    There is a mistake about the year. This is the Paris Roubaix of 1976. Kuiper is amongst the four ahead. He is wearing the World championship shirt. He became world champion in1975. Moreover, Merckx is still in the Molteni team. In 1977 he was in the Fiat team. Besides this, it is great to publish this video.

      Hi! Quick question: Were they using 32 or 36h wheels?
      No doubt they were using sew-ups but I've ALWAYS wondered about the 32 vs. 36 spoke count on wheels of the past (late 1970s-1980s.)
      Straight guage or Double-butted? 2x or 3x lacing? Anyways, thanks!

      @Penfold-zr2be Před rokem

      @@ralphc1405 would have varied depending on choice of rider. Some might have 36 in rear and 32 in front. Heavier riders may have used 36 in both. In the 50s standard spoking was 40 in rear and 32 front.

    This is the way to broadcast a bike race. Good editing, good commentary. Its amazing how dangerous... still chaotic today, but it seems more so then with the motos and cars.

    Love the old diets.. Rare steak.. actually my fav. These racers of old were truly tough people. It was much more dangerous than todays, as all the accidents and situations have shaped how safety has been considered in modern races.

    Looking at their faces and thinking that the riders were young men in their 20s, strikes me the fact that they looked much older, especially if compared with the nowadays riders. That was a real cycling: no radios, no plans, no technology...

    Occured to me with the brutal pace, did they have 12t cogs on their 6 speed freewheels this year? Otherwise they had to hammer the 52 or 53-13

    What a bunch of has beens. They were doing it all wrong! Today's in-the-know hipster cyclists on their Made in China plastic fantastic "bikes" know that the riders position was WAY too back, the cleats WAY too forward, these hacks were making no power, they were not spinning. You gotta spin. Spin, spin, spin....
