Dr. Joe DeMarco, chiropractor and owner of OcraMed Health, demonstrates one of the best exercises to prevent, or put an end to, pinched nerves in your neck.
A great deal of pinched nerves in the neck region is the result of poor posture. The 12 pound head, leaning forward all day, placed a tremendous amount of pressure on the cervical vertebrae, cervical disc and cervical nerves. This can cause not only neck pain, but symptoms into your arms and hands.
How can we fix this? You need to strengthen the muscles in the posterior area of your neck to keep your head from leaning forward. In today's video, I demonstrate an awesome exercise to do just that!
Give the exercise a try and let me know what you think in the comment section down below. Good luck and stay healthy!

Hi, I’m dealing with one for the first time. Do u experience weakness in ur arm to the point where u lack power vs ur other arm? What treatment method have worked for u? Thnx! 🙏🏽
I now put my pc on a high table at chest height...I must stand to type. Makes a world of difference. Stand tall when typing!
Excellent idea!!
and looking slighting upward
Thank you so much doctor 😇 🙏🏻 your advice really helped me. I literally felt nerves pulling back to normal while doing exercise. 😮😮
Happy to help!!
Thank you very much for sharing this video. Methods suggested are simple yet very effective. It's not only at the physical level but I also feel calmer after trying these techniques.
Happy to help my friend!!
This do work, it helped me ease my numbness at left thumb and front shoulder....3 weeks pain and no quality rest is pressuring 😢
Hope you feel better. Good luck!
I got rid of my forward head posture along with the pinched nerve in my neck which was causing numbness in my right arm by using a cervical Dennerol. I've started with the medium size device but I had to graduate to the large one
Thanks for your input!
How’ did you use it for your best results? Thank U
GReat idea. I was taught years ago to do neck retractions from my physical therapist which help some. Building the neck muscles sounds like a great idea. Most chiropractors that I've been to over the decades just try to crack my neck. I have a fused neck vertebrae so neck adjustments are painful. I use a standing desk for my home office which helps in many ways. My physical therapist has me doing lunges to relax my traps. Sounds odd but helps. I've had multiple head injury accidents starting when I was 5, including a collision with a tractor trailer.
Good luck to you!!
Thank you doctor i felt the muscles good working and i have less shoulder pain 🙂
Great to hear!
When he said that 12 lb head, I was like yep. This guy gets it lol I'ma try this
It also really helps to stretch the front of the neck. Those muscles have become short and tight from holding the head down like that for so long.
I learned this from another person like yourself on CZcams and it helped me a lot ❤
Exactly! Here is a video I just did on that topic: Posture Correction Exercises and Myofascial Release

@@OcraMedHealth Oh, sweet! Thank you!

Ive felt this help at times but im also afraid because im hypermobile
Discuss with your doctor/therapist about perhaps trying it with very light resistance. Good luck!
Thank you so much may god bless you

What do you prefer to eat for protein? Do you get enough amino acids? like proline, lycine, glycine, etc?
You can take in all the required nutrition (i.e. protein) with a vegan diet. Beans, lentils, vegetable based protein powders, etc.
Kindly suggest any exercise for neck burning and tightness?
Have other videos on neck exercises on channel. Hope they help!
Thanks Doc. for the wonderful exercise.
What is your opinion about placing a plate on the head therefore working against gravity to work those neck muscles?
For the same exercise? The exercise I use in the video provides the resistance.
Good video
Help. I've been going to my chiropractor for a week after pinching the nerve in my neck. How much longer will their be pain
Hard to say. Glad you are getting treatment. I also have another video on the topic which is a full length video. You might want to check that out. Good luck!!
Can vagus nerve damage cause gerd
Wow I'm going to ask my doctor this cuz I wonder if this is me right now. I'm having problems with my digestive system and a pinched nerve in my neck
Nerve damage in the neck can cause either gerd or gerd type symptoms due to low stomach acid instead of too much stomach acid.
You rock Doc. Random question. Have had l5/s1 microdiscectomy. Now am experiencing neck pain in C8. I’m curious if there’s like a specific degenerative disease of the base discs in someone’s back?, like why would strictly the lowest discs in each spinal level give me issues?
It's just a mechanical thing most of the time. More stress goes on the L5/S1 disc. In the cervical spine, the most common disc affected are C5 and C6. Good luck!
Dear Dr. Joe, can I do this exercise two or three times per day?
I have cervical herniated disc and compression on the nerve.
This exercise helps me a lot!
I am looking forward to your answer.
Best wishes, Igor
Three sets once per day should be enough.
@@OcraMedHealth Dear Dr. Joe, thank you for your quick reply!
@@igorbozic9682brother how are you now
Maybe you have a video or at least idea, that could help me fix my ear(s) getting plugged during any kind of strenuous exercise?
Not sure if that is something I could help you out with. I would have it checked out by someone in your area. Good luck!!
Do you have exercise for pinched nerve in the spine
Other than the one in this video?
Awesome thank you

