Today we installed a dual alternator bracket setup on William's 2004 5.3l suburban, this is the fast forward version. (per requests will upload the hour long normal speed version) Stock alternator in stock location and 350 amp/ 220 idle hairpin on the secondary location.
This alternator has the internal bypass permanently setting the voltage at 14.9v. All of out hairpins come standard with this option unless someone wants the vehicle to regulate the voltage (which will run lower on voltage) As you can see at the end of the video the performance gains at idle was outstanding. Dropping to 12.5 in the rear with the stock alt and a single Northstar SMSAGM480, on a 4k amp wired at 0.67 after the dual setup installed, holding 13.8+ at idle. Will do a video update on the voltage hold on a rev.

The mini "add a circuit" has a crimped end so wire connections are crimped together, we didn't have any small shrinks with us as we were not in our usual location so we wrapped the crimped end with electrical tape until we go back and heat shrink the crimped connections. This connector made this a breeze, found them at O'riely's. - Auta a dopravní prostředky

The only reason I put a second alternator in a car is to have a independent 120 volt system to the car it would be a 120 volt alternator
how would you wire the second battery under the hood
I went to the link and it shows a error. I'm looking for a bracket for a second alternator , that I can use on my 1988 Isuzu trooper 2.6
@@jsil88dog if my info is correct, you don't add a second battery.. This is one of the reason for a 2nd alternator in my car, so i wouldn't have a 2nd battery being charged by just one alternator..
I may be wrong but i believe its either 2 batteries vs one alt or 2 alternator vs 1 battery.. Alternator num 2 runs audio independently therefore not draggin on engine performamce ECT..
Im learning. Don't quote me
Do you have a bracket like this for a 2001 mercury Grand Marquis? If not can you make one?
Interesting to see your install and busbars. I’m an electrician but not an auto electrician. Here because just mins ago I thought “What if I could install a second alternator in my 4x4.” Thanks for sharing proving this could be possible. I have some industrial deafness. When younger I loved subwoofers 🔊 in company provided work utilities - my boss didn’t 🤣
Great mixing and mastering of the audio on this vid!
this was a great idea, those of you with a problem with it don't seem to know much about how sound systems are designed. this is something all the loud system owners need to stop the problems the have with power to their system. stop hating on it
I rarely comment but when I do, here it is I have a question for you to help me , why there are no fuses in between alts a battery and no fuses in back battery?
Excellent demo build - makes sense if you need the extra power - for like powering a heavy inverter!... not just for sound systems ... nice!!!
That’s awesome set up
This is one of my favorite video.
Great video! 👍
Hey guys nice job system sounds real good I did something similar to your power upgrade and still found out I was having a bit of fluctuation like you have, I was able to remedy the problem with a n additional battery. I use a group 31 battery that has threaded post commonly used in semi trucks.
John Smith why there is no fuse in between alts and battery and a fuse in the back battery ? get back to me whenever you can thanks
+Rob Echo Typically there is no fuse on the alt to battery wire because of the length which is short and its minimal routing through the chassis, also the alternator output can fluctuate a lot and sometimes you will see really high spikes. You could put a fuse on that link just be sure its probably 20 percent more than the rated output of your alternator.
For the other part of the question its a necessity to use a fuse as close to the battery as possible when running any wire and not just the original battery you need a fuse after the oem battery then another fuse as close to the additional battery as possible then another fuse on the load wire of that battery. This assures that you will never have a shorted wire along the length of the run. If you were to short the wire from one battery to the other and had only one fuse the additional battery would short unless you can safely cut voltage to that via the second fuse.
That is a pretty windy answer but I just wanna run home how important it is to have a fuse along any run without one you are more than likely to catch the vehicle on fire with a source more powerful than one of those silly fire extinguisher can extinguish. I don't know who said this but any thing than can go wrong will. Have a good day buddy.
Are both positive on the alternators in parallel so that you get higher amps at idle or are there separate, factory alt for trucks electrical and HO alt for system?
