At this point Jan has become the Nuzlocke Dad. He sits here and goes over your mitakes, uses them as teachable moments, and offers praise and support throughout.
True, with very glaring exceptions (cough Onix Vs Jynx cough) he's actually offering solid advice, though acknowledges what the nuzlocke would prefer to do as well.
31:37 Larvesta has a very small chance of being encountered in a small cave in Lush Jungle that you can only access after getting the Machamp Push ability.
Specifically, it's a 1% spawn, with 1% chance to SOS call Volcarona, too.

The point you make at 25:38 is something I've wanted and always have been jealous of the anime for because Ash ALMOST ALWAYS would just pull out his pokedex and eval it before combat all the time.
I think there is some intrigue to it though. Catching a pokemon or fighting it and then knowing its type. Alternatively you could make the pokedex work like an Item. Spending a turn and then knowing its Typing, showing weak and strong types against it.
@@gosucab944I like that. It doesn’t feel like it’s making the game easier by just giving out info. The give and take system feels much more rewarding
and still use the electric move on the ground type and act shocked.
@@gosucab944 people will probably rather just google the info up then waste a turn on what could be a critical fight
The bit about new players not knowing pokemon types is so true... I regularly babysit my neighbour's kid & she got a switch for her birthday, so I lent her my copy of Let's go Eevee. When she got to Brock's gym, she called me in confusion because the gym requires you to have a grass type in your team & she was sure her [bug type] pokemon was a grass type
I think they should let you open the Pokédex during a fight like they do in the show. This would give people the ability to learn the types of new Pokémon during the fight.
True, but in before someone charges in screeching about how that would make the game "too easy" or something.
idk I feel like the games have already done a lot to make it easy to learn typing. not only can you read the pokedex after the fight, you don't even have to because the game automatically shows the effectiveness of moves on Pokémon you've seen before

I had a friend who hasn't watched either and only did it a couple weeks ago
I'm not terribly surprised. Jan is German and it's a movie that has shades of American military propaganda. I am aware that is the point but a casual glance doesn't tell you it's satire.
31:37
There is an area in the Lush Jungle with a big rock that you have to get Machamp to push using the ride pager. I think in the area behind it, you can find a volcarona. Nobody remembers to go back for it though.
TBF in most runs you've already got an encounter from Lush Jungle hours ago, so there's no reason to go back.

Tanjiro vs Incineroar was probably the sickest sequence in the whole run, and with all the sinnoh easter eggs i look forward to the inevitable next run
I loved the addition of the move effectiveness being shown! I think the reason they don't show Pokémon types with new encounters is they try to make each design with type clarity in mind, and part of the fun is seeing a new Pokémon and figuring out what type(s) it is
Plus getting the type revealed as a surprise when/if you catch the new Pokémon you've never seen before.
When I encountered a Maschiff for the first time in Scarlet, I thought it was a Fighting type because it's crimson (like the Fighting type color) and looked like a fighter dog of some sort, so I was surprised when the Pokédex revealed it to be Dark.
Same thing with Glimmet, when I randomly found one in the small northwestern cave/crag part of East Province Area Three, I thought it was like a Psychic/Grass type or something like that, I definitely did not expect Rock/Poison when I got it and the Pokédex revealed it to me.
And when fighting Slither Wing for the first time, I totally thought it was Bug/Dragon because of the dragon-like tail it has, especially since I figured out it was weak to Fairy, and so I was kind of disappointed it turned out to be Bug/Fighting.
It also makes blind runthroughs more interesting when you don't know what types the new Pokemon are.
That battle animation at the end was fucking incredible, holy shit
The “anime shit” is from the movie Starship Troopers. I’m wondering if that little “glitch” in the credits was a ref to Jaidens run
Just in case anyone is wondering the bug at 30:26 is from Starship Troopers, a sci-fi book/movie/game series.
Really like your take on the type chart, cause it's absolutely true. My brother first started playing Sun and had a way easier time playing than X (which he played after). While playing X, he'd always come to me, asking me what was super effective. I ended up drawing him a type chart, but that became pretty tedious to use. By playing the newer games, where it tells you whats effective, he now has a better grasp on type match ups in general.
People often forget that pokemon keeps getting new players. And that not all players have a good grasp on all the concepts it introduces. Hell, I have been playing for years and still dont have a full grasp on the competitive scene of pokemon. I also just learned 2 mechanics from XY i never knew existed? And also still mix up some stuff with type effectiveness.
Pokemon being accessible to new players is a good thing. What we really need is a difficulty setting, so both old and new players (and casual players) can have a fun but challenging experience.
Fr tho. i've been playing for years upon years and still get confused on all the weird resistances.
@@coyolord8031 Weird resistances my beloathed.
I still remember my first Ultra Sun playthrough. I didn't think anything of Ultra Necrozma because I lead with a Zoroark and the AI only saw a kill with a Psychic move.
Kinda glad I dodged that bullet, lmao
Making a game more accessible for new players is NOT A BAD THING! We WANT more people playing.
I love how jan basically became the Gordon Ramsey of pokemon nuzlockes in the community.
I got a silent ad right after the fake outro and I literally thought (because i was listening and not watching) that it actually was a real end to the video xD
Holy geez the animation in this is actually insane! Especially the champion fight! 🔥🔥🔥
I've honestly never nuzlocked Gen 7 BECAUSE of how brutal the Totem Pokemon are. It feels like you'll almost always lose a pokemon fighting them.
I remember trying to do an all dark types Nuzlocke on US. It was going fantastic until the totem Kommo-o annihilated my entire team.
I really enjoy the dynamic you appear to have with the rest of the community. it's just nice to be reminded that it's all in fun and we all enjoy the games in different ways and that doesn't have to be incompatible with everyone else
I agree with all your points about the accessibility changes they've made I just kinda wish they made them optional. I tend to feel more rewarded when I know the information that gets me through a battle and it's not just right there in front of me. Maybe a difficulty slider or something would be good.
Or setting toggles like when you could switch between battle styles. That’d be nice
Accessability is a net positive
@ariannadravis3934 I fully agree with you. I'm just trying to think of a solution that's inclusive to everyone and doesn't alienate existing fans that's all.
Honestly since I am a Pokémon noob who tunnel visions on only one of the super effective types against the enemy, it was helpful !
But I agree on the fact that it should be optional to make it more challenging
Jan once again forgot about his sponsorship and put out a video on the last day of the month😂
This is the consistent upload schedule that he mentioned
It was already July in Germany when he put up that video.
I also think Alpharad has hada good contribution to normalizing people playing nuzlockes with their own rules becauseof how casually he plays them. sometimes he will just be like "Fuck it" and do whatever he feels like for a good narrative, good content, and just all around good fun.
For the volcarona the hint you noticed was the things around it's pre evolution larvesta's head.
My friend and I did a soul link on USUM and I encountered a Klefki in the abandoned mart, which I used to 1v1 ultra necrozma. Foul Play, Thunder Wave and Screens with leftovers. Still one of the coolest things I've done in Pokémon. It was funny because he was really struggling with the battle and I just used Klefki to unlock victory
Jan is slowly transforming into a Nuzlocker Shaggy Rogers and I’m so here for it
24:46 This was one of the reasons I loved B&W back in the day. I had no idea what anything was and it was really fun trying to figure out what type the different Pokémon were just by experimenting. That's one of the big gripes that I have with the newer games, they just straight up shove in your face which moves are stong against a certain type and it takes all the experimentation out of it.
The thing at the end with the insinarour was a reference to the beginning where he lost to the teachers litten
Watching Jan and his channel grow over the years has been really fun.
Jan hearing a woman in a position of power and instantly getting flustered is hilarious
@16:48 I think that's a reference to Badman with "Mr. Fishy no"
close enough
this vid is packed with references and it's 1000% a reference to the Batman "Dr. Fishyyy, nooooo!" scene, quick youtube search if whoever is reading this isn't familiar
Regarding showing types to players for pokemon : Cassette beasts has a really great system of showing you in battle XXX type, and a key item in your bag you can look up mid battle. That way you can see whats weak aganist what on top of it all. Just a nice add on so I can look up in advance what I want to switch to.
Dude, don’t tell me you actually missed Giratina giving him his second chance. The editor just messed up on that part, right?
Rewatching this, it seemed that at this point in time, he didn’t care to actually finish the video cause there wasn’t anything to comment on.

