  • London's Kensington Olympia station on the West London Line is a good place to spend summer days watching trains . Fred caught on camera the "Haggis Belle", Class 73 E6003 "Sir Herbert Walker" with a special, Eurostar, the VSOE, New "Networkers" being delivered, and lots more.

      @Nick Lindsey may have an excellent service, but not as much variety as shown here

    I used to love trainspotting at Kensington Olympia around this time and occasionally I would bump into Fred recording these videos. Good to see some original traction and forgotten BR liveries of the era all these years later.

      I know Fred very well - he is a delightful chap - very knowledgeable but always respectful to others - he must be 93 now !

    Fascinating to observe the period of the 1990's. Still recognisable despite the changes and the liveries, so many loco hauled services compared with these days.

    The diesel multiple units introduced a shuttle that linked Willesden junction and Clapham junction that was absorbed into today's underground service and southern link east Croydon to Milton Keynes

    What a charming surprise to see Slade Green's ol' 2EPB learner :) Think it was rotated out to Selhurst at some point.

    I wonder why the ED ran round on diesel power? Lovely memories all the same!

    looking at this now is very weird because now there are houses where the car parks used to be and its just awkward knowing that there was a platform just right next to me since i live in the houses :)

    I used to play on the platform in the late 60s early 70s as lived in Sinclair road next to station there was never any staff about so i used to ride around the trolly carts and remember the 4 tracks with the motorail buildings and platform

    Years ago, on the north side, there was a platform and car loading dock for the sleeper services.....

    Typical thinking of the period to take out that fourth track and put the short platform over it.

    When did thumper DEMUs start running on the West London Line?

    • @class37100
      @class37100 Před 8 lety +2

      +MrGriser It was not a thumper, it was an observation set converted from a 2EPB. The 115/117s in the video were used on the Clapham Junc-Kensington Olympia and Willesden Junction services, soon after this was filmed 313s took that over.

    Why was the Eurostar going through Kensington??

    • @EddersGTI
      @EddersGTI Před 10 lety +2

      Eurostar sets used to be maintained at North Pole Depot, opposite Old Oak Common depot.

      Because the Depot was at North Pole - these were all ecs. moves
