    Greetings from Wales.
This is a beautiful song by an excellent singer. It always delights me despite that I do not understand Finnish. I would like to visit Finland some day.

    Hi,
I've heard this song in the last Aki Kaurismaki's movie (L'Autre côté de l'espoir).
Loved it. I was wondering if anyone could translate me the lyrics (In french or english)?
They were translated back in the theater but i cant find them now.
    Thank you.

If anyone's looking for it, someone tried a translation (i'm not sure if they are totally accurate but they seems to be! As far as i remember). There you go ;-)
There was a field by the lake
There was a cottage there was a stove
There was a field by the lake
      and a man afield
It was spring it was may
      ground was black
Nothing else on the mind but to get the grains to grow
This land is a hard rocky land
      This land of long clouds
Though God forgives the one who sows
      this land never forgives
This land is a hard rocky land
      This land of long clouds
Though God forgives the one who sows
      this land never forgives
Long grains grew on the field
and man his luck silently on his mind
      but knew nothing more
      Came many colg nights
      it rained weeks of august
      It was all useless work
      Wet grains froze
This land is a hard rocky land
      This land of long clouds
Though God forgives the one who sows
      this land never forgives
      Day ends towards the night
      poor gulf turns to red
      I walk long bridge
what leaves behind it gets forgotten
This land is a hard rocky land
      This land of long clouds
Though God forgives the one who sows
      this land never forgives

I can't find much anything wrong with your translation. Poor gulf should be Töölönlahti and long bridge is Pitkäsilta (lit. long bridge). They are places in Helsinki. Pretty impressive if you did it without knowing Finnish. The singer on this track died in a traffic accident today. He was only 62.

Objektiivisesti arvioituna täytyy sanoa että todennäköisesti Suomen paras lauluääni.