The man has been bitten by the bass bug! It happened to me. The sensation of 20hz at 140db is pretty wicked! Bass adds a solid backbone to your tunes. Its not for everyone....
i was bitten with it lol
i have the disease
@Rob James 140db will destroy your ear drums if it's something like 3000hz. But low frequencies don't really affect ear drums. You feel it in your body which can handle much much db than ears can.
what kind of bolt is the one you installed on the alternator I need it for my bracket.
I love this video! Hell yeah man.
can you help with some details? i want to charge the 24 v dc,deep cells battery bank [ 4 X 12 v dc ,110 amp hour ], in my camper . but i'm only showing 2-3 amps, going into a 12 to 24 step up charge controller. that don't sound right.can i get more charging amps out of this? the goal is to later add a 24 volt alt.
Hey guys , would this alternator be one that would / could charge up lifepo4 batteries for say campers or van camper?
Can you add a second high output alternator next to the stock one??
Yes
As an old electric-mekanic working at Scania-trucks in sweden we mounted double alternators in the trucks because they got more and more of gadgets that need electricity. But that seams foulich to do it så complicated as in the video .By that time it was just 35 amps each alternator Times24volt it makes 35 X24 =840 w.This was in the 1970:ties.
Times two =1680 w .
Awesome. I have a 4 spot alternator distribution block from you all and I'm wondering do I run 2 power and 2 ground or just 4 runs of power to the battery?
Awesome!! Does the correct size belt come with the dual alternator bracket for a 2004 Chevy Tahoe? Just curious
I have an 82 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, that's been modified & now has an Oldsmobile 455 engine from a 74 motorhome installed. I used all the 350 Oldsmobile pulley set up to make the engine fit in the engine compartment so it looks totally stock, what's the biggest direct fit alternator you have for this vehicle? I'm upgrading & redoing my 8 twelve inch woofer setup...
So the 8mm alternator output stud is the fusible link?
So if I run dual stock alts that are two pin can I twist them together like ya did?
When you add 3 Gm 1 Wire Alternator 120 Amp Each you multiply 120 Amp x 3 for 360 Amp ?
Where did you get that Bracket for the 2nd Alt?
How did you guys wire that second alternator up because I have 2 high output alternators and my primary alternator won't charge my battery
Are both alternators ran to the front battery, to the 480? I’m having issues getting both my alternators to work right
just carious what effect did this play on your electrical system ?
I'm putting a 10" tube TV, composite video camera and VCR in a '77 Caddilac (425 engine) for a retro dashcam setup. All that equipment runs on 110v ac. Will i need a 2nd alternator to run the inverter or am i good putting the inverter in what came factory?
Where did you find a good drowns in the back ? For the battery.
And mines only charging at 13.2
I didn’t run the yellow wire to the battery.
I have a dual alt, but I just ran all my 0gaugh from alt to the back batteries. I have 3 Northstars 31 and my amp stil drops to 10/11 volts ?
I running a Rockford 2500bdcp and it gets hot. Going into thermal. Im not sure what’s causing it ?
Also. My primary alt doesn’t have the big 3 not using the power from it.
Do you produce universal alternator brackets? I wish to replace my Chevrolet Colorado Z71 (Thailand version) stock alternator with your 370A rated product but I need to make it sure that my existing bracket can accommodate the new one with no issues. Any solution? Thank you.
Been looking for a duel alternator bracket set up for a 2006 jeep grand Cherokee 5.7 hemi have 4 gt1 6000ds and 2 15 inch Mmats juggernauts need power 2 red top optimas and big 3 aren't enough
they got the best music for the video black jack swerve
I am thinking of putting one in my mini van. Better to have an external regulator or internal? I'm not sure how this works....
How many high power alternators can you run on one battery? Or grafite?
Do you have the other alternator hooked up to that battery as well? In other words are both alternators working together on the same changing system.?
