  • Valkyrie is a 2008 historical thriller film set in Nazi Germany during World War II. The film depicts the 20 July plot in 1944 by German army officers to assassinate Adolf Hitler and to use the Operation Valkyrie national emergency plan to take control of the country. Valkyrie was directed by Bryan Singer for the American studio United Artists, and the film stars Tom Cruise as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, one of the key plotters. The cast included Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Eddie Izzard, Terence Stamp, and Tom Wilkinson.

      Per Wikipedia:
      "On 7 April 1943, Stauffenberg was involved in driving from one unit to another, directing their movement.[30] Near Mezzouna, his vehicle was part of a column strafed by Kittyhawk (P-40) fighter bombers of the Desert Air Force - most likely from No. 3 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force [31] - and he received multiple severe wounds."

      I had thought originally that those did look like P-40s.......

      @@illerac84 The RAF used many P-40's in North Africa, they were great there. Its poor performance on high altitudes was not a problem here. After North Africa it was getting replaced by the P-51 but I do believe the P-40 is very underrated and deserve more praise than it gets nowadays (no I'm not American however my country did use P-40's after the war)
