When I initially heard about the larger / 2 hand personal tractor beam, I was hoping that it was be able to have a function like a grappling hook for the player in areas with gravity, similar to how the multi-tool version could help players move around inside places with no gravity. Perhaps CIG will grant us that functionality someday.
I tested within gravity and was not able to move like that, does not mean it cannot or at least won't get some of that functionality in the future! Backers who want to see this happen can point to it being balanced by taking up a large weapon slot on your back to carry it around, so you gain more mobility at expense of other weapons or other future 2-handed tools.
I know you can do it in squadron! Since it was in the trailer, lol.
no. But we will get ropes
@@RedJayDid you press B on it to switch modes?
7:00 but you only tested 1 guy with it.
The SRV can use multiple people in multiple SRV's to tug heavier things (like an 890).
I'd imagine the hand-held tractor beam, since it also works on ships, would also work with multiple people tugging on the same thing.
Good point on that, tandem tractor beams should be able to move higher size targets but need to test.
I would love to be able to use the 2h tractor beam for a repulsor beam mode to non-lethaly push people away with force reactions :P
Kind of like cargoships using fire hoses to keep pirate skiffs away IRL
It may be possible in future on people - there is a hard protection from tractor beams moving a shielded ship. Right now it locks onto a valid target it classes to determine if the tier of tractor beam is powerful enough to move the target and if valid it can move the target away and towards the user.
Expierment: The Drake Dragonfly can carry driver and rear facing passenger that can use a weapon, this combo gives interesting possibilities with both tractor beams, like a mini SRV.
It will be very helpful when persistent hangars release with cargo and ground vehicles loading
Bigger cargo containers and ground vehicles will enrhe bread and butter of the 2 handed tractor beam
Might be wise to slot a tractor beam rifle to one of the Tumbril Cyclone's rifle brackets. Road repair. :D
Nice integration!
Intergration
Integration is done with integers.@@RedJay
I did get an opportunity to play with it a bit and its a great step in expanding the industrial gameplay loop, the one major thing I learned the hard way was that the larger personal inventory cargo boxes need to be delivered to your ship not the local inventory until we get the cargo elevators.
Great catch. Be sure to check out IAE floor for preview of the cargo elevators for hangars btw!
@@RedJay oh wow ok thanks for the heads up :)
Great video man, just one small nitpicky thing. Those are not the new boxes. Those have been in the game for two+ years now(since we have had inventories). You could make 3 different sizes of those by putting stuff in your ship and blowing it up. In 3.17(last year), you could go buy that size from refineries.
The new boxes dont have internal storage. They have physical storage. You open the top and see in the box. They were in the pyro playground and shown at citizencon. Otherwise, great info.
Good catch. I have three placeholder boxes with test names I could not get to spawn also available in cargo center... but they will not spawn in SCU 1-8 sizes. These containers were the ones I could spawn and were in a different category of cargo center kiosk. I do not know if the 3 placeholders are in Pyro Preview or not, but you bet I will findout next time I'm in Checkmate I will look into it.
The caterpillar has now become a ground vehicle carrier 🙂!
Holy cow you are right! You could pop in 3-4 Cyclone MT and get going now.
we need the SOUND Effect to be more like a SUSTAINED magnetic field effect
like a HUMMING coil wine
Agreed on electrical coil sound, will likely get a full sound further in EPTU Testing.
how do you move the 1SCU boxes from your inventory to a physical box? I want to take one into a bunker. awesome video. great information. thank you.
I'm waiting for this patch.
a lot of interesting things should be introduced
Looking forward to Titan armor with tractor beams that can move heavy equipment... now that I think about it, Tital level tractor beams can probably move entire vehicles easily.
Also those small containers are not new. They have been for sale from station cargo level kiosks for a long time.
Would love to see Atlas suits that have utility kit. Would certainly add dimension to the suit lineup!
What about if you land your ship without deploying Landing Gear, as they clamp to the ground to provide a stronger hold on the ground. maybe without the landing gear you COULD pick it up?
There is some b-roll I edited out of Pisces not flying without landing gear down and door closed before I realized it simply would not fly with tractor beam but it did do same deal of moving further away and closer to me the user.
Given that the Multitool also does hand mining, AND does hand cutting (though I have yet to see that function) AND do some hand stripping and repair, which has to said is a LOT of functionality for a small device, does this new rifle like thing do ANY of the other functions beyond just tractoring things?
No. It is part of a new series of larger higher tier specialized tools. Ships with big enough racks to fit this unit without impacting loadout mean less risk of losing other functionality, but on foot or in a smaller vehicle/ship this is a serious strategic decision to pack the specialized tool.
it's a dedicated tractor tool, so no.
