About The Ark:
THE ARK takes place 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. The first of these missions on a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event causing massive destruction and loss of life. With more than a year left to go before reaching their target planet, a lack of life-sustaining supplies and loss of leadership, the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive.

It will run for a season and then it will unceremoniously dumped by SyFy. The creators will then tweet during summer that the network chose not to renew in order to show more fake wrestling

I started watching this last week and it got me hook up. Just finished watching Episode 2 of Season 2 yesterday. I believe I started liking this series because it reminds me of the shows I love in the 90s like Stargate(both SG1 and Atlantis) and Star Trek Voyager. It has the proper mix of humor, suspense, less depressing characters and situations and less to no swearing like my favorite shows.
Can we have 1 Emotional Stable space crew for once, please???
And who look like they have at least made it past 30.

Not really. This doesn't look anything like "The 100" nor is the plot anything like "The 100." It seems a lot more like the movie Passengers, with Jennifer Lawarence and Chris Pratt, only with a lot more people waking up than just 2.
I could only watch one episode of 100, and that was a labor. It was like they chose a bunch of models to be the main cast. I have no interest when they try and compensate for poor writing like that.

On a journey to a new planet...where space is never at a greater premium...meet the intrepid explorers who keep their cryo pods 30 feet apart with a basketball stadium of empty space above them...

Want I want: The wold's smartest engineers/ scientist to act like rational engineers/ scientist to solve complex problems in the face of death. the best of humanity.
What it will likely be: Immature, anxiety-filled child adults with emotional baggage about everything conquer complex problems miraculously at the last minute of every episode.
Cancellation will be announced two weeks after final episodes, unless it’s dropped all at once, just won’t show up in next years schedule in that case. Honestly surprised SyFy has hung around this long, been getting mad “shell of a company” vibes since 2013/14. Does it even exist outside of a brand these days?

Really? I can't recall the last time SyFy cancelled a good show before the first season ended. In fact, I can't recall the last time SyFy cancelled a good show in less than 3 seasons. That's a much better track record than most. Networks frequently cancel good shows more quickly as do most streamers, especially Netflix.
@@c.lvr2602 I assume you're referring to The Expanse. They gave The Expanse 3 seasons, which comprised more episodes than Amazon gave it, before cancelling it. They gave Stargate, BSG and many other series long runs. Dark Matter had 4 seasons. The facts simply do not support your opinion. SyFy actually has a better than average track record, compared to others, especially streaming services.

The only good actor in the whole series is the main female character [Christie Burke]. The remainder need to rethink their careers. The IMDb rating is now at 3.8/10, so not good.

Me too. Watching the first episodes of this made me think of the first few episodes of SGU. The parts where they needed air then water then water virus.
They should bring back defiance or Stargate honestly and just make good episodes of that or even something new like a mechwarrior star league era show plenty of potential in that on many levels
DUDE!! A well done Mechwarrior series would be awesome especially with all the intrigue living in a fractured post star league galaxy. Even as an anthology series that shows different points of what everyone thinks will be the last succession war. But alas, if attempted, they would probably mess it up and ignore the source material.

I am interested in this show. However, I do not have any faith left in SyFy. I have been burned far too many times by them. I get into a show only to find it canceled. I may check this one out but I am willing to wait and binge it later.

Just like the BBC "The Ark" tv series in the 70s. Same concept. A giant colony ship has disaster and command and control goes dark. Was a very good show. Hopefully this one will be also.
Imagine that this is almost the Return of Stargate Universe Season 3 that we never gotten.

The best scientists and engineers, who appear to barely be out of college and haven't had time to gain the experience to become the best in most fields they would need. Well the crew appears diverse and exclusive and the trailer focused on mainly the women. So it's hitting the check box's. Gives me CW vibes.

His channel explores so many science fiction topics that I've otherwise never seen explored outside of written fiction.

Yes that is what I noticed aswell on this series. I kind of makes me feel the Sci Fi shows of the 90s. Like the atmosphere reminds me mostly of Stargate Atlantis which is fun to watch.

OMG, when I saw it, I thought it was a fan-based trailer. This is for real!? My oh my, how far SYFY has fallen since The Expanse. Looks like all the SFX are draft versions/placeholders, that CAN'T be the real SFX, right? Say it ain't so!
Okay, now that I've seen the first episode, I can say that I'm not a huge fan of the wide shots of the ship, in particular. I think that's what makes the series look like it only had a $500 budget for special effects based on the trailer alone, but once you get past that, everything else looks good! The first 5 minutes of the show with the pods being destroyed was gawd-awful and felt like the special effects were done at the very last possible moment (like 12 hours before the premiere deadline)! The set pieces, practical effects, computer screens, and other details are pretty good, and I like the story and plots going on. But seriously, whoever was in charge of animating the ship should feel shame, SHAME I SAY! The cast is pretty solid but will take a little bit of getting used to. I feel like it's going to be a cross between Degrassi Galactic High meets The Real Housewives of Alpha Centauri. Basically, I can tell it's going to get real messy! 😝

it always amazes me how scifi shows today manage to look worse in terms of set design and special effects then 80s star trek, i suppose its my fault for even comparing them, but cmon.
raising parts of the floor to break up the monotony of the soundstage seems like a no brainer to me, packing the cryo pods a little tighter for the sake of realism, dropping a real aluminium beam on one would be both cheaper and look better then what i see here, idk anymore, its all very depressing to look at.
Have you watched The Expanse? Probably the most realistic depiction of space ive seen (they put a lot of effort into making the physics and logic of it as realistic as possible). Great series as well

@@countessboochieflagrante I'm glad they finished the current storyline. But the tease for the Strange Dogs storyline was so gutting cause it was teasing something so spectacular and we will never see it. I wish they just hadn't included it.

I didn't like it at first, especially the first episode. So I went in this comment section to check what people thought. Among many disapproving comments, I read a few saying it gets better after few episodes. And they were right! The show grew on me and I watched the 12 episodes really quick. I hope the second season gets even better.

The concept seems very interesting but "the world's most brilliant scientists" look like they're still in high school. First opinion is poor character casting, not something I'd go out of my way to watch.

Jonathan Glassner is SF born master ❤ after Sg1 become cult sf serie , Outpost was great but after i heard about The Ark and whos making it , in blind i was sure it will be his third great show and I guessed again after watching all 12 episodes. For me 8/10 for really very good sf show 👍👍👍👍👍👍
