I think this team will be fun to watch and give the other team coaches headaches. Because there is one thing that other coaches have said about Coach Pope. Is this It is hard to coach against Pope. Because his team are like teams of Pitino when he was at UK except extremely modified. He can adjust that team at anytime. So I think this team will be a run and gun team. THEY WILL RUN YOU AND WEAR YOU OUT. It's going to fun to watch them. If Pope does great at UK in 10 to 12 years he will retire as a Hall of Fame coach at UK. And have his name right under Adolph Rupp. That isn't to bad not bad at all.

@@kevinmurphy65 Some UK fans are still so accustomed to hearing the Salesman constantly telling us how good we'll be with all his future draft picks. Even when it didn't materialize, it was still comforting in the moment. A false comfort in recent years, though.

The problem is that Cal is putting a better roster together at Arkansas. If you were ranking both Arkansas and Kentucky's roster here, how would you rank them? I guarantee at the top would be Johnell Davis and Jonas Aidoo, maybe even Big Z. UK has gotten role players so far, with no star, people that have been a 6th man, or defenders, but nobody that could compete to be an All-American. We'll see who else they add, potentially Jaxson Robinson, but it's clear the talent level of the Cal era has dropped, now a lot of that talent ends up at Arkansas. Also, nowadays you never know what you are going to get from these transfers. Look at Knecht, nobody expected him to be a top 3 player in college last year, maybe one of these guys takes a huge jump. All I'm saying is this roster isn't done and success isn't guaranteed. Still have an unproven coach who has never won a tournament game, and so far a roster full of role players. Let's not pretend like they are a favorite to win a title yet.

I really hope we can make ammends with Osobor, after all, we did with Brea. Imagine our lineup with him and Robinson.

I'm thinking it will be a top 8 team. I think Coach Pope wants to turn the SEC tournament into the Kentucky Inventational. Like it was when he played. Then hang up national champions banners.
I love this line up because it’s like a pocket knife. You can coach we’re just moving people around and lineups.
I know we will probably wait on Robinson but I’d love to go all out for Kadary Richmond if he returns to college. Archor Archor who just entered. Wells from the west coast would be amazing if he stays in college too. I hope we go after at least 2 of them. I know Wooga Poplar may be an option too. Maybe a Darryn Peterson reclass.

Can you speak on travis perrys role on the team and how he might benefit the team based on whos been signed? I feel like he has gotten a bit lost in the sauce because I havent been hearing much about him and didnt even know he was signed more than a year ago because all ive heard is the hype around who is possibly coming from the portal and the newer guys being added to the roaster.
How is that surprising? Makes sense that we're going to hear all about the latest additions...that's the latest news. Perry will get his share of minutes because he can fill it up from the perimeter and that's what Pope's offense is all about.
He the only freshman coming in and he won it all at high school so he know how to win and play with this older guys BBN

The best thing that ever happen to Perry was mark pope being hired. If not he wouldn’t have got much playing time under the point guards that cal brings in. Plus pope system is made for a guy like Travis. He’s gonna be a great player

I honestly think, just looking at the roster and the player’s histories, the starting lineup ATM would be 1-Butler; 2/3-Oweh/Brea; 4-Carr; and 5-Williams. This is a thin lineup and would absolutely have to operate at their max efficiency. However, they can go with a ‘big’ lineup at and put Garrison at the 4 w/ Carr as their 6th man. Now, in Pope’s offense Perry, kriesa, and Chandler are going to get heavy minutes and/or move to the starting lineup based on matchups. His style is best served through depth so there will be enough minutes to keep them all happy. Obviously, Robinson would change things considerably and make that offense run more efficiently due to his familiarity w/ Pope and the offense.
What do you mean Travis Perry holds the record in high school for most points scored in the state for points scored and 3 point around 50 percent I will call you out on that one
Lance , I know this is maybe a reach , but could Reed re-think his next chapter with his basketball journey. Instead of going into the NBA ? Go back to Kentucky and compete with his teammates? especially Reed working on his defensive skills? ( food for thought) I believe Reed could move up the NBA 2025 board maybe even in the top 5 NBA draft picks.

The one question I have is, with Carr being the only stretch big, and Pope's offense utilizes 5 players on the perimeter, where is the depth. Carr is not enough.
BUT Ameri Williams is a gifted player that can switch and play the positions 1 thru 5. At any given moment on the floor. VERY Good defensively and offensively. And is 6-10.
@@davidalexander828 True, but he can't shoot the 3. His big, Khalifa, at BYU could shoot the 3. It made the defense respect his ability on the perimeter and opened up the lane for cuts and zoom action.
@nspektrgadjet1561 He has 33% 3 pt average last year. That is up from 26.7% from 22. That isn't a bad improvement. So he can be a threat behind the arc. Bur what I really like is Pope going after players with some defense abilities. You realize that last year team only 1 player under Cal averaged 1 steal or better per game. And that was Reed Shepherd. And every new player that Pope has gotten so far has averaged at least 1 steal per game last year. That means Defensive is coming back to UK basketball.
We’ll find offense, through the players we have and likely some late additions. I love that Pope and his staff have identified defensive needs and are addressing those concerns. We were absolutely awful defensively last year. All season.
@nickperkins8477 We have been falling for years on the defensive front. Pope wants players who go for the rebounds, steal the ball causes turn overs. All that opens up the offense more.