480 aUEC for the small tractor beam and 19K for the big one...I can't wait to see the aforementioned balancing of the economy in the game, which may or may not be coming in 3.22.
Agreed, this is shape of things to come on costs of hand tools and combat kit.
most the prices in game are 10 times less than what they are supposed to be so we dont have a hard time actually playing and testing things in an alpha state
Those little containers have been in the game for ages. The only new ones are the larger scu ones
Those containers are only set I could spawn, there are three new placeholder 1, 4 (believe it was 4), and 8 SCU available as well in Cargo Center. You are correct I mistook the ones in container category for also new alongside the placeholder open SCU containers which you can buy and put in ship inventory to hold bigger things but cannot get them to spawn yet in cargo bay it seems or you would have to first place them station inventory then admin office "buy" them to attach them to ship I suppose to have them paced in cargo on spawning ship. I was banking on a wide variety of sizes of cargo containers to test both sizes of hand tractor beam out but that did not work out this build.
I wonder if it could have lifted the pieces on a low g moon? Or moved the spartan if you drove it out of a C2 in space?
Great thought! At the minimum you will be able to move the vehicles you have partial control over (surface moving forward and back) in and out of a well angled ship in space. Rest needs to be tested!
Tractor beam loading and unloading cargo from ships workaround.
Glad to see the mule has a use now: chuck 'em at your enemies.
love the animations for the two hand multitool
Yes! Really loving them too!
No way to certainly know unless we ask cig, but would make more sense if tractor beam would take into account mostly mass, not size.
I agree on a realism perspective, but feel the size classification was critical because its a bfast category system and intuitivley players understand big object I need to grab the more powerful tractor beam or use ship tractor etc. Moving cargo in and out of ship will be high speed work and arranging hangars for next ship and such will be efficency demanding.
I hope that the Titan suits will let you have a larger tractor beam to move everything except from very heavy cargo. Or maybe it could, it's going to be a chore to balance between the different types of tractor beam now.
not really. Small means very limited. Two hands means essential functions like flipping ground vehicles right side up and moving cargo, ship tractor beams can move large objects and the tug can move big ships
@@MaticTheProto ...this is what I mean. The titan suits are supposed to let you move larger cargo, but if the hand held tractor beam (the larger variant in the video) then what's between that and using a ships tractor beam? It would make the titan suits ability a bit redundant.
I think they should change it, to be held like you would a.....lets say.....a minigun and add more drag when you move heavier things. So that it actually feels like the object you are carrying is heavy as shit depending on its actual weight/mass.
I don't see that being problem, in the sense it looks like more effort is applied to feel impactful and varies to more animation with bigger load on beam, do note there is an antigrav component to the tool that is written in to help it make sense, but it does not mean it should the user looking like they are walking a small dog.
I wonder if three people using a 2-handed beam could move that Ballista
I am going to test that out in a future 3.21.1 video to find out, would add even more value to this tool!
So, size 1 is multitool, size 2 is this rifle thing, I will assume size 3 and size 4 are shipboard tractor beams? And size 5 is the SRV type setup?
Argo SRV is not quite ready for primetime testing but I strongly suspect this week it will be good to go. Only random luck it seems so far has gotten the SRV to do the lock and move of unshielded ships let alone quantum travel with it, which only a few folks have pulled off. Once again this week should be when we start getting consistent results on SRV. Now on the others we can test there is a size designed for the kit, then you can partially move a size up... i.e. drag it towards or away from you at risk of you and the equipment while it is dragging... but you can do it.
Multitool is size 0, this tool is S1, regular ship tractor beams are S2 and SRV got S3 bespoke.
Excellent video.
Thank you!
The tractor beam dispaly should tell you if you can lift an object.
The sizes will become well known categories in the weeks ahead but yes I hope the final interface for the tractor beam has a clear message about how much control you have over target, i.e. none, can move it across a surface, or full
Wow. That’s a game changer.
Many will at the least have these tractor beams sitting on their ship at the least, some will have them on their backs show off their specialization in tool/weapon kits.
the weight factor is what's most impressive.
The new weight categories will be wikied and shared in huge lists in weeks to come. And that is a good thing for planning moving of specific box and vehicle sizes!
What about two 2 hand units to pick spartan?
Something we need to test!
I love you @redjay!!!
How come you didn't test on different size cargo boxes?
no point, currently you can move the 32SCUs boxes with the normal multitool so, it would prove nothing
I still was hoping to playtest with the new 2 hand unit the 3 placeholder open SCU containers but they would not spawn in the M2 cargo grid for me on this build last night or tonight.
