Great how to video. With regards to a pistol, Florida law allows open carry(has to be open carry and can be loaded and chambered) while going to, coming from and while hunting and fishing. Not sure of the statue that its under but just for FYI. I leave mine in a holster unracked and in a compartment just for safety purproses. I just bought stuff from John this year, good guy and the stuff works with half the price of Gator Pro or the like.

Hey guys... best video on the subject by far! This will be my first year, but I'm a fast learner and usually get it right round one. One thing I'd like to know though, that can only be gained from EXPERIENCE, is using the time-slots to your advantage. For instance, if you get a week 4 pick, for an area that gets tons of people and pressure, like Lake O south @ 144 permits for example... what are your thoughts on just waiting it out??? I understand the argument to go right away might be A) the monster gator im after may get taken if I wait... and B) they will all be wary/hiding after 3 weeks of hunting pressure.... but what about giving them 6 weeks off, and purposely going say the last week of October? Obviously I could simply keep going til I find the gator I want, but in regards to what you mention about hunting etiquette, id just assume NOT be anywhere near morons who will run over my bait line, or being out with tons of other boats. So if I wait 6 weeks til the very end, and avoid the "beginning surge".... do you guys feel you'd still have an equal chance of picking up a large gator that late in the season? I imagine most people full their tags early? Juuuuuuust curious... thanks for the time... Chris

I do not feel the time of season matters. If you can kill them early you can kill them late. If you can kill them at night, you can kill them during the day. If I had a preference I would choose late season because the weather is MUCH nicer in mid/late October!

The “laws” on having a pistol out are ridiculous. For safety if nothing else you should have one on you. Especially when you’re licensed to carry in almost every other situation. Our laws are pitiful in this instance.
