When you're asked to solo but there's no chord transcription in the sheets:
This
Pov me yesterday
Nice spelling lol
Yr right that is really annoying tho lamo
Nigga whats with your goofy ahh spelling
This man's lungs go all the way down to his toes
Thanks
Circular breathing is hax lmao
There's a neat trick they do where they hold the not qnd breath at the same time.
The crazy thing is - his lungs are normal. It's all technique - which makes it way more impressive
clarinet also just doesn't require a whole lot of lung capacity, trust me on this
No wonder it’s called Dead Man Blues, that clarinet showed no mercy to that note. Straight up killed it, and brought it back to life multiple times just to kill it again. Amazing!
no it's called like that cuz other people who tried to hold the note for so long died from the lack of oxygen
Okay but the washboard player is absolutely laying it down!
I'm honestly coming back to this video more for the washboard than the clarinet. He must have that on some sort of resonator (maybe a washtub to keep things thematic?) to get a sound that clear and cutting. I'm nearly pulling a muscle trying not to make cleaning puns here, and I hope you appreciate it.
He be playing that central air filter
The magic of circular breathing
Don’t know why this is not as impressive when I do this on the piano…
UNDERRATED COMMENT LOL
You and I picked the wrong instrument - our directors will never be satisfied 😆
😂😂😂
@@SuperNovaBass73 Wooosh: the sound of a joke flying over your head
0:10 that one mosquito in your room that keeps lingering around
I thought this was gonna be one of those honking solos but it really is just one note. Nice.
When you have to solo but you're a goose
@@jkid1134 Yeah it pretty much was that - look up "Worst Jazz Solo of All Time" by Adam Neely.
Hey nice profile pic
His vibrato on that note was almost perfect triplet eight notes
Oh dang. You right. That’s some talent. Some real consistency.
Oh dang. You right. That’s some talent. Some real consistency.
Yep, I was completely vibing on that triplet pulse as he was holding it
I love that His Vibratos are triplets
is that why it's called the Dead Man Blues?
Man turns a black piece of wood and metal into an electrifying soul machine!
can we talk about anything other than the big note? like the gliss where you can't tell he's changing keys at all?
There’s no way he’s actually changing keys gotta be some trick
Fantastic...the full original is well worth watching. You don't see much washboard playing these days.
Thanks again, George.
Circular breathing is cool but that gliss was s o c l e a n
Probably made a bet with a friend to see how long he could hold the note
some say he's still holding that note to this day
I can't get enough of New Orleans jazz. Victor is amazing.
I love those guys in the background being like "yeah hold it dude"
I am gobsmacked. Great playing and holy smokes circular breathing!
Sitting through that solo would be so awquark.
Seeing these clarinet transcriptions makes me want to play again
Incredible.
0:50 best seagull's impression i've heard.
I remember once doing an "Entertainment" item at the regional Brass Band championships, where there was a 16 bar solo for the soprano player.
Every time we rehearsed he'd give us some new, wonderful interpretation. The guy is truly a phenomenal player.
On stage, however, he may have been... Shall we say half-cut? Cue solo. 12 bar trill, with a disguised 4-bar lick. I don't think the conductor was very pleased by that, but everyone in the band still laughs about it.
The circular breathing is mad!
omg i love victor goines thank you
Oh yeaaaahhhh this is that one breathing technique where you push air with your mouth so you can inhale but never stop playing. I can’t remember the name for it! It’s always sounded so cool but I’ve never seen it in action!! Seriously awesome. And he executed it pretty dang flawlessly!!
Circular breathing?
Circular breathing
The way that long note ended with a slide was so great. Never heard playing quite like this
When you only need one note
Washboard transcription when
Best comment.
Super impressive glissando!
CIRCULAR BREATHING PEOPLE!!!
I actually really liked that
Amazing 😮
I knew Johnny ramone liked jazz as well
Why is this actually fire
When your vibrato is the solo
circular breathing is the bane of my existence.
when you only know 1 note, but its a damn good one
The mosquito in my ear at 2 am :
My man's gliss cleaner than the thoughts of a monastery
thats a nice mosquito
Non-clarinet players don’t realize that the Gliss after the LONNNNG hold actually takes more air than the note before it.
The end sounded like a seagull lmao
Sounded like a really pissed off cat
I lost my breath just watching him play that note, sheesh.
Jazz clarinet is a whole other lever
Dood went tooot.
I transcribe that one for my class! You get in trouble for playing like that in classical.
How tf he glis like that
Good old circular breathing
What an absolute flex. “Oh, you think soloing is about playing a bunch of fancy notes? Nah, you’ll get one note and you’ll like it!”
Windows has encountered a fatal error and needs to restart.
god bless his soul
I don't know much about jazz but this reminds me of Everybody Wants To Be a Cat
How does someone do this without squeaking is my question
Wait when it changed to F7 that was strangely satisfying tho
Nice
Triplet vibrato hurts my tongue to think about
nice
Reminds me of the saxophone God Kenny G destroying giant steps
i gotta learn cyclic breathing
New Orleans wants to know your location
I can play that high when I squeak by accident
When your video is sponsored by one note
This guy was like: "That's a nice note. You know what? I like it, let's keep going"
Only 1 note?
Im reminded of one of my favorite Miles Davis tunes----So What!
circular breathing? I can do that but you need strong cheek muscles to do it on a clarinet, and i wasnt ever able to do it on a bassoon
Nasty 🥵
omg !!!!
Is it standard for the chord symbols not to be transposing when the notes in the part are?
Or does my genuine question just look really passive-aggressive?
idk it's not very useful for chords to be in a different key to the performer's music
I need to learn circular breathing lmao
If Tom Hanks was a black clarinetist.
Bro how is it, that everyone from my german music university knows you?😂 You've become world famous!!
0:30 what…. How….. how
He might’ve held that one note for about 6 measures but it was still nasty. Takes some skill to put stank on a sustain
i need some bass clarinet solos
When the clarinet summons ufos
(Bc solo)
HOF circular breathing
Marsalis
Y'all'd enjoy Dave Bartholomew's "Basin Street Breakdown" if you like this
For the algorithm. ✊
1000th like!
They care more about the washboard than the clarinet solo 😅
what is the name of the instrument thats just shotgun shells on your fingers hitting a metal board
Does he have a fish gills behind his ears like Kevin Costner in Waterworld?
Damn I can only go for 12 bests at max on clarinet how tf he do this 😭💀
When you teacher said less is more the class before, but actually you happened to forget the licks you practice the night before gig:
😂
what genre of music is this?
He played more than one note
breath support 100
So we're all ignoring the washboard then?
POG
what a...?????
This man trained by swimming to the ocean floor, then walking across it.
Bro is demonstrating the top tier skill of circular breathing. For the normies out there, you basically create an "infinite" air supply in your cheeks, but dole it out carefully under pressure. Then, you can re-supply as needed.
Why's he coming for Doreen Ketchens? 🤣
is that an A clarinet?
is it called Dead Man Blues because it kills lesser men?
how did he do that transition from measure 15-16? whats that called at 0:31
I know how to do it on a trumpet, clarinet I have nooo idea, I’d assume that he’s bending pitch with his jaw and may be pressing some buttons halfway
smearing one finger off at a time and bending the pitch with throat and tongue
It's called a glissando
It's called JAZZZZ Karen
