- It was an emotional Little Big Shots Sunday night, as Melissa McCarthy surprised a wheelchair dancer named Mayli Gibson. Mayli was born with spina bifida, causing paralysis in the lower half of her body, but that hasn’t stopped her from living a full life. As Mayli says, “I can do anything that I want to, I just do it a little different."
Mayli is a big fan of the wheelchair dance group The Rollettes, so Melissa surprised her with a visit from group member Chelsie Hill. Chelsie even performed a duet dance with Mayli.
After the dance, Melissa gave Mayli and her family a check for $10,000. And later, backstage, Melissa and her husband Ben Falcone surprised some of the members of The Rollettes by pledging 10 scholarships for the groups dance classes. That way more kids like Mayli will get a chance to dance.
The entire segment was emotional. Melissa appeared to be a little teary-eyed and there was a noticeable shake in her voice. Fans on Twitter were also overwhelmed with happy tears.
