I recently discovered Taylor's videos; and I was not expecting what she can do... I'm a pretty compassionate man, I'm a Christian; and psychology has always been a side interest of mine. I say this because her passion for understanding how deep we are, why we do the things we do; and desire for helping others has made me cry atleast a dozen times now. These are tears of Joy. Metallica got me through releasing the anger from a severely abusive childhood. Master of puppets and King Nothing we're pivotal in my release. To hear her explain the very realizations I went through as a young adult was absolutely spot on; and I'm hoping Taylor sees this. She is a genius in my opinion; and watching her feel and react to these songs is refreshing. She needs to know that she is doing a great job! Thank you for being here for us.

You fucking nailed it. From what I've read, the whole song is representative of a drug trip. The beautiful part that slowly leads to the building represents the initial injection of the drug of choice. You get the euphoria for just a little bit. Then, the cravings start (the buildup). That explosion is the manic part of the trip, where the drug has worn off and chaos comes back. It's a cry for help where the puppet sees no escape and is questioning the lies it was told. This is so fun to sing at karaoke. It's just awkward standing on stage while the instrumentals play out.

Wonderful stuff! 🙂 It's quite traumatic for me to hear young moshers say that they don't know much Metallica though 😆. This band paved the way for pretty much all metal we hear today. But to understand why you need to listen to them from their heydays in the 80s. I totally agree with the comments, below, that to really FEEL this song an earlier version is better. I also second the calls for Fade to Black. It's THE go-to Metallica song for lyrics about mental health. The album version is raw and powerful. I highly highly recommend it. I've seen 100s of comments from metal fans about how it saved or changed their lives. And it still makes me cry, 40 years later. Love what you do here! ❤

Something im wanting tobpoint outbis even the solos are a eepresebtation of this addiction. The first is slow and mellow to represent the addicted riding that high. Then the second is faster and chaotic. Representing the feelings of withdrawal and the beed for that high again.

the soft guitar part is the high you feel when you take the drugs, slowly fading and you fall back into needing more. thats why the music starts to get more and more aggressive, the lyrics after that are kinda desperation and disappointment. edit the master is the drugs and the puppets are the ppl using it btw for ppl that dont understand :)

If you don't know the history of Metallica, they had the nickname Alcohollica. James didn't realize that when he wrote this song that it was about addiction until years after. Metallica has a bibliography of amazing songs with meaningful lyrics. Songs about childhood trauma, death and loss, addiction. It's why they will remain as my favorite metal band. They along with other bands are actually why I'm still here. I have schizophrenia and tried unaliving myself several times. Without music and writing the poetry I don't think I would still be here. If you need help please get help, don't do what I did. Ask for help, there is someone out there that will help you. I can't say it will pass or you will get over it. But with the correct tools in place you will find happiness and love.
The song is a perfect portrayal of Narcissistic Abuse involving emotional manipulation. It evokes the confusion and helplessness one feels when in an emotionally abusive relationship. Music is the secret power, a gift you can draw resilience and courage from to get out of the madness of emotional abuse.
LOVE your channel. The entire album was about various masters to puppets. This song served 2 purposes since it is also the name of the album. Yes, this is about drugs and the "pretty portion" of the song is about taking the drugs and enjoying the trip. But all the other songs are masters too: military sending you to die, religion, mental health system, irrational fear.... All the other songs are masters too if you listen to them in the main theme of the album. So is the album cover art.
@heartsupport Taylor the entire mast of puppets album was about James’s mother believing that the church of Scientology would save her, she gave so much and in the end lost her son. This was jame’s outlet for his father walking out and the way the church treated his mother and how the church told him and her what they could and couldn’t do.
It’s hard for me to watch Metallica reactions because of personal experience with seeing them live but I love what you do Taylor so I’m at least here to give some support as best I can. The 'addiction' can also be to mental addiction to something like a cult, deserving of abuse but hating it, etc. I might not remember correct, but in the past I think I remember why the song has 'phases': the first is because the addict 'needs more', the 2nd is the addict getting the 'fix', then the 3rd realization the 'why do I do this! i know this is bad' followed by 4) the closing act. The arrangement of the song can be attributed to the phases 9f drug addiction. The first part is heavy and driving representing the want/need/search for the drug. The second part that is clean and beautiful is the taking of the drug. It's peacful and serene. Then the third part is the out of control crash and frantic, anxiety of search for more. At least that's how I see it.
When I finally kicked my opioid habit that I developed in college (haven't used opioid in 15 years now) and after a few years of adapting/recovering into an addiction free healthier lifestyle... I still occasionally missed aspects of that lifestyle in some kind of perverse way that I didn't understand at first (I was never an IV user which I think was a factor). Eventually I realized that a big part of it was just missing the constant action especially since I had to temporarily/permanently cut about a quarter of my social circle out of my life at the time and it took me awhile to find hobbies/activities that piqued my interest enough to replace all the time I had spent "partying". I also didn't realize how much I relied on drugs and alcohol allowed me to comfortably socialize in larger groups especially with people I didn't know. There's a reason why people call alcohol a social lubricant, but there's a difference between 1-2 drinks on social occasions every few weeks and getting drunk every time you go out. In smaller group settings or when I knew most of the people around me I was perfectly comfortable and even thrived socially without any need for drugs/alcohol, but it took me awhile to learn how to be that comfortable and occasionally uninhibited enough to have a little fun acting/looking "foolish" (like dancing and singing all of the words to the songs at a concert by myself) without drugs/alcohol to help silence my overthinking and overly pessimistic inner critic. The ritual is one of the reasons addictions can be so difficult to quit. Like I said I would have perverse almost nostalgic moments about chopping up lines of oxycontin and for years almost every time I opened my wallet the smell of dollar bills ignited sensory memory (that still occasionally happens 15 years later). After years of therapy, finally getting an ADHD diagnosis and proper treatment (I had a 4.0 GPA from primary school through my Masters Degree in Teacher Leadership/Development Psychology and apparently kids with ADHD who do well academically are commonly under diagnosed even if they display the vast majority of the potential behavioral issues associated with the disorder)... I finally started to understand some of the why behind these behaviors I found so confusing. Delving into Jungian psychology in the same year I started practicing secular meditation allowed me to gain so much insight into the parts of the human experience and human behavior that I found so puzzling. I also did psychedelic assisted therapy around that time which I'm sure played a part because it provided perspective in addition to neuroplasticity... I feel like it's important to mention that as someone who is a "recovering addict", however this was strictly medicinal even though I was excited about having the experience. Apologies for all of the elliptical asides although I am now properly treated for my ADHD it really helps, but doesn't eliminate feeling like I need to over explain which I just realized is what I'm doing right now so I'll end on that note. If you got this far I hope you found something about my comment interesting or meaningful or relatable...
You should consider "The Poet and The Pendulum" by Nightwish (live in Wembly, 2015 is the best version). The writer fired the band's singer and got a lot of backlash from friends and fans for it. It was so bad that he contemplated suicide (this is the simple version of the story lol). He kills himself in the song to save his life in reality. It's very long (about 13ish minutes) but is very well written and Floor Jansen (the band's third and current singer) is one of the greatest vocalists of all time. It truly is a masterpiece.
It would be really cool for you, to go and just watch the live performance of this song in 2024 in Munich Germany. It is posted on the official metallica CZcams channel, this song is performed in the pouring rain. There is standing water on the floor all over them on the instruments and they still executed to perfection. Yo, a Through the Never watch-through, but have her in a room with a big screen and a sound system/speakers. Recently, i been thinking of the lyrics from Halo on Fire, they’ve just been hitting me in a “yeah, that’s true” way, and chokes me up for whomever feels that way.