Where can i purchase a dual alternator bracket kit for 2005 Monte carlo
Question I have the same set up does the switch power has to be resisted down with out blowing the regulator..I need help I wired it in to the factory and I feel like it's not fully charged or charging my batteries 🤦also where did the blue one go?
one question, if you dont conect the 12v wire to the alternator (the blue wire), what could happen? alt wouldnt put out max amp or it wouldnt even work?
I'm wondering same thing
Now thats a killer setup. I dig the music too. If that car came into my hands Id have a workshop in the back ready to go. Welder, grinders, everything. Beast power! (of course a 12 or two as well :)
What was that song y'all were playing at the end of the video?
I've had your alt in my van now for a while and man! What a difference!! It was well worth the money!! Wish it would have come with a GP Car Audio vinyl or some sort of sticker to show it off. But all good.
10 sec in I liked your content keep up the vids it looks sharp to
DAMNNNNN! Have you GP'd any nissans? That's really pretty cool!!!
almost done 2 engines in a 4wd in each wheel 240 ac generators putting out 960 volts at idle. Still not not enough for my bubble of energy to float. Need help
Love the beat
Any videos for a 96-2000 chevy 5.7 dual bracket?
If your altinator is on the bottom like in a car how do you add a second one
Pretty bad ass! Suggest detailing the engine compartment to make it look even better.
where can I get that bracket? I'm also looking for an affordable alternator myself.. like 200a or 250.. my 06 Silverado 5.3L has stock 145amp.. I'll only be pushing a skar 2000.1d (2000watt rms)
What kind of specific metal you used in your alternator bracket?
Ahi esta propiciando un recalentamiento del sistema porque al conectar los alternadores en paralelo el voltaje sigue igual pero la corriente aumenta
Help do they have one for a 1998 GMC K1500 Sierra SL 5.0L ?????
My question is will that pulley ever move like it's on a screw will it ever get loose
Very clean professional work!
Can you feel a difference in performance or fuel economy?
God is not real lmfaoo 🤣🤣🤣
@@izoletearistoy6978 god is definitely real, plz find him before it’s too late. He loves you , and so do I sister !
@@Nitroxdude shut up
Wonder if this could be achieved on a 2015 subaru Impreza
I looking to purchase a dual bracket for corolla 2021
Can you help me with that?
Car Alternator as a Engine Starter?
Alternator for Starting and Charging
If the 2nd alternator is putting out that kind of voltage then won't the first alternator be useless as the voltage regulator will try and not output anything?
Does anyone know how many batteries in a battery bank a 24v alternator can charge?
you wont overcharge your batteries like this? i always ran extra alts to a switch. especially ones that just put out 14.8+ all the time. stock i left the same.
goldeneye4564
Voltage regulator is gonna regulate voltage , if the batteries have 14.8 then the amperage drops off.
To me yea , 14.8 is on the high side , 14.5 is plenty but it’s not way out of range , it’s not gonna be popping bulbs or anything.
Does the internal bypass come with the kit???
Pioneer AVH-1650? that head unit
Both alts wired to same battery?
I mean can I have two alts charging 1 battery?
goodshit bro👍👍
What was you bumping at the end ?
When putting a 2rd alternator on do you hook up the 3 wire plug or do you just run off the bolt in the back?
Did you figure that out? I'm completely stuck on that step. Please help if you came up with solution.
What fuse location did you use..i gotta 2002 Tahoe
So just hook up the field wire to an ignition source??
how do get 4.2kwatt from a 750 watt alternater
fire waiting to happen
Where the blue wire connects to? SO IS ALSO A GOOD CHOICE not to bypass the regulated feature? If so blue and yellow wire are left unplugged?? Thanks
I am wondering the same thing but it looks like it's not even connected to anything looks he put it on the side to get it out the way
Does a 1000 watt amp pushing 2 12s affect the alternator? I recently installed my system and 4 months later my alternator stopped working. Please let me know. Thanks
as long as you wire sufficiently stock alternators are fine on 1000 watts. Check your grounds, and be sure you have done the big 3 upgrade
14.8 v is that a heathly charging voltage for that battery??
