As a student volunteer, i had the honor to participate all the process of Beijing 2008 Olympic. I was there for the opening ceremony, and my classmates and I were so moved that we cried together. I was in charge of traffic control at the basketball arena throughout the basketball game and got to meet all the big international players in person. Looking back on it all now, I am so blessed.

I would just like to say, at 2:32 there is an extra block on the left that wasn’t supposed to rise raised up in an accident. And there is a beautiful story behind it. There are hundreds of thousands of movements that is unique for each block out of like a few hundred blocks. And the person controlling that block had the block broken. A screw came loose and in an interview after, he said he used his pinky to replace the screw and it bled through the rest of the performance. He claimed he did it for the country and he continued on for the rest couple thousand movements. Although a mistake, a mistake that will be hovered.
And a few more notes to tell everyone: the people controlling the blocks are *SOLDIERS*. Yes, you read that right. They are the only people who have the courage to perform in font of the entire world. Also, these soldiers were wearing adult diapers since they were kept under the stage 3 HOURS before the start of the opening ceremony and lasted another 2 hours under the stage while the performance was happening. They were wearing headphones to keep on track with their movements and with half a year practicing with headphones, a lot of them got problems with their ears. Thank you to Yimou Zhang 张艺谋 for arranging the show and to everyone who participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics❤🇨🇳

@@dragondescendant1 Beijing literally means "North capital", And Beiping(where the word Peiking original from) literally means "pacified the North". They we're both used in the past, When Beijing is not capital, it called Beiping, When it is capital it called Beijing. The Peiking translation came to exist During dearly 1900s, which Nanjing (literally means "South capital') was capital, that's why it called Beiping that time. However during The qing dynasty, which before ROC, it was used a capital, then it called Beijing. Both Beiping and Nanjing are mispronounced By foreigner as "Peiking" and "Nanking" and wrote in their geography books.
So Beijing is a name according to the function of the city. Because it is using as state capital, it should called Beijing not Beiping, and let's through the mispronounced work "peiking" out of the window.

Granted this is impressive, but consider this. Where in the U.S. would you have found 810 people to endlessly rehearse and then participate in it? How many would have been to and on time every rehearsal? Stayed to the end every time? Been able to take off from work months on end? Then how many "understudies" would you have to have to cover 810 people. Same with the drummers. Likely many performers were common to many or the different shows but that only increases the need for strict control of the performers and the government subsidizing them and their families in the run up to and during the Olympics. Such a thing is only possible in a totalitarian socialist or communist nation. I feel safe in speculating no one refused to participate when offered the "honor" or asked to drop out once included.
