If your not Irish it’s a difficult song to understand because it deals with the bitter hardships of Irelands Past. But the heart and spirit of the Pogues performances of this song is moving.,👍👍
I`m Aussie of Irish descent mate and i get it
pogues arnt from Ireland mate
@@finmcneill7835 But their style is.
@@finmcneill7835 And each one of them is of Irish descent. All trained in traditional Irish music also..you know, the glue that holds this band together (and with the audience) is so much to do with Ireland.
@@brazenlilhussy5975 Absolute rubbish. Fearnley, Stacey, Hunt, Finer and Ranken are all English. It seems people are hell bent on believing something that isn't true just to fit in with their own biases. Just love the music, who cares where the musicians come from.
Rainy night in soho by the pogues is one of the finest love songs shane ever wrote
Shane1916 Tunes you know it’s about waiting for the methadone clinics to open. I guess that’s what makes it great.
Shane is just a true poet..and musician thru and thru...he is such an influence on soooo many...
"Go to a Pogues concert - where the singer is more drunk than the audience." ;) I loved Pogues concerts, the mood was incredible. Very special.
So many Pogues concerts... Best was when Shane turned up wankered and swung the mike around and dropped himself. The whole floor moving as one.. just pogo'ing... Every concert was awesome.
I've seen the Pogues twice and Shane with the Popes once. When he was playing with the Popes, he actually stopped mid-song on about the 4th or 5th song into the set, roared all over the stage, mumbled something like "that feels better," and resumed the song.
Try one at the Barrowlands in Glasgow brother
seen them a few times, also when joe strummer was singing after sacking shane. i managed to loose both my sneakers, think one ended up on the stage . happy days.
"Is this deeper than I thought it was?" Yeah, the Pogues among other punk and folk-punk bands can tell very deep stories with music that just pushes you to feel something, and it can take a few listens to put it all together. There's a way to make art that comes from anger but still feels like a celebration because you survived, if that makes sense.
No one sings about the downtrodden and lost souls like Shane MacGowan.
When I was first introduced to the Pogues, my friend said, "You'll love it at first because the music is upbeat and catchy, and once you listen, you will love it because of what it says."
Awesome...It's pronounced Pogues, rhymes with rogues
Oh you mean rogeez.
@@MrTurner1973 Yeah like Ramoneez.
The pogues, it’s short for the Irish phrase “pog mo thoin” (pronounced poge muh hone)... meaning kiss my ass
@@michaelmaltzer5426 *arse
What do I think of The Pogues? I love them!! I saw them on this tour and it is easily in my top ten concerts.
all the pogues songs are wonderful, and to get another side of the story, you might like to try another song from them, it is called ""thousands are sailing"" an amazing song,
Try Turkish Song of the Damned with The Pogues. That song is heavier and more evil than Slayer.
The tempo change in 'Turkish Song' is amazing. The musicianship...just wow! And all on Christ knows how much whiskey.
Absolutely right my friend
Love me some Lorca's Novena
@@davidravitch Fine choice, sir!
@@ericambler486 just found out the lyrics are from an old Spanish (?) poem .. about a real person.
pooogeees .. that's so precious
Also, some other tunes you might like by The Pogues are 'The Broad Majestic Shannon' and 'Thousands Are Sailing' and 'Tuesday Morning'.
He is truly one of the most songwriters ever his life was caught up in drugs and alcohol but he is the most amazing songwriter.
I was lucky enough to see The Pogues live, absolutley amazing group.Shane is a poet and a legend.Respect to you from the Uk
If you want a different type of feel with another Pogues song you should do "Thousands are Sailing" and at Christmas time try "Fairytale of New York".
howcanibesowet So far she’s done 4-5 Pogues songs including Fairytale of New York. She did it on Christmas Day I believe.
yes, more pogues
Awesome group, love their music.
You haven't got to two classic songs yet India. Dirty old Town, a great love song & The band played Walzing Matilda a real emotional anti war song. It's Pogues rhymes with rouges.
'The Band Played...' makes me cry. It's such a sad tale of too many wasted lives.
@@bobmarlowe3390 Me too, most anti war songs are just about how bad war is but this adds the personal experience & trauma that affects the individuals whole life.
I was waiting for this one. Great choice! The Stranglers - Golden Brown would be a great reaction.
Golden brown and no more heroes, good tunes
@@macker33 YES
hell yes.
This album is one of the top ten of all time.
Always loved that song.....
Check up "Young Ned of The Hill". It's a song about an event in Irish history where they were forced by the English army to leave their lands or die.
One if my favourites!
There is a sardonic, ironic, comedic, tragic Irish sensibility that you have to get to appreciate the lyrics of a song like this - it's more about feeling than meaning, if you know what I mean. You'll drive yourself crazy if try to understand it in a logical way ... ! You're a real sport for trying this stuff out, btw!
The pouges is a great band... do sally maclennane
This song is so insanely brilliant...
Shane McGowan of the pogues is probably one of the greatest song writers ever.
The Irish. Singing about misery in the most cheerful way. Circa 5th - 8th Century A.D.
You need to listen to the album rum sodemy and the lash By the pogues. Shane is the greatest song writer to come out of Ireland.. love your channel.
R.I.P Shane , thanks for your music
You haven't heard The Pogues... it's short for Pogue Mahone, but the record label wouldn't let them use this - on account of it's translation... until you've heard Fairytale of New York!
Thanks for checking out the Pogues!
You are a very intelligent young lady
I am very impressed by the way you analyze each song
For someone your age, I think it is incredible your level of understanding of the hidden meaning of music
He sings for us. All of us. Bless you Shane.
brilliant rock n roll band the pogues. one of their best as well. listen to rainy night in soho. you can barely tell it's the same group
It's like a sailor's shanty.
The Pogues are my Favorite Band! Coming from a very irish background! 🍀
God bless this woman. A Scotsman loves her!
U gotta react to Rainy Night In Soho. Definitely one of the best Pogues songs
Woohoo! Celtic Punk! lapsed irish catholics lol. It's the Irish love of the land, Kattie Scarlett!
The band played waltzing Matilda was his best vocal performance.
Great beat that will get ya up off the couch.👍🏼. Well the Catholic’s and Protestant and have been fighting for decades and it’s very long and deep subject.
The lead singer (Shane McGowan) sings the big number one Christmas song (the fairytale of New York) with Kirsty McColl who sadly died 2000 aged 41 in Mexico.
Nailed it
Soooooo many awesome songs you can try next, been a fan since Red Roses for Me in '84. Shane is a lyrical genius :)
Back when Shane had teeth that didn't come from a glass!
You should watch the Movie P.S I Love You, their music is used to great affect in that movie.
It's singing about Ireland - This land was always ours was the proud land of our fathers. It's singing about the effects of occupation of the land. The dispossessed those who fought - those who were transported away on ships.
Bitter, voluptuous, mystical, joyous … A very Irish combo. Plus that scream of Shane’s: that’s the Devil, baby. We’re going to hell.
Shaun has something in his voice and singing that so special. That’s a silent e on the pronunciation pogues.
Long "o", hard "g", like "road"
Folk punk at its best. Try Dirty Old Town. Shane McGowan one of the greats.
I just love the "Pogeeees"
would listen to this back in the 90s...and then play metallica right after 🙂
This song is very Irish. Basically it's about the people who felt that they were the forgotten ones, abandon by God and had nothing to lose.
I Love You Til The End my favorite song from the Pogues and no one has ever reacted to it
Ah, sometimes you gotta forget Ireland and just enjoy the music! Ah shite,
I'm In trouble now!
