DIY Backyard Makeover Timelapse - 2 years in 9 minutes

  • After a decade of living in the same house without taking advantage of the backyard, I decided to roll my sleeves up and get to work. I've always loved woodworking and was craving a project. Little did I know how much work it would be, but with the help of my house-mates, good friends and a wonderful neighbor, we got the backyard looking real nice. This project has been very rewarding and a great opportunity to learn new skills. I hope this video inspires you to give your backyard some lovin' :)

I've just gone down through the comments section below.......I shouldn't have. There's some awful ugly people outthere who just love to pick and poke. This lovely person worked tirelessly to create a beautiful space for herself and people make such awful remarks. I for one believe this is a wonderful place to spend some well deserved rest in. I thoroughly enjoyed the video too. If I could give any advice to those who commented negatively, go do this yourself and see how hard it really is. It's nice to be nice. Try it and see. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us all, I for one really enjoyed it. You have created your own little piece of heaven. Now enjoy.

Bravo! 👏 I couldn't have said it better. This is truly an example of "sweat equity". Anyone whose done this kind of work 🙋‍♀️ on their own home truly knows and has experienced the back breaking work yet VERY rewarding results. I absolutely love how the bricks, wood and other items were upcycled. This yard is beautiful! I love it! Enjoy your new oasis!! 🌻

The whole project was a ton of hard work. The before looked wild and gone to seed. The end result shows more control and casual randomness. It has a more cluttered look than I personally like, but is 100% more welcoming than the old garden. Good job well done.

My grandparents lived in the Geneva district, and the backyard layout looked very much like yours. Even the skyline looks similar. I remember crawling in and out of a window just like that. I played for hours upon hours in the backyard. My grandfather had turned it into a garden paradise that was completely edible. I remember working with him in it many a time. That garden sustained 3 families when I was growing up, and a lot of love went into it. My grandparents passed over 25 years ago, and seeing this video, brought back some wonderful memories that had been locked away for decades. You did a wonderful job, and your hard work paid off. You should be proud. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. Funny thing is, I don't even know how this showed up on my feed, but it made my day. Thank you again.

This is a great time lapse video, thanks for taking the time to make it. What I really love is that you recycled and made good a lot of the stuff that was already there. I know often we do this because of the cost of buying new! However, many people don't realize or appreciate how much harder it is to restore rather than replace. The benefits of restoration are amazing, not just for the planet, but also in terms of self satisfaction and aesthetics, restored brick is much more beautiful than new! Awesome, love your garden.

Love the video. The garden is beautiful. I like its natural look. Don't pay attention to the nasty trolls who say it looks a mess. It's beautiful and look natural, like nature intended things to be.

I love the organic appreciation of the world. You revitalized the earth but incorporated yourself! It feels fresh and reminds of a movie I saw about a gardener who also has an organic taste and the world comes to love her! (I wish I remember what this movie was!!) I love love love the mannequin!

Very pretty. I love the cottage garden! For me, that’s so much nicer than a manicured garden!

Quirky, odd, eclectic, mish mosh of colors flowers and materials that looks nothing like a professional job. PERFECT!! I love it! I too stayed for the music 🙂

Z, as you walked through the hallway I actually began to smile at all the possibilities your garden has and the soundtrack helped the flow. The overgrowth meant sweat equity, great job!!
