    Great video, well thought out. I started back in 2005 with school buddies but its unfortunate that they are now fathers and don't always have the time. luckily one of them still plays and introduced his 8 year old daughter to it. Then again he should not let her around drugs lol

    How I sell OSRS to a friend who never properly played, is to think about a good old classic RPG with a huge world, lore, detailed quests, and that authentic feeling of adventure and progress.
    There are no loot boxes, no season passes, no level 90 boosts like in other new MMO titles. It is not a themepark MMO. It is like classic wow in the sense, that a big part of the game is just leveling up and discovering the world. Except in classic wow, 40% of the game is about the leveling grind and 60% is about the raids. In OSRS 90% of the game is about the leveling progression, and maybe 10% of the focus is on chasing best in slot.
    Just don't let them get the idea that they will be raiding in days. That they will be an epic gigachad in insane gear, right after starting. I told my new player friends, that they will be starting off with killing goblins and other low tier monsters. They will be fishing and cooking their food to grind. They will discover quests that have really good rewards, and obtaining meaningful upgrades along the entire way. It is not a 100 meter sprint like modern MMO leveling. It is a beautiful 100km hike where you get to choose your own path. Remember to enjoy it before it is over.

    @gibble7863 Před rokem +1

    very good video and some excellent points for sure. Aside from the graphics, I think one thing that turns a lot of people off, particularly competitive players, is just how much rng there is. It doesnt feel good when you can play better than your opponent and still lose because they simply had better rng than you. Thats not to say that PvP isnt heavily skill influenced, because it definitely is, but when 2 players who are closely or evenly matched fight, the deciding factor often becomes who gets the better hits and thats something they cannot control. Compared to a game like CoD for example where the better player always wins.

    I like to describe OSRS to my friends as a "glorified aim trainer." AimLabs/Kovaaks but with actual content. Switching from console to mouse and keyboard for FPS games back in the day seemed way easier for me than most people, most likely cause I played Runescape on the side while I was a console kid and was basically practicing clicking heads.

    • @ducky5612
      @ducky5612 Před rokem +1

      That's an interesting take lmao, I've yet to question why I feel similarly. Went from RS as a kid to Xbox playing Halo for a while. Only to pick up CSGO as a first PC FPS game and did better than expected in the transition from controller. Neat

    • @ayoo_wassup
      @ayoo_wassup Před rokem +1

      this doesnt work for me. i need a relatively high sense to boss in osrs. and in csgo i start shitting when my sense is that high. clicks dont have to be nearly as accurate in rs. and things dont track or move very often. things like that tend to require a bit lower of a sense. high sense allows me to move all over the screen easily. but reduces my click accuracy slightly. not enought to affect rs clicks. but definitely enough to overcorrect on tracking a target in a shooter

    • @Iog0ut
      @Iog0ut Před rokem +1

      Using arrow keys to move the camera and your mouse to click monsters and fletch darts really translates well to most pc games as a skill. I click way faster than other people when shooting semi auto guns in rust because I have so much practice making darts. Changing prayers in late game pvm and looting fast also seem to be similar skills.

    I quit playing at free trade removal / eoc, and started again in like 2017. But when i got to the mid game with rune gloves, dragon defender, fire cape etc, i just got.. bored and lost my drive and motivation. Everything felt sooooo slow and unrewarding, i didn't really get any cool drops or lucky clue scroll pulls, i went like 100 chests dry at barrows, i was constantly out of gold and in a price crash, i just had to force myself to to play because i just didn't seem to progress anymore. My next goal was barrows gloves and fighter torso, but i never got to it. I didn't really even want them. I lost that sense of achievement and it felt like unrewarding manual labor i had to pay for.
    I had SO much fun before that though, and i was having the time of my life returning to RS, and i still think of that super fondly
    I get my fix from watching osrs content on youtube, and i think that's cool too.

I smoke a lot of pot and so do my friends, so I frequently try to tell them they can just vibe and fish and bullshit with strangers. @@runewraith it’s worth checking out. I can’t stand playing the game because of EOC but the way they reworked skills, added in rewards for not afking well letting you afk way more, getting you to level 10-20 in every skill.
      They guide new players along giving them time to find their own exploration interests.
      Imo a easy solution would be just pulling things rs3 has implemented.

    i've returned to this game back in 2018 i believe then later chosen to quit the game after the Shattered Relics (Was like the only time i had fun playing the game.) My goal was simple during the time i had return, play a little bit, get my farming cape i never gotten (I got it.), But after that i was just killing Vorkath for bonds and not really going anywhere else since i never had the skills for stuff like pvp and pvm.The game got dull after a while and i felt like i was just wasting my time not enjoying doing other skills that could had made my experience better. After getting 99 Farming i had really no other goals, I had good stats 70-90+ in most skills but never really had the energy to get max cause everything just felt really boring...I've requested a perm deletion of my account, it was fun to do the grind as a kid but as a adult it felt time consuming in a bad way and i see why i was better off probably going to RS3 since things are much more faster.