Can you show me how to fix pinched nerves in my lower back get numbness down both legs right too my feet doctor wants to operate I'm not keen because I've heard it can go bad?

It can sometimes.
Hello sir, when I take my head a little back my right arm starts tingling and numbness until my right thumb… will this exercise help? Please advice
I would have that injury evaluated first. Good luck!
@@OcraMedHealthsir, I got it evaluated and was told its a issue with C4-C5-C6
Should I buy rubber bands to do this exercise because of the elasticity?
Those exercise bands are great to use!

If the pain is causing numbness and weakness in hand so Is it necessary to take epidural injections to treat pinched nerve in neck?
There are other types of treatments for pinched nerves. Discuss with your doctor.
I had this done for my c5-6 herniated disc. It lasted maybe a week but maybe helped a bit in long run. Give it a try it doesnt hurt too bad i was able to drive home after having it done.
well all I did was yawn and boom ... here I am. I'm on day 2. no numbness, tingling, just razor sharp jolts of pain. dull aching pain in the background of all that
I just posted a full length video on this topic yesterday. Check it out!
Is this good for neck arthritis and disc😊 problem
Best thing for arthritis is the keep the joints moving and the blood flowing. Activity and exercise is the best medicine.
@@OcraMedHealth what about degenerating neck and disease
Why do I feel like this guy's dealt with lots of broken necks?
😂
Sir i have a pinched nerve at lower back due to weightligting. Hard to walk or even stand what can i do?
Cobra pose. Low to ground. Other yoga. Less weight lifting until you get a trainer who can show you better position, or give up certain movements that contribute to your problem.
Related to mac demarco?
No relation
Darn
Do you recommend any rotational neck exercises? My alar ligament is weak.
ysz
Thanks bro
Welcome!
Ate you pulling forward with the band?
He extends his arms lengthening the rubber band and then draws his head back putting the posterior cervical muscles under pressure. His arms don’t change position but at the start of the movement he put the rubberstrap under a stretch.
You can use a towel or you can use a band or if you got your green belt hanging around use that 😂
That didn’t have anything to do with pinched nerves.
I did this when I woke up and I felt terrible pain, and couldn't move my head for a while. I also felt that has affected my back. Probably a pinched nerve. In short don't do this all alone at home..
I work a sewing machine and can’t do anything about it. So I’m fukt I guess.
Will pinch nerve also make dizziness short of breathness?
Upper cervical misalignments can result in dizziness. With that being said, if you are having dizziness and shortness of breath, I would get in to your doctor for evaluation.
@@OcraMedHealthI have done all blood test reports are normal and ecg Eco TMT all normal. But still from 28 days I am felling dizziness alternative days left chest pain and radiating to left hand light Numbness and swet in hands and legs later Diarrhoea. I assume you mean we do it when we DONT have a pinched nerve currently? Lol
You can perform the motion (chin tuck) with no resistance as part of rehab for most neck problems.
