Thank you Station Noyo River Coast Guards for saving my father's life and the lives of his two best friends. All three were experienced commercial fishermen. They were not dumb, stupid, or crazy rather made a very poor judgment call that day to not have their lifejackets on. Had they been Olympic swimmers the chances of their survival in those conditions would have been slim at best.

We are all glad they survived, bravo to the USCG. But the comments are not unwarrented, by definition. If you are on a boat transiting a dangerous are, common sense would dictate you wear a PFD, particularly if you can't swim. stu·pid

Obviously a bit too much pride on that boat being commercial fishermen and all. Glad your father and the others made it Georgia, I bet they won't live that one down at the marina tavern in a hurry.

Idiots...they should have drowned. Their "experience" makes the fact they didnt wear life jackets even MORE idiotic. "Lapse in judgement" is absolutely moronic. ANYONE who doesnt wear a life jacket, especially these experienced seamen is an imbecile

Oh the "Good ole days"... Miss that 44mlb. But they were only in 2-4 foot swells. Try keeping station in 6-8 foot at Cape D. Had a 44 rollover while in the bar.

Really stupid though to not be wearing life jackets if you can’t swim. They put others at risk! Glad they made it and hope they learned a lesson.

Apparently the zink plates fell off because normally this is true. The back up lead plates had been removed because of enviromental concerns. So there you go-the price we pay for enviromental safety.

When in doubt stay out !CG were great, but the most surprising is the survivor who says "never saw that before ..." Gosh, where did he sail before ?? Judging by the height of the waves there was no way a small boat could make the entrance with 100% safety.Young in shape able seamen could have taken the risk (with life jackets !) but elderly men without life jackets a not so goo reflexex and physical ability ... this was suicide !It happened to me once on my 33ft sail boat (9.50m) , swell was OK (ie. truly manageable, not as pronounced aśon the video and certainly not breaking) crew was well trained and fit, boat was in top shape or so we thought. We. Were already were 20 meters into the entrance of the channel pas the warf when the engine stalled ... The wave took us by the rear and the boat broached and threw the boat on the pier. We missed (or rather the boat) it by a hair and thanks to the momentum (or so I remember) we could recover some manoeuveŕ so that I could align the boat back to the middle of the entrance and hoist the sail back (most crews laugh or/and scorn at me because I always insist NOT to furl the mainsail fully as long as we are not fully in harbour...) and unroll the jib. We made it, but barely and thanks to the fact we were downwind... otherwise it may well be that tourists would have watch three men being washed to the wooden piles of the warf and gored by the zillion shells "rooted" on these piles !If in doubt stay out !

I don't know why more people don't buy those orange boats like the coast guard has, they seem to stand rough water even better than some ships and stay a float. I don't think I'd want to go out there in my kayak for sure.

And what was the fine for such stupid behavior? Experienced boatmen? Not by my reckoning-even if this was re-enactment, experience would tell you to be astute to the situation-wait, call for assist. Please, don’t refer to insurance and boat loss .ticket the owner. No sympathy from me- except to widow and family had the coast guard not been there.