I think the Catholic imagery in the song doesn't come out of actual stong religiosity as such...it's more a case that the images and symbols we (Irish catholics) absorbed from birth are often used for artistic or poectic reasons at a later stage in life. This was v true for people like James Joyce etc.
Wow....talk about missing the point. I just found your reaction 3 years later after Shane MacGowan died. Basically it deals with the English violations of the Irish throughout history but it can also be taken literally. Sailors of old were buried at sea, and since there was no grave stone the spirits they wronged could not haunt them. Ireland's soil is sod and that does not break down the bodies of the dead well, etc.
thank you for this one girl! xxx
peace x
I guess it's the right time to request that you check out rudy can't fail by the clash
pogues like rouges!!! we irish outlaws grew up on them n his solo stuff he's a fuckin legend!!!!
Your Rock! Keep doing what you do.
I grew up with the pogues.
His lyrics .
"Remember Pogues? They're back! In poo-jee form"
Sod rhymes with God and Pogues is pronounced like rogues.
U2 might be the most popular band ☆from☆ Ireland, but the Pogues are the most popular band ☆in☆ Ireland.
Also this is not live lmao it's the album song over I've footage
Did you ever wonder why people from Jamaica have Irish surnames? Peter Tosh is Peter Macintosh.
Would love for you to react to luke Kelly " raglan road" beautiful song..
Check out the Sick Bed oc Cuchulainn, about a man on his death bed. Beautiful and sad.
Check out The Pogues & The Dubliners performing The Irish Rover.
Yeeeeeeeessssss!
Girl ever get the chance come to Ireland
Drinking theme take me down in the mod when the rivers all run dry
Have a listen to amazulu. too good to be forgotten. Lol
The po-jeeeez aaaahahahahahaha
ye wanna know irish indie? my opinion isnumber 1luke kellt shane ouv the poges is my second, both poets, irish warrior here
Irish history is required for an understanding of their music. Pre Good Friday Peace Accord (from mid 1990s) Irish history more specifically.
Shane calls himself a Taoist catholic
A Celtic/punk style band from London.
Comin up threes boys!
They took their name from the Irish expression póg mo thóin means kiss my ass.
Estas frente a un genio
you're great and i like that you look stuff up but damn POEGEES???? they started out as "pogue mahone"
india if ye can try Luke Kelly - Scorn Not His Simplicity ,The best poet in Ireland with many many more tunes, mellow and dagnerous
With all due respect... HAVE NOT GOT A ff'kin CLUE Whats going on!! but still love your reaction... it's filth & love!
You should listen to "Birminghiam Six".
Great choice! Make a react to Wreckin' Crew, by The Meteors
It's pronounced poges ...Not pogies . Their original name was Pogue Mahone. Irish Galic for Kiss my A$$ ... But Record labels weren't ready for that.
Dirt Old Town by the Pogues is my favourite
Ur poster in the background looks very irish
Shane Magowan, Mike Scott and.... all the others....
The Pogues (pronounced 'Poges' the O as in 'O4h') singing 'Waltzing Matilda' about the disastrous Gallipolli attack in World War 1 or The Waterboys singing 'A Man Is In Love' (he could have been singing about you 😃)
Get more Gael girl! ❤
React to sickbed of cuchallain please
Nice spelling
Actually it is not pronounced like Pogees it´s just pronounced like Pougs...actually the name derives from the galic phrase "Póg mo thóin" anglicized respectively pronounced alike "Pogue Mahone" and it means "Kiss my ass" which punctuates Shane McGowen´s (=the singer and mind of the band) Punk-culture mindset.
You should try the track "Medley"..it´s an very energetic song where the people used to sing and dance like crazy on their concerts back then in the 80ties..
Go listen to 'Boys from the County Hell'... (Love your reviews!)
The Pogues not to be confused with the Bee Gees.
Fairly tail of New York
It's pronounced The P-owe-gs as in the word "owe"
Rainy night in soho
Check out "I am a man you don't meet everyday".
