    The one thing that no-one seems to notice is that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is upstream of the dam, and depends upon the dam for cooling. Without expert knowledge of the plants systems, this could lead to a nuclear melt-down and irradiate the entire area. Not good news for Ukraine.

      More likely it would just lead to having to shut it all down and cut off even more electricity to Ukraine .... They have reserve cooling for now but once they can no longer draw new water they'll be forced to begin the process of shutting it all down and dropping the rods into cooling pools after fission has stopped. The interviewers do not have a set questions that they plough through no matter what the response. People are listening while they do other things, and there’s time for conversation and reflection. You heard her pick up on his remarks and ask him more on that. Did you never notice this almost never happens on news shows or in TV interviews?

    The Crimean water canal is fed from the Kakhovka Reservoir, which has just been breached. A number of possibilities arise.
    1) Since Ukraine's President Zelensky has just called an emergency meeting, the calling of that meeting, in itself, may be a sign that Ukraine was not responsible. Had they been, any planning and preparation for the breaching of the Kakhovka Dam would already have been completed and all the machinations would be in play. There would also need to have been some strategic purpose to the breaching of the dam.
    2) There is the possibility that the Russians breached the dam in preparation for an imminent departure from Crimea. The dam or reservoir provides water to the Crimean peninsula via the North Crimean Canal fed from just upstream of the Kakhovka Reservoir. Consequently, the Russians would otherwise seem to be causing themselves issues with regard to water supply in Crimea, if they intended remaining on the peninsula.
    The breaching of the dam would provide time for clearing of Russian residents, administrative and military personnel from the peninsula. The waterlogged ground would slow any following Ukrainian military forces, and impede their progress. Since there are few remaining Russian troops on the northern side of the Dneiper River, few would be disadvantaged by the breaching of the dam {if the Russians would have been concerned about them anyway.}
    I cannot think of any other reasons for the breaching of the Kakhovka Reservoir, though there may obviously be others.

    fact is that that the right bank of the river is MUCH higher that the left bank (which is occupied by the Russians). So, maybe it is good from a tactical perspective. Strategically however it is really a complete disaster . . . that power plant will be effected and be put under strain even more to possibly/eventually melt down because of the lack of cooling water. So my guess is, because of the way this has been planned - and I don't know the exact strategic significance nor the implications for the power plant - that this one might be done by the Russians to divert the attention. If they did this they will be shooting themselves in the foot, big time (also because the water supply to Crimea will be halted). If this is somehow done by the Ukrainians (which is a possibility) my guess is that they considered to do this after obtaining the best possible (western) intelligence and having a real long term plan for the entire region.
