Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, czcams.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.

Yes, a frog is a frog is a frog. The only concern is if it's made so cheap that it falls apart and tears quickly........and yeah, the water intake can suck. Hooks can be sharpened. One test trip to a lake is so beyond irrelevant. I've used frogs without any leg skirts and bass were still hitting it. The only thing that matters is the movement. I've thrown wacky rigged worms on top cover and pulled it along and they hit that also. They don't see a frog, they see movement.... The frog is basically imitating any little creature scurrying along.... rodent, snake, lizzard... the bass is too stupid to know any difference.

I use those cheap frogs and they have never failed me but I like the hooks on the lunker hunts better

I can't help you with a rod/reel combo but I can help you find a good reel. I look for a quality reel with an aluminum frame that is on a close out deal. I have some very nice reels I got for $50 or less, recently. If you are patient the deals will come along. I can already tell you no cheap reel with a graphite frame will do. I have had big willow leaf spinnerbaits bind up some $100 graphite reels. You know what they will do to a cheap graphite reel.

Have you tried releasing the fish instead of throwing it at the water and have a go at fishing for 2lb fish on 1lb test and an ultralight set-up, you'll have more fun..

It’s logic that the expensive frog going to have better quality and craftsmanship but the purpose of a lure is to catch fish and both did it
One thing I know from experience is that every cheap lure can get hung up more, but honestly like I've caught more fish on cheap lures than expensive. Cheap lures catch big fish too! Don't be fooled by people telling you to buy more expensive stuff. I just use the Booyah and they work just as great!
Long time lurker, first time commenting, love the videos. My wife actually thought she was doing me a solid and bought me a bunch of those 1 dollar frogs for fathers day. I literally have a 4007 full of frogs now. And I honestly cant tell a difference in them and my expensive frogs. I use them all the time and the only down fall of the 1 dollar frogs I have is the amount of time before it takes on water, but a little super glue fixed that right up.

Love the videos man, but I reccommended ppl watching whether using a frog, senko, or trebled lure dont set hook to hard. I've never set any hook & only lost a handful of fish after minutes of fighting. Only takes a little tension to set a hook through skin let alone fishes mouth, the rest is damaging & literally ripping fish apart unnecessarily. Tight lines.
the truth if you don’t set the hook frogging, you will absolutely lose fish. It’s not like a ned rig with a light wire hook. Frogs have 2 really thick hooks pointing towards each other rather than parallel with each other. It requires much more force to penetrate both hooks into the top of a fishes mouth. Everyone who keeps saying, “DoN’t SeT tHe HoOk So HaRd!” clearly knows nothing about frog fishing.

A friend who is big into fishing convinced me to buy these expensive super sharp hooks and I couldn't feel the difference between them and a 5 year old Chinese crank bait hook.

With frogs you’re supposed to set the hook more aggressive because its not like treble hooks when they hit it they’re always hooked

Wasn't your conclusion contrary to the evidence showed on the challenge/experiment? The cheap frog was catching as many bass as the expensive one. And to be honest I was expecting to see more tear on the cheap one by the end of the video, but that wasn't the case. So, do you really think that one strike king will last longer than 10 of the others? Not sure bro. Don't get me wrong, I loved the video but I just think that on your conclusions you were speaking for yourself and not for what the bass showed they liked.
i totally get what you're saying! If I could put it in the perspective for pond fishing, the cheap frog can get it done. If i was to go on a lake/ when I tournament fish I would totally go with the expensive one. But the cheap frog did impress me, thanks for watching man!!
Keep in mine that the bass can't see the top of the frog or much of the sides at all, just the bottom. So the better colors don't matter as much a you'd think.

I like the whole premise of using the cheap gear... it’s the most accessible to most people. Maybe a whole series using Walmart gear and strategies using the cheap stuff. It may get more people started.

Those Ozark Trail lures are cheap but still very effective.i bought a couple poppers that work great.i say if it works then use it.after all,the fish don't care if it's a cheap or expensive lure lol.
It will matter if you hook into a large bass and you straighten out those cheap hooks or the cheap components fail.

I just went back and watched this video. That's so funny to see 5 years later. That Ozark Trail Frog is SOOO bad. I had 2 or 3 and took them all back to WalMart and got a refund. Never even caught a fish on one, but the two I tried were both crooked, filled up with water and sunk. I put them back in their packaging and returned them the next day.

Out of the thousands of bass i've caught since the 70's, I've never seen the need to ski them to the bank then drag them through the grass! What happened to actually RESPECTING the fish we catch?

@@chase740 A hook in the bony part of the mouth is much easier for a fish to recover from than losing its slimy coating. This isn't about pain, it's about survivability of released fish.
