사자특공대 백수지왕는 우리나라에 전해지는 사자춤의 특징과 의미를 담아, 협력과 상생의 힘은 어떠한 역경도 이겨낼 수 있다는 주제를 전달합니다. 어려움에 빠진 한국을 배경으로 우리나라 전역의 사자들이 한 데 모여 어려움을 극복한다는 이야기로 창작하였습니다.
여러 지역 중요무형문화재의 각양각색의 전통사자춤(북청, 봉산, 창작사자 등)이 등장하여 시각적으로 풍부한 볼거리를 제공하며, 특히 각 지방 사자춤이 가진 유희적인 측면의 화려한 연행과 벽사진경(辟邪進慶)의 신앙적 의미를 강조하며 나쁜 액을 막고 관객들에게 복을 불러오고자 하는 마음을 담았습니다.
남산호랑이, 북청사자, 봉산사자 등 다양한 사자캐릭터들을 통해 힘을 합쳐 지구를 지켜 낸다는 교훈적인 이야기를 구성하였고, 교과서에 등장하는 중요무형문화재의 전통사자춤과 인물탈이 등장, 여러 지방의 사자를 직접 만져보고 가까이서 경험할 수 있는 특별함이 있습니다.
