  • A heartfelt message from Brandon Beauchamp from Melbourne Australia, the founder of Barefoot Comics to readers of Dystinct Magazine. Brandon talks about his struggles growing up with dyslexia, ADHD, anxiety disorder and complex PTSD. He shares how he learnt to adapt and carve a happy world for himself.
Brandon grew up believing he was stupid and dumb and that he couldn't do what everyone else around him was able to do. He belongs to the Gamilaraay indigenous community and grew up in a small town called Blayney in the top end of New South Wales, Australia. Brandon went to a small school in the country town where he failed or got the lowest grades every year. He tells us that school was hard and awful at times and that he was really good at disappearing. He often behaved like a brat and got himself kicked out of class to avoid being asked to do anything academic.
He says "Comic books are different. You don't have to read it the conventional way. They are set up to be just your interpretation of what is in front of you." when explaining how comic books saved him! Read Brandon's story at the Dystinct Magazine:
