Goldsmith was born February 10, 1929, in Los Angeles, California. His family was Romanian Jewish.[1] His parents were Tessa (née Rappaport), a school teacher, and Morris Goldsmith, a structural engineer.[2] He started playing piano at age six, but only "got serious" by the time he was eleven. At age thirteen, he studied piano privately with concert pianist and educator Jakob Gimpel[3] (whom Goldsmith would later employ to perform piano solos in his score to The Mephisto Waltz) and by the age of sixteen he was studying both theory and counterpoint under Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, who also tutored such noteworthy composers and musicians as Henry Mancini, Nelson Riddle, Herman Stein, André Previn, Marty Paich, and John Williams. At age sixteen, Goldsmith saw the 1945 film Spellbound and was inspired by Miklós Rózsa's unconventional score to pursue a career in music.[4][5] Goldsmith later enrolled and attended the University of Southern California where he was able to attend courses by Rózsa, but dropped out in favor of a more "practical music program" at the Los Angeles City College.[6] There he was able to coach singers, work as an assistant choral director, play piano accompaniment, and work as an assistant conductor.[4]

@Teja Phani No. It's the piece from TMP called "The Enterprise". It's the part where Kirk and Scotty come up on her from the front and the camera angle switches to show the Enterprise in her glory.
@@RIDDICK0911 Jerry Goldsmith = Star Trek. My favourite is the TNG theme, though, followed by DS9’ and then Voyagers theme. Those three are Trek music as its best, IMO.
Jerry Goldsmith to me is THE Star Trek Composer and my favourite Film Composer. Yeah it's fast played, but not Voyager only, it's a faster Interpretation at all, which is totally ok.
One day in the future, when we are out there exploring the different quadrants of our galaxy, I will go into the holodeck, and say, "Computer, run simulation 'STAR TREK IN CONCERT - in VIENNA 2013 ORIGINAL HD!' ", then sit back and enjoy being part of this audience here.
Yes, but there are also other pretty piece of music. First Contact is a very pretty theme, so is Jerry Goldsmit's "Ilia's Theme", the overture to Star Trek: The Motion Picture. So much beautiful music.
Voyager had a big theme for a space odyssey trip but First Contact's theme gives you that suspense and sweep you off your feet, / goosebumps sensation.
I ve watched the Video the first time and I just cryed cause I was so touched as lifelong trekkie. live long and prosper. thanks to the orchestra for such a masterpiece
I have always thought easily one of the best parts of the JJ verse was the music, but I never realized just how perfectly it fit until I just heard it within all the other Trek scores
0:55 Voyager makes me think of the possibilities that could rise for our Future and is all around a beautiful ship with a beautiful theme. Like Princess Leia Rip Carrie Fisher, Leonard Nemoy. And many other TOS members.
One thing i find extremely impactful about this video is that even with such an otherworldly series such as star trek, its music and themes are felt by so many people around the world that its music can be and is recognized to be played in the home of some of the most important music in human history: Vienna Austria.
Yes! Started watching Star Trek when I was 8. I'm 65 now and am still very much in love with it, especially classic Star Trek. Childhood memories. I've seen all the movies and the series as they each came along. Thank you for doing such honor to such beautiful score in each of its variations. Beautiful......
It's sad Gene Roddenberry, Jerry Goldsmith, and Alexander Courage, are not around to see this, their creations being played in Vienna, the classical music capital of the world for centuries.
"Message from Starfleet, Captain--we're to return to spacedock immediately....to be decommissioned." "..if I were human, I believe my response would be 'Go to hell'. If I were human."
***** Yes we do. I watched the SSO a few years ago do a whole concert just on John Williams music in the Sydney Opera House, it was brilliant. They also had a 'movie' concert perfomance which included Star Trek theme on a different concert.
god that was GREAT... man.. I would have been crying if I was there.. I was teary just watching it on the pute.. plenty of chills in my body too. .man.. such fine musicians xx love them all xx
Felices fiestas.....

It's amazing how music can bring forth so many emotions! This is wonderful! It made me smile and cry! Well done, RSO Vienna! I wish I had this song so I could listen to it over and over!
The Voyager Theme always gives me the geek chills. My favorite.
It's a lovely theme, but the show didn't do it justice. Easily the worst of the 5 pre-CBS live-action series.
I like Next Generation More 😂
Lithrian We are gonna have to agree to disagree, it’s one of my favourites in the franchise.
Yoyager seems to get crapped on a lot. For me, it was one of my favorites next to TNG and I loved it.
Tire Tracks Each one was great in its own way. Good and bad could be found and said about all Star Trek series. We all have our own likes and dislikes.
Star Trek always gave me a hope for our future.
that show innovated and inspired a lot of young minds back then... Look at our technology now....that show literally gave us touch screen technology and the idea of the bluetooth earpiece........
So true. I'm sure that history will show Gene Roddenberry to have been a man born before his time.
maybe he's a Vulcan 0_0 sent back by the Vulcan High Command :P to alter our history and technology
That would be weird.
Do you even Star Trek ?
That Voyager theme was POWERFUL. I loved it. Outstanding job!
Thank you. We put a lot of hard work into it. Mostly me but a few other people helped I guess.
Whoever wrote the voyager theme is genius, give me goosebumps.
Jerry Goldsmith wrote the Star Trek Voyager theme.

ive never been a trekkie, but the music is wonderful. I love the voyagers intro. Magnificent

My word. Not ashamed to say there were tears of joy watching that.

Jerry Goldsmith knew how to write a great melodic line with accompaniment that wasn't too busy.