Do u use the same tension belt
Why do all those exposed positive terminals terrify me?
Where can i buy that connector the bypass 1
what's the belt length?
i need a dual alternator bracket for a 2015 subaru outback any leads ya can give me on one
Wow look at those turbos...
Zac Sanders yeah now it’s a twin turbo
If I'm putting a secondary alternator, does it matter if it is not for my vehicle application ? I'm putting a alternator bracket on a 2004 Silverado 4.3 L V6 and the secondary alternator looks like that green one in the video that I want to get
Dis you ever figure it out?
how much more resistance is that on the belt when producing full power?
@ circus, 3500 watts is about 5 HP, and the alternator is likely in the ballpark of 50% efficient. So the extra load on the belt could be as much as 10 HP.
How did you get both alternators to put out amps? Typically only one will put out power until its maxed out before the other steps in.
It looks like the sound system is on a completely separate system with its own battery bank, independent from the vehicle's 12V system. The two alternators don't even "see" each other. The only things they have in common is ground and the ignition sense line to allow the aux alternator to start when the engine is running.
Any way to put a dual alt bracket on a 4.0L 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I see. .
Do you sell these alternator kits out the door? Damn I could use one.
Where did you get the bus bar for the alternator?
Gp car audio. 4 spot alternator distribution block for only 24.99.
So the blue wire coming off of the secondary alternator next to the yellow 12V switched wire does not have to be connected correct?
Gilberto Rosas we are setting these up differently now, theres several variations when bypassing
I have that same question were does the blue wire go to
hope the engine has been tuned up too instead of just having an additional alternator to help power the sound system
That shit is so loud it affects driveability
Can we fit it in fortuner 2013 model in india
I have a 03 Cadillac Esclade but one side of my bracket broke that the long bolt go through do anyone know if that why my truck shake or vibrate
Sorry that the alternative sit on one side broke that the long bolt go through will that causes vibration
how did you wire it, I just started a dual altanator upgrade an don't know how to wire it up. you only spoke of the one wire. anything will help. thank you very much.
the stock alt stayed plugged in like normal, the 350 amp is internally bypassed, so it only needs the switched power wire hooked up
Will it work with a 2017 car or will the ECU throw a fit?
@ Salad, with a separate alternator and battery bank, the ECU won't even know it's there.
How much is it for a extra alternator to be hooked up to a car? And would it be okay if its daily driven?
his alternators run between $500-$650 and a dual alt bracket is $300.
Hmm... I have a different use for a second alternator in my '98 Dodge with 12 valve Cummins. I am thinking of adding a secondary 48 volt system.
Timothy Earp I have a 99' 2nd gen 5.2 Gas V8 how can I get a 2nd alt bracket? I want one for my bass setup
I thought 12 valves were 24v. Are you running a pto welder or something?
@@saladking2370 No, the project died on the drawing board. 12 valves are 12 volt systems, they have 2 batteries but they run in parallel
@@timothyearp631 Ahh okay. Dang, sorry to hear that the project died :(
Ez nice work guys
Couldn't you just run that second alternator straight back to separate 14 or 16 volt battery setup dedicated just to your amps?
Yes this is what everyone is doing with lithium batteries now too.
what decides the size fuse you use at the fuse box?
you used a 10amp fuse right
Hi i have a 1996 dodge intrepid, and the AC compressor is nfg. Took it off, and am preparing an alternator and bracket project for a spare....or to boost others, maybe even another battery in trunk for spare......maybe even remove voltage reg and diodes, just run it for AC 120 ....with a step up transformer....i'll see.....
maybe set it up for 18 VDC, to run my cordless tools, (now wired) batteries are way too xpensive....
Ese coche es carne de incendio eléctrico!
I wouldn’t enjoy that alternator color being so nice if the engine bay looked like that.
I need one, where can I get it?