Please remember that this was written very early in their career and it was at a time Metallica was known as Alcholica. This song was just about cocaine addiction but over the years it was seen to cover all drug addiction. They weren't in sobriety was this was written. the video she's watching has the new view of the song's meaning. Like Tool Opiate version 2
You have yet to react to any Megadeth on your channel. Allow me to suggest a few songs. First, 'In My Darkest Hour', about being in a bad relationship. Do not watch the official video for 'In My Darkness Hour. The video was edited as parts were used in a movie during the late 80's. A lyric video would be better. Second, 'Sweating Bullets'. Even though the office video is 50 seconds shorter, it is a masterpiece and must see. This song touches on mental illness. Third, 'Addicted to Chaos'. This song is about losing someone who was a help before and now dealing with the loss. There are many more great Megadeth songs but I think these are a good start.

Wonderful stuff! 🙂 It's quite traumatic for me to hear young moshers say that they don't know much Metallica though 😆. This band paved the way for pretty much all metal we hear today. But to understand why you need to listen to them from their heydays in the 80s. I totally agree with the comments, below, that to really FEEL this song an earlier version is better. I also second the calls for Fade to Black. It's THE go-to Metallica song for lyrics about mental health. The album version is raw and powerful. I highly highly recommend it. I've seen 100s of comments from metal fans about how it saved or changed their lives. And it still makes me cry, 40 years later. Love what you do here! ❤

Something im wanting tobpoint outbis even the solos are a eepresebtation of this addiction. The first is slow and mellow to represent the addicted riding that high. Then the second is faster and chaotic. Representing the feelings of withdrawal and the beed for that high again.

the soft guitar part is the high you feel when you take the drugs, slowly fading and you fall back into needing more. thats why the music starts to get more and more aggressive, the lyrics after that are kinda desperation and disappointment. edit the master is the drugs and the puppets are the ppl using it btw for ppl that dont understand :)

If you don't know the history of Metallica, they had the nickname Alcohollica. James didn't realize that when he wrote this song that it was about addiction until years after. Metallica has a bibliography of amazing songs with meaningful lyrics. Songs about childhood trauma, death and loss, addiction. It's why they will remain as my favorite metal band. They along with other bands are actually why I'm still here. I have schizophrenia and tried unaliving myself several times. Without music and writing the poetry I don't think I would still be here.
If you need help please get help, don't do what I did. Ask for help, there is someone out there that will help you. I can't say it will pass or you will get over it. But with the correct tools in place you will find happiness and love.
The song is a perfect portrayal of Narcissistic Abuse involving emotional manipulation. It evokes the confusion and helplessness one feels when in an emotionally abusive relationship. Music is the secret power, a gift you can draw resilience and courage from to get out of the madness of emotional abuse.

