensively. Rui is 6'8" with a 7'2" wingspan. That can make him very disruptive if he gets better. He isn't however making his debut tonight. We gotta wait

If Hachimura had another year on his contract the Wizards wouldn't have made this deal. The Wizards are trying to give Kyle Kuzma his payday and they also have Deni Avdija that plays the same position.
This is a great opportunity for Rui to shine - so this should work out - we shouldn't so many guards on this squad, I see more of these guards getting offloaded.
I loved Nunn in the Heat but damn did he let me down when he came to my side. Hope to see him succeed in this league but I’m happy with this trade.

I've watched Hachimura play for some years now...he's a MAJOR UPGRADE for the Lakers! The only issue will be if how they CHOOSE to use him in the LE-SYSTEM. If they turn him into another Kevin Love, Chris Bosh type of LE-3 POINT SHOOTER then you are not using him to his fullest potential. But, he should give some help upfront with AD on the boards and in the paint...and he does love to play DEFENSE so that's a plus. Rui can ball and he's FEARLESS so that should be a plus. Great pickup by the Lakers. Carry On...

Any other year you can look at this maybe as a "meh" trade, but the Lakers at 22/25 are only 2 games out of the 6 seed and 4 games out from the 3😳. Hachimura now allows them to put Reaves and Lonnie Walker back at their natural 2 positions and perfectly balances the roster. Rui is young, athletic, makes a lot corner 3s, can post up and not a bad defender..Nunn was playing better lately but this is the kind of trade I have been hoping for..
Nah, I have zero regrets with Nunn being out. Especially after that heart attack of a Grizzlies game. I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors but the Lakers didn’t lose much when it comes to his play, I’ll tell you that.
