Trixie, our African pied crow, loves getting little trinkets and toys. She likes to collect them and show them off! But her favorite part of getting a gift is the unwrapping part... really anything involving destruction.

I love how she didn’t want to leave her rock unattended while she opened her gift. That proves that she cares about her trinkets! Plus, she’s smart so I think she would just ignore the presents if she didn’t care. She knows the drill, she will know if the gift contains food before opening it!

@darkwingswildlife i love that!! I had a crow singing to me to day and I was able to record it I was blown away never heard a corvid make that sound
Also I thought the present was a garlic clove at first

I have seen where crows give gifts to people who befriend and feed them. Seeing how this crow values it’s treasures shows that the crows that give gifts are being generous and thoughtful with their gift giving.

Have you ever thought of giving her an ice cube to see what she would do with it? At the beginning it reminded me of some of the Blue Jays that I feed I will throw a handful of peanuts out there and they try so hard to get both them at the same time

my grandfather told me a story of a crow he knew as a kid , it was a wild one
the crow came to the backyard once just staring and looking at everybody there , so my grandfather walked up to him and gave him some food
3 days later the crow came back and dropped a shiny rock
so he gave him food again and every time the crow kept coming back with something different as a trade
so my grandfather gave him some new food every time
it turned into a trading deal lasting 7 years xD
