  • Hyper Offense has to be my favorite style to play competitive Pokémon in. It also can tend to be the most difficult form to play, but that makes it all the more rewarding when you succeed. If you want to learn the ins and outs of hyper offense, this is the video for you. Once again, I'm super close to 100 subs, and I appreciate all the support!

I feel like you should give some examples of pokemons for certain roles so we can like make our own teams a bit easier

I wish that the tw+protect+heat wave+draco meteor hydreigon sets were more common bc fairy ceruledge literally makes it unplayable. Don't think the meta will develop to making it common enough that it would be worthwhile tho

Personally, I feel like if I'm playing "aggro" I'd prefer 5/1 just because it's more defined if that makes sense. I feel like it's more of the thing I'm trying to do. But what this got me thinking about is this... How do you feel about "speedrunning" ladder (as games are shorter with hyper offense) and then later on switching to more bulky offense / balance (my preferred style of "mid range") after reaching higher ranks?

Couple things to go over so lemme hit these one by one
5/1 HO is significantly more aggro and defined, but if the one support pokemon has a bad matchup, it becomes a lot tougher of a game in general. Definitely still viable, but a lot more demanding on the player. The benefit of 4/2 HO is the ability to choose which support Pokemon is better for the matchup, and against bulkier teams, you have the option to run both support mons and not get shafted by Trick Room.
Speedrunning ladder is kind of a thing, it started back in 2021 with Series 7 I think. The idea is you run a HO team (that you know well) so you can spam multiple games without trying too hard. Then you switch to a more consistent team once you start playing opponents that know what they're doing.
I did this in 2021 Series 11 (1 restricted legendary) with Zacian/Lapras/Whimsicott/Incineroar/Regieleki/Rillaboom. Very simple, very easy team that I could play 4 games simultaneously with. Then switched to my Player's Cup 3 team once I hit about 1500, because it was better suited to methodical play against more skilled opponents
This doesn't mean that HO is bad against better players tho. In the right hands, HO is a very dangerous playstyle. Hyper Offense to me feels easy to pick up and learn, but hard to master

@@zachuvgc8660 Thanks for the detailed answer! I guess you're right that 5/1 has that big drawback. I just kinda saw it as monored vs WhiteWeenie in MTG where monored is almost purely "HaHa burn player counts to 20" and WW tries to be a bit more resilient. This often leads to monoR being better because it's pure aggro, and therefore better at what it's supposed to do and WW being a middle of the pack archetype because it's not quite aggro but not really a midrange either. But from watching you and others maybe that's not as applicable in Pokemon because there are hard counters and such that no amount of "deckbuilding" can get you around.
Thanks again for the answers and brilliant content!