This roster looks like a patchwork quilt of mid-majors and also-rans. Unless Pope has Coach-of-the-Year credentials, this is an SEC .500 team. If Reed Sheppard and Adu Theiro were to come back, they might have some potential.
CATS need a bucket getter that can play along the front line, like a 4 slot. Still a little thin across the front, in case there is an injury. What was the situation in regards to Williams?
WILLIAMS is a gifted player that can play positions 1 thru 5 anytime on the court. Good offensively guy GREAT DEFENSE GUY.

Achor Achor is an explosive player and he reminds me of Ado but better shooter …. He is a must get all cards in on him ⛹️♂️🏀 I do think we need around 12 players because of fouls and injuries and pace of play even if last players are projects for future.
Mark Pope will have no problem with getting the right team together

I dont think UK's getting another "dude" outside of Jaxson Robinson. That would be player #10. I think theyll do some deep analysis on the remaining portal players and try to find a good young developmental guy who a 3 & D forward who can play the 3 or the 4. Honestly, I think a great guy for that role would be Jordan Burks, but none of Cal's guys are coming back unfortunetly. Big named 4s like Anchor Anchor who are in their final year of eligibility arent going to come into a frontcourt situation where they have to split minutes with 3 other dudes. We saw Amari Williams have second thoughts when UK added a third big. So get me a sophomore or Junior who will take a bench role and can come back a year later with experience in the system and an expanded role or can hit the portal if he gets recruited over. Then you have two scholarships you can sit on during the summer that you can maybe find an international guy, a reclassifying HSer, or if something crazy like a coach pulls a Bob Huggins and gets fired and a star player becomes available in June/July/Aug
Think our best chance if getting a "dude" is to get someone who is trying foe the NBA and decides to stay in college.

Joe Lunardi had UK as an 8th seed in the Midwest, lol! They will be the best or second best seed in South or East region from my projection formula. People will be shocked!! He won 23 games in the big 12 conference and beat top ten teams along the way with a Mormon college. I know what he is capable of! He can out coach and out play Calipari, X and O’s like all night! Just wait

@pmontyjaaaymes488 We were losing faith under Coach Cal for the last 5 years. Because Cal thought he was bigger than the program. ONLY one coach at KENTUCKY was bigger than the program. And that was because he WAS THE PROGRAM. And he hung up 4 champion banners and got UK an Olympic gold medal. Joe B Hall did more for Kentucky basketball in his 14 seasons than Cal did in his 15 yrs at KY. And Hall had to follow the the coach who built the program.
I disagree we need two dudes, and one needs to be a true guard. if Pope can get two more top 10 guys and a true guard, we will be ready.
WVU fan here. You're going to love and hate kerr. He'll have games that you'll be happy he's on your team and he'll have games where you wished he would have called in sick. Defense is also optional with him, so don't expect much there. Streaky shooter with a turnover problem and not much defense, but in Pope's offense he should be ok. Definitely would not want him at the 2.
Man Pope system remains to be seen in the SEC. All the teams play hard nosed defense. You better be able to get to the rim and finish through contact bc you are going to get it no matter what. That's what our fanbase doesnt get. We are notorious for hyping until the hype train runs a little off the tracks. Then we lose our minds. Just the way it is here. Im gonna wait and see midways through, or the end of the season before i get any excitment. Its easy to tell some of the players we got are going to have a hard time in the sec. Once the system falls apart at times bc of the defense, who will be our hard bucket getters. That's what i want to know. Offense breaks down all the time. We shall see.

@@pmontyjaaaymes488 Pope beat Kansas at Kansas with lessor talent on the floor than Kansas had. Bill Self said Pope's team at BYU was hard to coach against because it was like an old Rick Pitino's UK team just really modified. So this team will be fun to watch.

We might get Robinson but the rest will be fill ins for foul trouble or projects. These are older players that earned plenty of playing time. IMO
Mark Pope did a pretty good job but we don’t know till all the roster fills out this dude talks about how good they’re every day just let it play out

I tried to tell ya Lance! Mark is smart! He is like a Rhode Scholar and he was the 96 captain! Arguably the best team ever in college basketball. The 2015 team blew that in the final four against Wisconsin, ridiculous really, I’m over it but no smart coaching from you know who. Just saying! Facts!
Been plenty of good teams to blow it. But Poythress was the Xfactor on that team. When he went down that caused the matchup problem with Dekker. You couldn't play Ulis against him either. Had nothing to do with coaching.

Bad information from Lance. Jaxson Robinson already said he plans to return to BYU if he doesn’t go to the NBA. He loves BYU and he’s excited about their new coach from the NBA. He said he doesn’t have any interest in going to Kentucky. Lance must not be following the news very closely.
