I'm British and old enough to remember many tiny little workshops where they hand-produced day-to-day items. Sadly, that's pretty much gone now as you know, apart from artisanal crafters who are also trying to keep the old skills alive.

How many splinters have you had getting to the level you are at in your chosen art form? Watching you split the bamboo barehanded into its smaller pieces from its original stalk almost made me look away! Be safe my friend!

First one, Kinda reminds me of Bamboo Fly Rod making. All Awesome work. I wish I had a job making wonderful things people cherished. Instead of repairing electronics with a 2 year life.
This is a wonderful selection. I love watching the craftsmen. It was interesting to see how far a bamboo bow could shoot and how much bowstring it could hold.

I have just completed my morning practice session with my SHIBATA yumi…..flawless and beautiful….it simply does not tolerate errors in shooting ….requires at minimum 6 seconds expansion in kai

She said she helped feed her family after the bomb. Part of me felt ashamed that day. As a VietNam vet, I know all to well the horrors war leaves behind

We think that cutting corners just because it is a simple job is an act that takes us further away from high quality! I think it makes sense to be careful with simple tasks!
The younger Kanjuro Shibata who is the 21st generation to make these bows are removed from Mr. Shibata, the original Bow Master, by 630 years! So, they started Bow Mastery in 1380! That is really cool!
Yeah I guess power tools could be handmade. But really the power tools took a lot of the awesomeness out of the video for me. But I’m sure it brings down the overall price on the piece And makes it available to more people and that’s a good thing