Im wondering about the physics, even if its helpful for gameplay...
Wouldn't you get crushed if you tried to catch something 100x heavier than yourself?
Tractor Beams reduce mass with antigrav.
Josh is right, tractor beams in verse act as a push just as much as a pull thanks to anti gravity tech (now in realistic terms I think its fair to sat Silver only vehicle based and on a smaller power tripod mounted with temp anchors/rachets holding in place would be what near future tractor beam users will be using around the sollar system, but SC is way into future)
@@RedJay That does sound quite more sensible if a field with "zero-g" properties is formed around the object, which would in turn make you heavier than the object you are pulling. Couldn't even imagine how that would work in terms of physics but it surely explains the not getting crushed part!
if they want to do it right they will put weight limits in place and not arbitrary classes.
It is a tough call. Levels/Classes make it more ideal for loadmaster and their crew to easily size up the loads about what tools to task to what quickly but does lose some depth. For example if ship has a ship tractor beam the crew member operating can be instructed to focus on size 3 gear to load while those with "2-hand" tractor beams focus down sub size 3 cargo. I think some depth in weight could be maintained in mixed cargo scu containers coming up, in sense they stay in a level/class category but as their weight inside increases they act up under the beam, i.e. on edge of control distance they cut out slightly early and on movements your character or the turret display more effort to keep control. Perhaps more battery consumtion on hand units.
@@RedJay I think you are right about the weight limit, and a ship mounted size 1 tractor will be much stronger than a size 1 hand held.
I was wondering if a 6k rock in space would handle differnetly than the same size rock on the ground.
The size 5 on the STV will be a beast, dropping a 100K astroid on a ship that is on the ground would be nice. 😄Armistice zone?
Please check out my other post on this video.
Personally hope it gets nerfed. The Multi-tool is already OP with how it can move around a Buccaneer's remains even though they are huge. This think should be limited to small vessels. I'd prefer limiting it to vehicles such as the Golfcart or Dragonfly. Nothing bigger than a cutter. The SRV's can do Small to medium sized ships but anything higher than that and it requires more than one srv for it. I'd even recommend using a weight limit instead of a object whitelist.
It is a fair point that the system is perhaps a little too powerful and utilizes the balancing of taking up a "2 hand" slot on back and price of 19K aUEC too much. Will be interesting feedback thread for sure once this unit hits the PTU soon.
Wasn't this tool supposed to be able to move an Aurora?!? Like in the trailer....
The two hand new tractor beam can move Cutter Scout with ease lift it into air when on Yela. Its all about level of the vehicle or container.
11:31 please edit that out
Sorry about that static noise everyone, working that out now. EDIT- Edit is in awaiting approval by YT.
What's the difference between this and multitooll
He literally showed you that this can lift a cyclone when the multitool can't.
Sadazoul is right it can lift a cyclone, also testing tonight confirmed it can lift a Cutter Scout!
The Hercules hasn't a tractorbeam right?
Not at this time.
@@RedJay 🥲
Both tractor beams use two hands. 🤔
When people say two handed tractor beam it is conveying it only fits in the old school "2-handed weapon slot" as in your back slot for that and racks. Its a key thing because back slots are valuable and without certain gear you have zero slots and without heavier armor you only have 1 of them.
@@RedJay
People say? Or you say?
They are both two handed. Maybe use a better term, large and small or size 1 and 2, etc. The terms that the game actually uses for everything else.
Don't want to be mean but why did you not show what size of cargo boxes the two handed tractor beam can move. Like it's cool and all that it can move some vehicles but I think I speak for a lot of people in that we are not going to be using it for that.
@@velocitymg I know that's cool in all but they are mostly for cargo dude and when a video is titled what it can move when we all know they made it so the hand held one can't move the bigger boxes anymore and we have ship mounted tractor beams I want to know what each can move.
@@velocitymg I will also speak for a lot of people a lot of people use the tractor beam right now to move cargo and one of the big changes they talked about is that the multi-tool won't be able to move big boxes anymore so chill snarky comments.
Perfect subscriber item come on CIG
Absolutely, there will be these tractor beams in unique paints for subs at some point. Look at muti-tool paints from past.
Beam Citizen
get to the point talk about the tractor tool and how use it.
First moments of video I cover what it is and where to get it and show it in action. Use chapters to jump to topics you want to see.
Why do dudes play chicks?
Because if you are playing 3rd person you have something nice to look at.
How boring you will speak?the creator: yes. Can you bring a little bit work in your videos? Cutting. Make a script. Bring the informations quick and not talk 5 minutes over one theme what you can explain in 30 seconds. Gawd damit.