Jan getting his monthly upload out of the way on day 1
I wonder if the Totem Araquanid he fought was shiny or if he colored that way in the video to differentiate Totem vs Normal...because the Totem art he used in the video was the shiny coloration of it.
I'm very happy to see that your regular upload schedule from 2 videos per months both in the last three days haven't changed. I love to see you on my timeline
So about 24:30 the thing I love is that the WAY you get the super effective information to pop up IS BY encountering or catching one of them in the first place! So I really love the fact that it's not "the first time you see it, you get all the info" but it's more along the lines of "now that you've studied it, you know how to beat it!"
26:01 im pretty sure you can (in Scarlet and Violet, at least) check that in the same place where you can check the boosts. Sure, its a teensy bit obscure and i agree that it'd be better to have it on the UI, but its still accesible.
he really only did 2 vids cuz he needed to fulfill his sponsors lmao
kudos to u my guy
12:29 I love the madoka magika reference here.
"Okay, this is definitely some anime shit that I don't know about"
Ah yes - Starship Troopers, my favorite anime. 😂
You brought up a fantastic point with the whole thing about accessibility. That's why I like ROM hacks like Radical Red. It goes out of its way to show you the types of Pokemon. I wish GameFreak would implement that into the games eventually.
Personally, I just like to guess the types of pokemon I haven't seen, since most of the time, their design reflects the type they are. Like take for example, Heliolisk. Its yellow, so electric. Houndoom is black, and hell, so dark fire. Most newer pokemon games are literally gonna reward you for clicking absorb on a swampert, and there's more strategy to pokemon than hitting the super effective move. I see why he says that, but I respectfully disagree.
Yeah a lot of rpgs have at least another screen where it tells you either the enemy type or its weaknesses if it's not on the main screen.
@imtheonewhoaskedlol if the design reflects what they are most of the time, then why would it be such a big deal to just reveal the type?
@@nickchivers9029 Because discovery is one of the most important things in not just Pokemon specifically (though it especially is, hence why they make new Pokemon every gen), but in game design as a whole, and letting a new player correctly infer what type a new Pokemon is the single biggest avenue for that
@AREAlhero I'd have to disagree there, on the pokemon games being mainly about discovery at least, though I'm not sure it even applies to video games as a whole.
If it were the case that game freak designed their new game with discovery in mind, then why do they reveal almost all the pokedex ahead of time, including every pokemons type? I know there are certain cases where they keep things hidden, but that certainly isn't the norm if you go by how they promote every new game. Pokemon games are not about discovery. They are about acquisition. Come get all the cool new pokemon.
And frankly, even if it were the case that discovery is what pokemon games are about, which they aren't, trying to figure out a pokemons type is not the single biggest avenue for that. I would argue that finding out where to acquire each pokemon and how they evolve are far more compelling avenues for achieving a sense of discovery.
Honestly even not nuzlocking the early game can be difficult if you're not properly prepared. Some of those totem battles can honestly just out damage things like potion spam
at least the last time I checked, the super effective move indicator only occurs when the opposing pokemon is in the pokedex. typing is meant to be a mystery initially.
Jan u got so much better at the commentary type of content, keep the grind going and much love my dude!!!
Damn, BARELY making the end of the month sponsor deadline, but we respect the grind
If I ever decide to finish my ultra moon nuzlocke I will implement light that burns the sky clause because figuring out a difficult fight is fun but the thing with massive special attack using a very high base power move just means you lose a mon under alot of conditions isn't very fun
@16:50

i think not always seeing the types also adds some positives, like its something to explore and to get rewarded for it. feels good to master
The type effectiveness only shows up if you encoutered the Pokemon before, so you still habe to figure out whats effective on the first encounter.
O your gonna love this myself and 12 others are doing a monotype race Locke in X and Y😅
This also being my 1st time doing a "true" nuzlocke kinda of I'm going through using only fighting types 😅
As Rowlet is one of my favorite Pokémon, I completely agree that it’s not the best for early game Gen 7
Never seen a smoother transition to a sponsor
24:45 I got you on this. My niece started playing Pokemon at seven with Sw/Sh and she hand drew a type chart with arrows going everywhere she could use as a cheat sheet. Made no sense to me, but she found it useful!

"... and you're gona like it!"
Thats what im here for!
amazing video!
Seeing jan in any other nuzlocker’s video always reminds me of the “Thanks for unpausing, Hassan”
I remember when USUM came out and I decided to go in for a blind nuzlocke. Wiped at Ilima, decided I wasn't going through the cutscenes again so I "restarted" from Ilima with that gift Rockruff you got at the start of the game as my "starter" and no encounters. Since I picked Rowlet (cause I love my owl and was not expecting that much difficulty) the rocky doggo was fine.
Barely scraped by for literally the entire game, toxic cheesed Ultra necrozma sacrificing a bunch of level 5 useless guys (the only thing I didn't go blind into because I heard a super tough fight was coming up so I prepped) and then decided to keep my nuzlocke going all the way through the post-game. I literally lost every single pokemon I owned except for an ultra beast and an Espeon, and Espeon was the only survivor after the Red fight.
Had a lot of fun
Missed this kind of vids, helps me alot

Jan just looks unhinged in this- its pretty great
30:31 the giant black and gold spotted bug with 4 long legs and as many pincers for it's mouth is from 'Starship Troopers'
Honestly learning the type interactions was one of my favourite parts about pokemon
Larvesta is indeed in the ultra games only, that boulder Young dude mentioned earlier on in the grass trial area he said he'd go back to, when you get the power to move it with Machamp, it accesses a cave where you can find Larvesta, granted it has a 1% encounter rate, but that's how he got it.
I'm glad to see what your take is on Ultra Necrozma Jan, I kind have to agree that people should be given a pass on that fight myself especially in mono nuzlockes that aren't dark based, the only person i've seen who said that it should not be allowed is Marriland, and he was rather cold about it.
this just proves that jan has the sense of humor of a fourteen year old boy and i’m kinda here for it