    If they just made the game introduce fun PvP and PvM earlier, and made some way nicer graphics and animations, the game would be the easiest sell of a game there is as an MMO.
    Less reliance on the Wiki too, which at least has been getting better over the years (like the Activity Advisor). I kinda wish there were quests to kind of introduce mechanics like how how running makes you avoid obstacles every other tile, or prayer flicking, or combo eating, etc.
    I 100% agree about how the game isn't just a tile clicking simulator in mid-to-late game, and it's actually like a fun rhythem game with depth in its various mechanics. So many people barely touch PvM or any of this stuff, so most people market the game as just an afk fishing simulator with social aspects, but it's actually way more than that. At least Tombs of Amascut has been introducing this stuff to more mid-level players, like myself. Completely changed my view of the game since the most PvM I had done before was just killing the Giant Mole or Barrows... which are kinda boring.

    osrs is definitely a hardcore game and it takes hundreds of hours to get into the fun content (in my opinion ofc) - i think that in addition to the graphics are the major reasons why it's hard for new players to jump in.

      @jakemartin2356 Před rokem

    90 base combat stats and a $100-200M bank can have you ready to do most end game content. A lot of BIS gear outside of some notable weapons provide very negligible DPS upgrades. It's still quite the grind tho.

    i convinced one person to play by letting them use my spare account for a little while so they could experience the better stuff without having to grind first. unfortunately, they didnt want to start a fresh account and i wanted my pure back so never joined up. i think it its time jagex started offering pre-trained accounts for sale, they could make a fortune doing this and it would attract a lot more players to the game, even have current players starting pure accounts to co their main. even better - give us the tools to sell accounts ourselves, like their own ebay for example

      There is already a market for this, cornered by third world countries n stuff. What you described is what happened to the game Tibia, and it completely made everyone who has ever progressed their own account quit now people level by grinding GP and buying higher level accounts lol. Made a lot of the game seem pointless, osrs is a grind based game for sure

      @@LoveSpellzFB i get what you mean, i didnt mean lvl 99s. maybe something like armour use levels up to rune, or starters of pure accounts eg mages/rangers with exclusive untradeable outfits to make everyone want one

    The graphics are not the hard selling point. It’s the fucking start of the game is abysmal. Hey this game is great here let’s do the worst fucking skill for 12 hours on a roof to get graceful.
    I love coming back to osrs but I can’t imagine trying to sell this game to people unless they play like mobile games or something else mega grindy

    "the developers care about the balance of the game" yet fails to mention how the last update to the wilderness just a few weeks ago just completely screwed over a lot of old players with the idea of power-creep with the newer weapons, they require less effort than some of the god-swords to obtain, and are just far better, honestly really lazy of jagex to do something like that on top of it hurting game balance

    osrs just isn't as attractive or fun as other more modern games that get released. all my friends quit rs throughout the years and i have been playing less and less simply due to the fact that they don't wanne click the same spot for 100 hours to train a single skill while they could be playing something more engaging, actionpact or just more fun. i've asked them if they considered starting rs again for some bossing or raids and always get the reply "why would i braindead grind rs when i can play x or y." i can't blame them tbh. and since they quit it's been less and less fun for me aswell since i have to play with random clan members or strangers. just compare ff14 to osrs. both are mmo's but ff14 has a better crafting system, better raids(mechanics and visuals), very noob friendly aswell as a very good story and it's very rewarding for every type off player from rpers to hardcore raiders. osrs's reputation as a scam fest doesn't help either. if you add all these things up osrs really doesn't seem that appealing anymore to alot of people or at least to my friends and i.

    Everything about this video is why people don't play.
    You're looking at it from a seasoned player's perspective, and that alone, is a huge turn off to new players.
    Getting owned by the dark mages in Varrok was part of the fun and feel of the game.
    We need to stop sucking up to everyone who just wants a timekiller or an easy dopamine fix. It's players like this that have actually RUINED the game.
    My proof: Castle Wars.
    Can't have a fun time in Castle Wars anymore because of the players who farm it for decorative armor. STUPID.