LOVE your channel. The entire album was about various masters to puppets. This song served 2 purposes since it is also the name of the album. Yes, this is about drugs and the "pretty portion" of the song is about taking the drugs and enjoying the trip. But all the other songs are masters too: military sending you to die, religion, mental health system, irrational fear.... All the other songs are masters too if you listen to them in the main theme of the album. So is the album cover art.

@heartsupport Taylor the entire mast of puppets album was about James’s mother believing that the church of Scientology would save her, she gave so much and in the end lost her son. This was jame’s outlet for his father walking out and the way the church treated his mother and how the church told him and her what they could and couldn’t do.

Metallica is very special to me. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for there music. They have gotten me through some dark times. The song Fade to Black has gotten me through alot. The 'addiction' can also be to mental addiction to something like a cult, deserving of abuse but hating it, etc. I might not remember correct, but in the past I think I remember why the song has 'phases': the first is because the addict 'needs more', the 2nd is the addict getting the 'fix', then the 3rd realization the 'why do I do this! i know this is bad' followed by 4) the closing act. The arrangement of the song can be attributed to the phases 9f drug addiction. The first part is heavy and driving representing the want/need/search for the drug. The second part that is clean and beautiful is the taking of the drug. It's peacful and serene. Then the third part is the out of control crash and frantic, anxiety of search for more. At least that's how I see it.

I've been through this
When I finally kicked my opioid habit that I developed in college (haven't used opioid in 15 years now) and after a few years of adapting/recovering into an addiction free healthier lifestyle... I still occasionally missed aspects of that lifestyle in some kind of perverse way that I didn't understand at first (I was never an IV user which I think was a factor). Eventually I realized that a big part of it was just missing the constant action especially since I had to temporarily/permanently cut about a quarter of my social circle out of my life at the time and it took me awhile to find hobbies/activities that piqued my interest enough to replace all the time I had spent "partying".
I also didn't realize how much I relied on drugs and alcohol allowed me to comfortably socialize in larger groups especially with people I didn't know. There's a reason why people call alcohol a social lubricant, but there's a difference between 1-2 drinks on social occasions every few weeks and getting drunk every time you go out. In smaller group settings or when I knew most of the people around me I was perfectly comfortable and even thrived socially without any need for drugs/alcohol, but it took me awhile to learn how to be that comfortable and occasionally uninhibited enough to have a little fun acting/looking "foolish" (like dancing and singing all of the words to the songs at a concert by myself) without drugs/alcohol to help silence my overthinking and overly pessimistic inner critic.
The ritual is one of the reasons addictions can be so difficult to quit. Like I said I would have perverse almost nostalgic moments about chopping up lines of oxycontin and for years almost every time I opened my wallet the smell of dollar bills ignited sensory memory (that still occasionally happens 15 years later).
After years of therapy, finally getting an ADHD diagnosis and proper treatment (I had a 4.0 GPA from primary school through my Masters Degree in Teacher Leadership/Development Psychology and apparently kids with ADHD who do well academically are commonly under diagnosed even if they display the vast majority of the potential behavioral issues associated with the disorder)... I finally started to understand some of the why behind these behaviors I found so confusing. Delving into Jungian psychology in the same year I started practicing secular meditation allowed me to gain so much insight into the parts of the human experience and human behavior that I found so puzzling. I also did psychedelic assisted therapy around that time which I'm sure played a part because it provided perspective in addition to neuroplasticity... I feel like it's important to mention that as someone who is a "recovering addict", however this was strictly medicinal even though I was excited about having the experience.
Apologies for all of the elliptical asides although I am now properly treated for my ADHD it really helps, but doesn't eliminate feeling like I need to over explain which I just realized is what I'm doing right now so I'll end on that note. You should consider "The Poet and The Pendulum" by Nightwish (live in Wembly, 2015 is the best version). The writer fired the band's singer and got a lot of backlash from friends and fans for it. It was so bad that he contemplated suicide (this is the simple version of the story lol). He kills himself in the song to save his life in reality. It's very long (about 13ish minutes) but is very well written and Floor Jansen (the band's third and current singer) is one of the greatest vocalists of all time. It truly is a masterpiece.

This song was just about cocaine addiction but over the years it was seen to cover all drug addiction. You have yet to react to any Megadeth on your channel. Allow me to suggest a few songs. First, 'In My Darkest Hour', about being in a bad relationship. Do not watch the official video for 'In My Darkness Hour. The video was edited as parts were used in a movie during the late 80's. A lyric video would be better. Second, 'Sweating Bullets'. Even though the office video is 50 seconds shorter, it is a masterpiece and must see. This song touches on mental illness. Third, 'Addicted to Chaos'. This song is about losing someone who was a help before and now dealing with the loss. There are many more great Megadeth songs but I think these are a good start.
